Self-realization is a process that many people try to rush, especially when we are young. It's one of those things that takes a lifetime and even then we never Master it. First we learn to let go of society's expectations of us, then we become free. Then we realized that freedom also means being part of the society, so we have to once again change our mind. After a while we have changed our thoughts so much that we start to wonder if anything is real. Hanging onto that truth is what matters most, whatever it may be for us

@Aika Papa I can totally relate to your observations. In the past year I renounced all traditional Christian beliefs and have been on a mostly chaotic journey listening to various wise people on You Tube, including this channel. Jordan Peterson was the tipping point for me, but I have spent many hours listening to recordings of Alan Watts, among many others. Like you, I am trying to make personal sense of the approach of Eastern philosophies vs Pyschology.

@@kimkay9365 that has been my journey as well. I think the answer is different for all of us,but I am certain that you will find the answer just be patient with it. I am so glad that I am not the only one experiencing such a phase. It really feels like sometimes I am the only person but thanks to this channel I get to meet like minded people

carpo719 I disagree. Most people have no idea of this till they are in their late 30s and that is still a small percentage. It is impossible to rush. Impossible.

@@theworkethic I think its situational for everyone. I am in early twenties and self realization is something I have always been passionate about but never really followed through up until now and am loving the process each and everyday. Its amazing. That's why I say wisdom is knowledge through experience not age

Tervin Mwangi You are very fortunate to begin your journey at this age. When I was in my 20’s, I was just content with enjoying life. Then, 20+ years of raising children kept me focused on making sure they would turn into “good people”. Now in my 50s, I look back and feel like I missed the point of living and have somehow lost the ability to know myself. I believe the internet is part of our evolving consciousness. I would never have been able to learn all that I have in the past 10 years had it not been for the internet.

When you are self realised you know there are no mistakes only lessons
@miut7995
@miut7995 3 жыл бұрын
My question is.. If we do not accept that we made mistakes, does that mean that we should never apologize? I’m not trying to prove anything but very interested in philosophy. Should we not acknowledge our mistakes as “mistake” and realize that we can learn from our mistakes (negative connotation) thus, it can evolve into a lesson (positive connotation) . It’s just an evolution ?

@@miut7995 a true apology shows humility, lack thereof shows one is too prideful to accept the lesson. This brings shame. As a wise man once said; "Pride is not the opposite of shame, but its source. True humility is the only antidote to shame"

It's taken decades for me to finally realize that I actually learned many of these unhealthy coping skills early on in life. I've definitely found it easier to move away from problems and troubling situations, as well as people, rather than face them. But at least now I know that it's always the apprehension of what could happen that hinders our progress more than the actual event itself.

Often, we go through life and we compare ourselves to the other people... 🧐 When we see people that we think are more achieving than us, are more intelligent than us, wealthier than us, have better relationships than us, more physically attractive than us, and compare ourselves to them - we minimize ourselves and think they have something we don’t we automatically inject some of their values into our lives and confuse those with our own highest values... When we do that, we have a tendency to set a goal that is not ours ❌ And when we set a goal that is not ours, we decrease the probability of achievement... Then when we don’t achieve it, we start to beat ourselves up, and start doubting ourselves, and questioning ourselves and we start having this feeling that I can’t do what I set out to do. You don’t feel that you can walk the talk. So make sure you set goals that are really yours 💯 Because when you live according to your highest values you become inspired and awaken genius 🏆 When you live according to your lower values you require continuous outside motivation and you suppress your genius... Your present purpose or mission for life will reflect your present highest values 💎

It took me a great deal of pain to finally accept the dualities of reality. I thought I needed to follow expectations, conform to fit in, and achieve academically to compensate for the fact I never did anything else in life. Then I realized now at 19, it’ll never be enough for many. Being a good kid and student never stopped my family members from lashing out or using me as a scapegoat. I followed what they thought was best for me because I spent my life trying to have the love of those who’ve hurt me or weren’t here for me anymore. No matter the sticks and stones tossed at me, I never stopped following the path they’ve cultivated for up until now. Now I’ve made the choice to let it all go. Let go of the fact I never grew up high-class with a family who loves me unconditionally, let go of the fact that I’ll never fit in or be liked by many, let go of reputation, religion, validation, childhood truama, loneliness, comfort, the people who’ve hurt me, anguish, anger, hate, sadness, grief- all too place my feet firm and stand tall if I want to function and pursue the life that’s rightfully mine.

You can start by grabbing yourself a nice coffee. Begin to backtrack through your memories, but from the perspective of another. By doing this, your mind is existing outside of the emotions that shackle you to the past. Once you begin to analyze things and accept them for what they are, your mind will begin to adapt to better suit the present day. Only by acknowledging the imperfections of yourself and others - will you ever be able to let go of what is holding you back.

I think what you would benefit most from is to find freedom in separating your self from society for parts at a time so you can come to terms with your true emotions through meditation and or journaling, grab a tent, some canned food and go into the wild when you have a chance, if you can’t go into the wild find your own version of this type of positive isolation. Get away from the people who drive your existence and figure out your own drive for existence.

My nuerosis is relentless procrastination. I simply cannot work on improving my circumstances i.e, learning a skill and applying a proper job. Day in and day out, I squander my time with watching pointless videos or practically any activity that doesn't involve what I need to do that day. It's been the cause for a lot of distress and pain all the way through school and adult life. I genuinely believe in the concept of self-actualization. Just the way this video points out, it will be your greatest struggle and has been mine for my whole life. I'm still working my way out.

I used to beat myself up a lot in my early 20's because of having such high expectation of what I could be but everyday my realistic self was so so far from the idealistic self. Everyday was a failure, I became depressed and one day everything just collapsed. Eventually I had to take time off and started seeing a therapist to repair myself. Since then I've been on a journey of self discovery. I realised how little I knew about my self. It was a dark place that I tried to hide from for most of my life, but that is where the real treasure is, beyond our own darkness. Be kind to yourself everybody. Be your own best friend.

Perfect timing. New to this channel. Subscribed. The loml is the second one. My girl best friend is the first. I’m also the first, though not to her level. Both of them had childhood traumas whereas mine were later in my preteen and later years (loml is 19, I’m 20, and my bsf is 21). This self destructive behavior has taken a massive toll on all of us. Rn it is 3:30 am and I am awake with class tomorrow morning at 10. Why? Because I am neurotic. I have OCD. Anxiety. Depression. My therapist booted me for missing 3 appointments total. Even then, she was $100 a visit, and I could only see her every blue moon due to the wait time. This video helped me a ton. I’ll def be rewatching this a few times so the lessons really get ingrained into me. To watch this only once would be doing me a great disservice. Thank you so much for this. I’ve been slowly turning to alcohol, but I think this just saved me from going too far. Because now I know the goal: self-realization.

To be, or not to be, that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles And by opposing end them. To die-to sleep, no more; And by a sleep to say we end the heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks that flesh is heir to: 'tis a consummation devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep; To sleep, perchance to dream-ay, there's the rub: For in that sleep of death what dreams may come?

Once you've gone through a good deal of discovering unpleasant truths about oneself, a mental state of confidence, fearlessness and calm awaits. You trust yourself that you can reinvent yourself. Nothing can destroy you. Except death, but after that you don't care... Make quality choices and take care of self, not pampering self. Don't do injustice and don't accept injustice. This adds more to stature. Eventually, find your skills and linking and peruse it. Tackle negativity by detachment and ask above first question. Retaliate in proper ways. Conditions are OK to Live when you are in a condition to fight and have self-esteem, which comes from honesty. Self realisation is just that you are true man or true woman.

jezzz this was so real to me and spoke deep to me...unreal. i move away from people and never realised why... Suddenly it made sense ...Self -preservation ,independence truly believing I just wanted to find myself and cultivate my knowledge through solitude.(denial) i have been neurotic while thought was just a mild social anxiety... i am an INFP according to the Briggs and as such an introverted... in numerology I'm an 11 personality and 11 inner self... an Aquarius sun and ascendant in scorpio ... I've being trying all methods FREUD, C J Young read about Buddhism, Hinduism raised as a Christian.... Than Spiritism 'law of attraction divination ,philosophy .. all for self knowledge trying to overcome my inhibitions and childhood... and i still cannot free myself from my demons ..... don't know what else to do really ... but this video has somehow touched something that was missing ... Thank you ever soo much.

The quote by Karen Horney at 8:29 reminds me of Erich Fromm's description of "productive love"; a betweenness that is an expression of generosity and growth.

Try this, it helped me 1.Overcome the Need to be licked. 2. Its impossible for self realisation without self acceptance. 3. Overcome the idea of your ideal self.
