It's refreshing to see someone who fully appreciates the wisdom in Fight Club AND the mind-traps which masquerade as freedom but are simply another sort of mind control and nihilistic self-destruction which is not healthier than the consumerism which originally trapped the narrator. I love to watch the movie, I don't want to live the movie. When I see people modeling their lives on Tyler Durden I wonder if they understood the last part of the movie at all. Your interpretation is the closest to the truth man, it is in fact the truth. The balance is the way. 'Neti-neti' it means neither this nor that. We have to walk Just in the middle, on the razor's edge. Indulgence is easy repression is easy, one has to neither do any one of the two but simply become a witness. indeed consumerism will destroy us all if we let it. Capitalism is the most effective economic system yet created, but making it the only force in life will break you. It is a tool, a system, and an unfeeling machine. As it should be, you are supposed to find your own meaning outside it it and use it to achieve that meaning. Not let it be that meaning. The tragedy of the decline of religion is the rise nihilistic pseudo-philosophies that are attempting to take its place, which are offering no solutions other than more envy, hedonism, and consumerism as the supposed answers.

I think the real meaning behind fight club is finding the balance between two extremities: 1)being trapped in comfort/ consumerism to the point where one loses sense of self/ purpose. 2) being obsessed with change or a certain ideal (ultra masculinity) to where it becomes destructive to the person itself and society.
@kevinxue195210 ай бұрын
The movie is not criticizing lack of masculinity but rather the belief that being like tyler is the only way of living, it's criticizing people who believe the stereotype of masculinity and agression are the only things that really matter and that they are the only way to get away from the misery that is everyday life.

Movie is such an inspiration. That oppressive cubical life. The sick being ignored. People living but not really doing what they love. It is what many of us face in the real world. To drop everything and "just let go" as Tyler says, feels so liberating. Let go of what your boss tells you, let go of what your family tells you, let it all go. And figure out what you want to do. We can all be greater than we can ever imagine. Listen to your voice and start creating, start living, start doing. Then do some more. Because before you die, you don't want to have any regrets. You did everything you ever wanted. You experienced and talked to, saw, created, everything you ever dreamed of.

I have resonated very strongly with this movie’s message since the 90’s. A little over a year ago I built a pretty expensive gaming PC that I saved a long time for. The first thing I did upon getting it built and set up was hang my Tyler Durden poster directly above it with the quote “the things you own end up owning you.” It serves as a constant reminder to simply view it as something that I have for fun and to not let it become part of my identity and view it as a possession. This way if something happens to it like it breaks or gets stolen, I do not mourn over it as an expensive possession, but I can have the self-awareness to simply let go of it as something fun that was once in my life but is now gone. It wasn’t until I found stoicism that I saw the stark similarities which made me like the quote even more. Love the video man. Very nicely done and put together.

We as people live in this social constructs all our lifes, consuming as much as possible, and identifying with forms, concepts, ideas, what we think leads to happiness. With some spiritual practice you start to realize this self deflection. And as well you start feeling it in all kind of art forms (music, lyric, movies, paintings, etc.). The universe is speaking to you, you just need to listen. This is an amazing example for this, when you're aware enough the deeper meaning unfolds right before you eyes. The way I always interpreted the novel is that no matter what you have to be "squeezed" into conformity & then break through to discover the individual. The Mechanic, for example, was clearly operating outside the mandate of Project Mayhem when I car crash happened. Tyler was recreating the "father model" & challenging the space monkeys who were left to become individuals who thought for themselves after their "father" had died. In the novel Tyler planned on killing himself in the explosions at the end of the book. Just my interpretation

Excellent vid! One must understand in this capitalisitc society ur programmed to seek the solution (happiness) on the outside... but the mindfuck is the solution lies on the inside. Everything is energy and energy moves, thats why getting stuck is no good. Its important u set urself goals and work on the inside to higher ur frequency. The frequency of human consciousness is getting up and therefore a lower frequency such as fear shame guilt anger jealousy is of no importance. So by facing ur anxieties (ie fighting another man) u amongst others will improve ur frequency level towards courageous instead of fear.... everything is yinyang in life, thats why i like to do boxing AND yoga. At the end of the day u cant be bothered abt the outside world, who judges u, u remain relaxed when someone is aggressive towards u in traffic, u dont have an ego anymore coz u know there is more than body and mind etc. Through ie meditation u will learn to train the mind who is controlling u with feelings of guilt jealousy greed (i want to buy that watch too or i want to have his girlfriend) and eventually u will raise ur level towards joy happiness and love. Nicola Tesla will tell u: if u want to know the secrets of the universe think in terms of vibrations, frequencies and energy.

U got 7 chakra's, energywheels, in ur body. U prob havent felt these before. So it will be hard for me to convince u coz ur mind (out of survival mechanism, fear etc) will tell u the situation needs to remain as it is. Pls remember ur mind doesnt like change and he wants to eat (for some by regularly having conflicts coz they are addicted to the energy peaks they get by doing so). Same goes for the ego feeling sorry for himself, a low self esteem etc. These are beliefs and habits stored in ur subconsciousness so since the solution lies on the inside instead of the outside, one needs to start working on that. Eventually u will understand and trust me Nicola Tesla wasnt the only one who knew this.

I don't like my energy. Too much. Too erratic. I used to enjoy it but it's gotten me into so much trouble. Always searching and seeking. Pushing boundaries of accepted ways of being and thinking. Hard to stop it. Impossible maybe. I just want it to stop, but I don't want to die. I don't know how to shut off sometimes. Would meditation help?

Such a powerful movie. Its message seemed more relevant to me as a young adult around the time it came out. It attacks the obsession with consumerism and the alienation of the average 21st century male like few other mainstream films and in such a stylish way.

I also saw the value in how much things men can do when they work together, have a leader, and have a common goal. This is why boys need to gather a healthy group of friends that will help them along life.

probably one of the most difficult things of choosing to live this way is the lack of income as a direct result of being unable to relate to/connect with others. From there, your choices in this life are severely limited. I fully support the premise of living authentically. Just until there are a significant amount of us, it's gonna be hard, or at least it has been for me.

Great take of the movie. This movie actually changed my perception of life. Rarely do you see a movie come along like this one that goes against the grain of the so called societal norms and rejects the norm. Mind blowing movie!

Ive never heard myself described so perfectly. Fight club is like a mental state where you just absolutely destroy a physical activity like running uphill carrying a log and not wearing shoes. I never new what hope was but im quite surprised to hear you say im hopeless
