I am a single father who raised savage daughters; four of them, no sons. They are my shield maidens, my valkyr. Even though it says Mother, it still makes me think how proud i am of them now they are all women. Because the original is not actually about modern paganism . It's an old Viking, Norse song referencing their culture. The words are obviously not English. It's from a time when people were truly free, drinking, living as "heathens" war, and sailing. The original mentions how they wish to be one from the animals blood they consume. You can find the song in Norse it's a gorgeous song.

The person I loved the most on this earth was my grandmother. She was a single mother she ran away from my grandfather in the name of love and set off to America. Probably the farthest place a Middle Easterners could think of back in the 80. My mom was fourteen and my aunt twelve. She took her masters and PHD. My mom was in the first class of industrial engineers in my country and my aunt took her bachelors from there too. She was my idol in life, my everything. And no matter how hard evil and unkind the people and the world was. She never gave up an inch of her kindness and femininity. She most definitely raised two savage daughters. No one asked for this. But I miss her terribly and will love her always. may her soul rest in peace. The three of them deserve their flowers.

The hands shadow is like the representation of "disturb" that we get through our life. They'll tried to control you into submissive, but the lyrics that said "I will not cut my hair, I will not lower my voice" is like the "stubborn" of our character that never give what the shadows wanted. In the end when she sing the "our" part, there's new shadow among her like she's being protected by her ancestor or the support of all the women in the world, and the bad shadow is gone, living the shadow that protected her alone. It's so beautiful, that it's hard to explain. But I tried my hardest to write it from my perspective.

I'm wiccan/pagan. I spent a chunk of my childhood playing in the marshes and bogs in my backyard. Ducks, geese, deer, pheasants, birds and butterflies were my only playmates. I'd often lose my flip flops in the muck. My long hair was eternally tangled and Goddess forbid I let my mother brush it. This song feels like an anthem to child me, a wild savage, product of the Earth Mother before she even knew who or what the Goddess was. Blessed be!

This is my absolute favorite rendition of this song! I love the visuals with the hand shadows, I love her voice, the infliction she uses with the word broom, I love the drumming, everything about it is absolutely amazing and resonates so deeply for me. My only complaint is the one part of the song that is missing, the one with the lyrics about cursing too often, laughing too loud, howling at the moon, etc. I wish this version contained that part so badly. Many other versions have it, but they just do not resonate as deeply for me as this one does. 🤲✨️🦋👑

And yes, of all the siblings, I am the youngest, and the savage, daughter. Always connecting with nature and dancing through the woodlands. I'm German. I am thankful and proud for my mother to raise me her savage daughter - something she couldn't have from her mother. It took me 30 years to realize this. That her suffering and sacrifices she had to endure and the lessons she thaught me, raised me as the woman I am, thought me humbleness, selfworth and strenght. Someday I want to tell her how proud and thankful I am to everything she has shown me (the good, the bad and the ugly) and how she is the strongest person I'll ever know.

I was adopted by a woman who was incredibly abusive and absolutely hated that I loved to be out in nature camping and fishing and running around barefoot with my long hair LOL. My dad who adopt me and later took me from her so that I would no longer endure the abuse that he was unaware of was a 30-year Navy man who was also part Cherokee and so he taught me to fish and camp and appreciate nature and all of the beauty that God gave us and he also taught me to be true to myself. I'm so incredibly thankful that he did this because I now have a grown daughter with sons of her own and she is so much like me that she is very true to herself and very true to her heritage. To this day she loves to be out in nature refuses to cut her hair and is a loud voice when she sings so beautifully. Because of this she is raising three beautiful independent but respectful young boys. Thank you so much for this song under this particular rendition of it. I was a vocalist for a great many years and can greatly appreciate the beauty of the strength and control of your voice. The song strikes so closely to my heart because of my past and I appreciate it very much but you have done this for all of us as well as yourself.

@@bettyboopsynoop It sounds like folk music cause it IS folk music, just not norse folk music. It is slavic folk. And the original is not a nordic styled song but the lyrics are from a norse woman (aka the song has sayings/ phrases/ metaphors from norse folklore). The way she sings this song has nothing to do with norse folklore (besides it being a norse origin when it comes to the lyrics). It is slavic folk singing due to the slavic throat singing technique and it doesnt become "norse" just because the song was written by a norse woman and the lyrics mirror norse folklore. The way she sings it has literally 0 to do with norse folk music.
