That’s on the catcher. The more he frames every pitch like it’s right down the middle the more the ump thinks that must have been a ball.
@bradt7451

You mean pull? Yank? Butcher? Framing is a catching moniker that is 100% bullshit.
@bradt7451
@bradt7451 3 жыл бұрын
Let’s pull the pitch from a borderline down pitch to the middle of the zone because horsesh1t catching is the norm. If he sticks that pitch instead of yanking it like a 10U catcher it probably was a strike.

Would love to see that too. Libka's mechanics on pitches are a treat to watch. His consistent timing, positioning, etc would make for a great tmac's teachable.

The problem is,the catcher is trying too hard to frame the pitch..the pitch is fine where he catches the ball but he's bringing his glove up too far so it's making the pitch look more like a ball because it looks like the catcher is trying to sell it..if he frames the pitch and keeps his glove still..he might actually get the call.

The catcher jerking the glove all over the place indicates to the umpire he doesn’t think it’s a strike. Stick the pitch.

The catcher is clearly yanking the ball on all the close pitches. Umpires don’t like that. Catch the ball where it is and the ump will call it where it is. Yank it and as a catcher you are telling the ump “I don’t think it’s a strike but maybe I can fool you into calling it a strike”. So you won’t get the close ones. Catcher here is a poor receiver of the ball.

Get rid of the stupid box. It's umpire's judgment, it's baseball. There's more complaints about balls and strikes even though the ball/strike calls have probably improved a great deal. It's getting ridiculous.

That's all on the catcher. If he does a slight frame vs a drastic frame job makes it look different to the ump

Why is the catcher jerking his glove up? That’s little league stuff. It tells the umpire he thinks it’s a ball too.

Those were two great pitches that caught the zone. Clearly those were strikes, but I would be curious if Ripperger wasn't calling the low strike all night. I would have to see the charts.

I have been sating this for 3 years now and if they want to stop a lot of the BS they need to put the Strike/Ball window up on the scoreboard FOR EVERYONE to see, fans coaches and umpires and I think there would be a BIG improvement in the umpires calls or maybe a BIG LOAD of fan ejections for getting on the umpires or a BIG LOAD of Manager Ejections for objecting to the calls from the umpires. Either way everyone will be able to see the calls and know where the pitch was. It will make the day at the ballpark a little more fun for everyone.

CONSISTENCY is the key in calling balls and strikes. By doing so, both teams will adjust accordingly. ⚾️

Umps need to realize that their job is potentially on the line. They need to have the best game of their life every night otherwise the argument for going to a computer is easily made. It’s a tall order and past bad calls or umps you have to “prepare for” have made it even harder. The Joe West’s and Angel Hernandez’s have made the inevitable change, whenever it happens, an easy call for mlb.

Have you seen the Atlantic League? Robo ump frequently calls pitches in the dirt strikes. MLB umpires avg. 90%+ accuracy. Robo ump will be worse. Tech nerds are ruining the game in so many ways. This is just one more. Baseball was 1000 times better in the 80s and 90s. Teams manufactured runs. Guys didn't whine every time thet struck out. Games didnt take 4 hours with 15 pitching changes. Nerds who never played the game are ruining it.

As bad as you may think West and Angel are, they are the best in the world. It takes years of toiling in the minors to finally make it. Joe West has umpires over 5,000 big league games. You expect him to never miss one?
