Eisenhower Gives Press Conference (1955)

Old State Department Building, Washington DC, USA. Cut story with American commentary.
LS. Newspapermen and cameramen in conference room. LS. Reporters rising from their seats. as President Dwight Eisenhower walks in.
Eisenhower speaks into microphone and says: (natural sound) "Well I see we are trying a new experiment this morning I hope that it doesn't prove to be a disturbing influence. I have no announcement, I will go directly to questions" He then points to a reporter to ask his question which concerns the trouble with Nationalist China in Formosa.
MS. Eisenhower replying says (natural sound) "Well I should like to see the UN attempt to exercise good offices, I believe because wherever there is any kind of fighting and open violence in the world, there is a sort of powder keg. Whether the United Nations can always do anything in this particular place, I don't know, because probably each side will insist that it was an internal affair, although from my point it would be a good thing for them take a look at it."
LS. Reporter asking a question concerning the Hammerskjold and Chou En Lai negotiations. MS. Eisenhower replying says: "Well I would never admit failure to anything as long as it is going on, I have understood from his report that this was one step in negotiations that he expects to carry forward. Now the negotiations can never be a success until the American and allies unjustly held in China are returned to their homelands".
LS. Reporter asking how the President likes his job. LS. Eisenhower replying says: (natural sound) "I don't think I'll try to answer that one, but like everything else there's not wholly unmixed blessings in such duties" MS Reporter getting and rushing out of room.

It's called the transcontinental accent , was taught to actors in plays and tv back then. That's why they all sound like that in old movies like "it's a wonderful life" for example

I think it's caused by the recording device. There's a.i that repairs old recordings to sound original and it takes that old reporter sound away and they sound normal.

Valiant val thor was supposedly from Neptune I believe that crash landed here back when and helped our government with technology then after a while just dissapeared. Strange. Vietnam attempted independence in ‘48 and even used our Declaration of Independence to do so. The Stars and Stripes always ready to defend freedom said “No. They aren’t ready yet”. Huh 😮. So, They went to war on their own. Well, screw that. American sent some ships over to the Gulf of Tonkin to be able to claim that we were fired upon. After ten years of hellish, ungodly war that spread into Laos and Cambodia thanks to us, we lost 59,000 men snd made sure that no democracy broke out. It’s socialist today. We’ve stomped out no less than 35 so far because Freedom mean you have to pay the war mongers snd Ukraine is paying it today.

Eisenhower did not have anywhere near the press conference communication skills of his successor, JFK. Kennedy was a master speaker and a natural for TV; Ike was not. BTW: The voice over narrator, Andre Baruch, spent a year or two as an announcer for the Brooklyn Dodgers!
