Im so glad i have chosen peace and simplicity for my life. I work as a housekeeper, drive an old car, cook most of our meals at home, have simple and inexpensive hobbies. I dont get my nails done or anything like that...I even cut my own hair! And yet i am somehow seen as less successful when compared to my stressed out peers and siblings who work 50+ hours a week to afford their expensive lifestyles. Such a strange way to live imo.

I have always lived a simple life. I have always been introverted, and cannot relate to the modern, materialistic world. I retired at age 55, and have had 22 years of peace and contentment with my 3 cats. They make me so happy, and they are thankful just to "have the day" and live in the moment. I had to get off of the hamster wheel because I could not compete with the majority of "successful" people in life. When my father died, I witnessed him going into the retort (oven). The same with my brother. Not to be "gruesome" but to be aware of what we face at the end of this short life. We take nothing with us. Be content to be "alive in the moment". @@GluteusMax777 I understand, but I do wish I had known before I had a kid. It doesn't feel like I can do what I want, my time hasn't been my own since the kid was born. I know that indirectly, I did choose to keep the kid (even if I thought I was going to have my husband around to help) and so technically I am doing "what I want." But I don't really want to do this with my time. I would like time to wash my hair or see friends. I have had trouble applying this idea with my reality. If I could do what I wanted, I wouldn't be making three meals a day, I wouldn't be picking up toys off the floor, and I wouldn't be fighting a brat about why he has to brush his teeth, only for him to go to his dad who will tell him he doesn't have to listen to me. My time hasn't been my own for years, because I am the only person who cares about whether my kid is okay or not.

Many years ago i quit my job and became a manual labourer cause if you are paying for my body and expecting my brains for free then that ain't happening. While doing a "course" for work the teacher got me aside and asked, are you a supervisor or manager or something? I said, nah just a labourer. He paused, smiled and said, well everyone has a story don't they? And over the years of labouring I met some very smart people who just wanted out of the BS and did labouring. I'm about to become an over the road truck driver (again). This video helped me to look at it in a different way. The waiting around can be a time to relax. Though it is NEVER a good time when there are no legal places to park a big truck and the police love writing tickets in the northeastern USA. At least I'll always have a place to sleep as long as I drive the truck.

I stay out every other day and sleep in hotels, I'd look at this possibility, if I were you, like an LTL type of company, so you don't have to deal with the lack of parking spaces for trucks, it pays really well also. City bus driving jobs might pay more depending on the city. That's a much more difficult job dealing with crazy people daily. I looked into private bus/tour bus jobs, and they didn't pay much either. The work was also not regular.

No matter how depressed or hungover I was my living space has to be spotless. I live off grid in a bus and it is really clean. I still struggle a lot. I even quit drinking 4 years ago. I had back surgery 3 years ago and have not been right in my head since. I can do what ever I please on my land. So many cool projects that I would have loved doing non stop years back. Now I have to force myself just to eat. I think it has to do with me having no one to share this with. A lot has happened to me since. Things that would break most people. i often think about my friends (in our early 30s) who are constantly striving to obtain houses, nice cars, & ultimately financial freedom, and i see that they are not satisfied with their current situations; sacrificing their time and energy now, to be happy later. i'm not saying that anything is wrong with striving to achieve their goals, but i see myself with an apartment, a cheap car, a girlfriend, a cat, and a simple 9-5 job which pays for those things, and i feel completely relaxed and satisfied with my life as it is. there are of course other things i would like to have, see and experience in life, but my happiness is not dependent on achieving those things. I guess my point is, happiness can only be found here, now, and within; never there, then, and without.

My name is Yoshikage Kira. I'm 33 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Morioh, where all the villas are, and I am not married. I work as an employee for the Kame Yu department stores, and I get home every day by 8 PM at the latest. I don't smoke, but I occasionally drink. I'm in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm milk and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I'm trying to explain that I'm a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn't lose to anyone.

Something I want to share with everyone. I've been working in this particular role at my company for 4 years now and at several times, I've turned down the offer of a promotion (the natural course is to move up the ladder). Of course, it means more money, status etc but I know it also carries alot more stress, pressure and expectation. The reason why in the meantime, I 'choose' to stay in what has become a comfort zone for me is because I am very good at this role, feel valued, people look to me and in truth, there's more security and longevity in this role for me than if I were to move up. I don't care if people think I'm not ambitious because my ambitions lie elsewhere outside of work. American Writer, John Steinback once wrote: "They are all very clever if they want something. They just know the nature of things too well to be caught in that wanting". In principle, do what brings you contentment and don't follow or listen to the crowd. Its' your life to live and not theirs.

If I look on KZbin to find a review of something it's because I want to buy something that is good and not waste my time and money on something that others found fault with. But buying something because you need. It, is different because you just want it or other people tell you you should want it. I have a huge problem with advertisements and advertisers. I used to make a big deal about it and my ex-wife used to hate when I did. She liked commercials. What kind of person likes commercials?

​@@RobFomenko I am not against advertising. When there is an advertisement that gives me information about something that I need or desire, it helps me to know what exists. I actually prefer advertisements to pushy sales pitches by people. The internet is awesome for testimonials. There might be some fake ones, but real ones exist too. Gadget magazines are essentially big advertisements. Often they have new things about which I would never have thought. I love those. I don't need to buy every gadget out there but it is fun to know they exist. It is true that tv or video ads get annoying when there are ten of them in a row. Ads won't make me buy the product unless I want the product. Ads just inform us. For the weak minds ads probably seem like commands. When I look at cable TV channels devoted to selling things, to me, it is clear that the hosts don't actually love most of the products. Yet they act like they do. Such must be a life sucking job for anybody with the tiniest amount of integrity.

I use this concept primarily in Mathematics. I believe one can learn anything if they take the concept they are trying to learn literally very simple. In my current maths trigonometry class, while they are teaching calculating ratios for different angles, I am always on my rough book pondering on and on for a simple explanation for the entire basics of trigonometry. Like testing whether the edifice I am standing on is strong for me before going to the next layer. I often sit with my best friend, who finds this kind of annoying. And then, one day I decided to give him some new knowledge. You see, the thing is once when you find something so easily understandable, the joy of understanding overwhelms you so much that you desire to tell someone about this. So, when my friend was pondering about radians, I told him the derivation. After some time, I explained to him the derivation of trigonometric ratios from a unit circle graph. His face lit up like a child who has been taken to a heavenly wonderland. He exclaimed, 'Oh! So this is why it is called Tangent and Secant!'. Right now, I am planning to write a notebook dedicated for those who want to learn trigonometry from A to Z and supplying proof everywhere.

I moved to the US and recently got a job classifying garbage at a festival where I live. It's a simple job and initially I was embarrassed of doing something related with trash. Physical labor was never "my thing" but since it's only a weekend per month I thought I'd take it. It ended up being super interesting. I was helping the planet and getting paid. The team was great and we had free snacks. When we ended our long shift and did our thing, I felt good.

For those of you looking to reduce the burden or choice, you cannot avoid choice entirely, but you can make substitutes such as deciding ahead of time how you will make your decision. Examples: 1. i'll buy the cheapest one that works. 2. If i'm caught between two good choices, i'll pick the one that's closer to my hand at the moment of indecision. 3. At the restaurant, i'll order the first item on the list i enjoy thinking about and not look at the rest of the menu, even if everyone else takes 10+ minutes to order. 4. i'll buy the product with the shortest name. 5. i don't even need to buy anything, so i'll stay home to enjoy the sun and moon for free.

It made me laughed when you mentioned about "dating and so many choices". So true that's why I don't date anymore...gave me a headaches...not worth it! Just like going to a restaurant, so many choices of food, so I rather cook at home at least, I know what I am eating and don't have to dress up. The best part of it, very quiet.

Some of my family members ask me how do I always seem less stressful and happier more than them while at home despite not owning a PC or rarely use social media. I think back to the sixties when I was a teenager. A book (or encyclopedia ) was my amusement. Lots of time to stare out the window at the sunshine and foliage. Or as a child, sitting on my grandmother's front steps, watching the ants.

I would recommend the book "The death of Ivan Ilyich" by Leo Tolstoy. The book is dealing with similar questions - how a wealthy and respected in society person, doing everything that is expected of him by his class, is still not happy, not invincible and ultimately no one truly cares about him. At the end he is alone in his death and burden to his family and "friends".

I think I am very good at dealing with the paradox of choice when I see a myriad of choices I just choose something and don’t look back I try to never second-guess a decision that I’ve made because that is the path to misery.

This is like swimming. A non-swimmer that falls into the water starts to overcomplicate the experience. They struggle and use more of their body than they need to. They try to keep more of their body above water than is necessary. They spend far more energy than needed. They tire themselves out too quickly. Someone like this can tread water for only a few minutes at most before drowning. Whereas a swimmer knows how to conserve energy. Relaxing, steady movements helps you tread water. They do not complicate it by trying to keep more of their body out of the water than is necessary. They sink into the water until almost submerged, and just have enough of their head above water to breath. They slowly and steadily kick their feet and wave their hands, conserving at much energy as possible. Someone like this can tread water for hours if needed.

I agree. It's a great analogy and the one thing that we all have to remember is in the end we all drown. But I would rather drown calm and contented with minimal energy use. Then exhausted and in a panic because I struggled. It is the basis for buddhaism.

Thank you brother for such an insight of what life should be. Your video helped me to calm down my mind which always keeps calculating what if this and that, always trying to predict what's next, what I should do next, later I realized I have wasted a good amount of time only on worrying, it has reduced my productivity and mental peace. Now I try to chain my wild mind n keep practicing not to worry much about future. One thing I noticed is mind works faster when I have less thoughts going in mind. But there is another problem though, when I get into chilling mode, I don't even have 0% energy, willingness to learn something or do something, I slowly get into a do nothing zone, and slowly into a zone where I almost ignore all my minimal responsibilities n later I feel like I have wasted my time without doing anything. I am finding it difficult to balance between keeping my mind chilled and running like a porsche.

*OH MY GOD* yeah I never thought - I used to get a date a week to a date a month when I was like 18 or 20 just going to the clubs, just as a byproduct of going out it was not the PURPOSE of going out, but you would just get chatting. 90% never went anywhere but that was kinda not the purpose - just meet up for a coffee or a drink, it was just "a social life" Ive just realised that's hardly a thing for young people now.

Have you heard of the shock over solitude study? They got a bunch if people to sit alone in a room for 15 minutes, with nothing to do except listen to their own thoughts, or give themselves a painful electrical shock. 67% of men and 25% of women chose to electrocute themselves, sometimes repeatedly. I feel it gives a really interesting insight into our human nature. We prefer pain over boredom. We will manufacture drama to avoid boredom. That's why healthy relationships make for lousy TV shows. We can't shut down the constant influx of stimuli without freaking out. We're scared of hearing our own internal monologue. I feel like that would make a great video, possibly tying it to Schopenhauer and his pendulum of boredom and suffering. This one was a great one!

I just think these two realities, pain and boredom, are part and parcel of human existence, and it's interesting to reflect which one a person copes better with. I was born out in the country my parents was farmers not well known at all and neither were their 12 children which I was one of the last 3rd child they had. I got an office job so simple unknown but I love it because I love simple silence peaceful life. I truly feel as I have one of the best lives and I let it happen I did not chase it I just was open to receive what comes my way. I do not look at myself as wise or smart but I just am and I love my furry cats they remind me keep it simple. I feel contentment in cleaning where I live at up see my results make me feel so content in my life and in my world. And once again thank you for your videos.

Absolutely true, simplicity makes our life easier in this complicated highly networked society. A lot about this is all in your head manipulated by media and society. Myself I am a good example. I started a year ago to switch into lower gear from high performance stress job as sr manager in the Silicon Valley to a more relaxed attitude, moved out of the Bay Area and already feel better. That burn out is going to happen over time, seen it many times. A simple life does wonders when it comes to a better balanced mental health.

For me, I have a job which pays me good enough. These last few months i have been thinking too much about the next job, improving the skills and attaining international certifcations. I am like, i want all this is to happen at once. But deep inside someone is trying to talk with me in a way that i should stop all this all at once and think carefully about the things i choose to do. I know its just a green light out there i am dreaming, in reality it will get even further away when you get there. So from now on i choose to be simple, calm and let the nature decide. I know its much easier to focus on 1 or 2 things at a time. I don't want to rush things it will ruin the beauty of my day to day life. Instead, i should take one moment at a time and be content for the day and be grateful for it. Slowly i will master my skills.

In order to make complex concepts into simple ones, you've gotta understand how they were never complex to begin with. It's a perspective thing. Our fears make the small seem big and the big seem small. Sometimes you'll meet a person who values simplicity in a way where they've actually made things out to be way more complicated or threatening than they really are. We have a duty to identify these pretentious people and mind the world they live in.
