This is probably one of the cleanest performances of this piece I've seen in a while. When we played this at a concert during my junior year, the flutes jacked up the first transition between the 2/4, 5/4, and back to the 2/4 bars at the beginning of Mvmt. 2. We fixed it up for contest though. It was at the Winter band concert, which was very nerve-racking to say the least. But at least we got through it. And this piece is how I actually discovered Frank Ticheli and his music. Great job to this ensemble for a fantastic performance!

Hands down. I was the unfortunate soul who was forced to play the sax solo. I remember my hands shaking so badly.

I just got home from our concert. We played this at an honor band where we had 7 hours of rehearsal to learn 3 songs. It was so much fun

Five euphs!! 😍You can really feel the power of the brass, especially in the second movement. I was lucky enough to play this twice and I loved it both times.

Thanks for listening Greg! The opening alto sax solo was performed by my friend Bob Miller. I’ve shared some of your recordings with Bob in the past since he too is an avid church musician. Hope you’ve been well.

The guy who was in charge of our 9/10 honors band made us play this. And just think ab it. A 9/10 band playing that. Most of them werent that good. He looked good conducting it, but like.. not us playing it.

Well no it’s not hard technically, but it is harder than it sounds when comes to dynamic control and stability of each note.
