as a H22A4 owner I highly recommended disassembling the bottom end of that engine to check for bearing wear and to replace the centre bearing cap O ring that prevent the high pressure oil meant for the centre bearing from leaking, it is a common known issue with these H series motors that the rubber is normally perished and replacing with a hydraulic system rated O ring is a good upgrade to prevent bearing damage
@InsanitySkullZ2 жыл бұрын
a bit of list of weak points on a H22A motor from my experience with my H22A4 and H23A1 motors rods are skinny don't bother turboing a unopened case H series without swapping the rods with forged ones the cylinder wall is a special fibre reinforced metal with special coating, only a couple companies are making FRM safe pistons, the rest make pistons for the more adopted iron bore swap, be careful if you do swap to forged pistons for this reason the oil pump stock has a lot of issues and will start to cavitate at about 7k rpm, porting can help, but for a track use setup I would suggest a more intense fix, a dry sump setup, it's costly but considering the cost to replace the engine these days, it'll pay for itself one thing you may struggle with this swap, the H series is a very heavy motor, your weight will be more focused on your front wheels, you can of course counter by moving all possible weight to the rear, and lightening the front with carbon body parts other than that these engines are real nice, I'd honestly consider a K series engine a stronger overall motor, but for cars that use B series the H is a easier swap with both being orientated the same way with little to gain from a K swap that would make it worth the extra cost

Probably true judging by the amount of blue smoke during the dyno pull, but dont see that happening anytime soon unless something seriously lets go.

@@InsanitySkullZ sleeves are absolute most weak. Stock sleeves with pistons and rods cam make 700 plus at the wheels easy and hold power. Boosting a stock H22 there's absolutely no issues at all. Mine barely let go but it was boosted for a while and had 165k original miles. H22s are more than fine revving to 8k with bolt ons.
@TheBb6prelude2 жыл бұрын
@@InsanitySkullZ who said the motor is heavy? It's barely 30 lbs over a B series. You can save that weight easy removing some stuff. Reading all of this makes it seems like we're back in 2005 when no one knew anything about H series. Over all the F20b is a way better motor. Swapping in a F20b 5 speed this week in my turbo prelude and I have a 230 whp F20b NA with pro2 cams on 91 pump gas revving to 9k. Going fully built.
@InsanitySkullZ2 жыл бұрын
@preludeF20Bking in my experience, I've had 2 oil pump failures due to sudden pressure loss over 7k, the engine can run well over 7k, the stock oil pump however sometimes cannot, in racing 30lbs is a lot of weight, we're not taking about the streets here anymore, this is track use we are talk about, the rods ARE skinny, and I PERSONALLY do not recommend pushing past 250 on stock parts in a racing environment, sure you can attach a gt35 snail and push the engine safely to more than that in short bursts, but in racing scenario it's more about the endurance of parts and how long they stay at that power in my experience I've had several rods bend due to the heat weakening them, but maybe I just got unlucky, still it is something I will list to newcomers of the H22A so they are aware the rods can be iffy

The only downside to Hseries I’ve noticed is the FIRM sleeves. The H doesn’t have Iron sleeves like the rest of the Hondas and can’t be bored out as easy and requires a special machine. My H2B is currently burning a decent big of oil and I’ve been told it could be the cylinders out of round and rings worn out which sucks because the FIRM sleeves make a rebuild rather difficult. With these motors getting hard to find it’s almost easier to have a block sleeved than sourcing another that may have the same issue down the road. My comp test and leak down show great readings on my setup so pray for me as I put this built head and cams on it and see what it’ll do! Keep it up John!!
