I use the exact same fanning powder. Easily one of the best purchases I’ve made for cards. I actually use it on older cards and it makes them feel great again. Those cards that just seem to clump. But here’s the thing. The beauty in this powder. If you use it like Kat does and properly break your cards in you’ll never have a deck again that seems to clump or not feel right. This is very true and I’m glad this video is out there showing people this. Before I would go through cards pretty fast. Now I do exactly what Kat does here and a deck can last as long as you want it to last. Great video. Great work. I know it takes more than most of know to put these videos out so we do appreciate them. Oh and let me add three more words. Less is more. Also for some reason a lot of people out there say fanning powder is a crutch and they say to learn to fan properly and you wouldn’t need it. That’s crazy talk. Lol. It’s just called fanning powder but used correctly it’s called magical card powder. Edit: For some reason I thought I was the only one who took the extra cards out and put them away for packet tricks. Another reason is the deck just feel off with the extra cards. I guess over time you know what 52 cards feels like and it messes me up a bit when there is even one more card, I feel the extra thickness.

Only slight downside I find with fanning powder is that if you're using a deck with a full bleed of black, the powder may show. That said, the stuff works wonder in making the deck feel super smooth and yet still a bit 'tacky' for grip.

Thank you! I've asked many different magicians about this one topic. You're the first one to make one. There's always been some good comments referring me to magic communities that have helped me. Your thoughts on sliding the deck edge/side across denim to smoothen it any burs from the cutting process? Lastly, what tips can you give to get the most mileage out of a deck before you should retire it?

Fanning powder works exquisitely on EPCC stock! Try it on Superior Brand, it’s amazing! I highly recommend it, especially if you’re one of many people who always complains/experiences clumping with EPCC’s stock.

If you want to have the best result with fanning powder after you mix the powder with the cards in youre favorit manner do a fair one by one overhand shuffle 10 times and some fans too see if it needs more shuffle dependes on how you prefer the deck(customize) but dont do it with sweaty hands. Try it.

Hey Kat. You ever buff your cards? It really is amazing. You should look it up if you haven’t. It does help from damaging corners. Also it just feels really awesome.

DeckHead can you DM a link? Google is not giving me any relevant info lol
@deckhead24135 жыл бұрын
Ekaterina there really isn’t Lol It’s an old trick I learned from the old timers. There was once a video out where Dan and Dave talked about it I think. I have never actually seen it. I will say that I will never not buff my decks again. I have this specific nail buff and I do the edges of the cards. It seals the edges and makes them feel almost like glass. My decks do not get those dirty edges also it protects them from drops and bends. Not only all that it makes table faros extremely easy and just all around keeps the decks a bit more together. My doubles do NOT split and I can handle them pretty freely. Also I bought your cards today. I can’t wait. They are printed on what I think is the best stock. Oh and I can actually record a video of the buffing to show you. No problem. Just tell me where to send it.
@deckhead24135 жыл бұрын
Ekaterina okay so I took a few picks. The deck on the right is buffed. Look at the difference. Also it’s older and used more and still looks and performers better. And you’ve never dribbled a deck until you’ve dribbled a buffed deck lol. Vernon did this but with some stone thing. imgur.com/gallery/HrWW1B5

@deckhead24135 жыл бұрын
Ekaterina no you use a nail buffer for finger nails. One with four textures. I swear you’ll never go back. I’ll record it. I’ll post a link. It really does extend the life of the deck and keeps the edges perfectly white. Plus just feels better.

I've been using fanning powder for cards for a very long time. However, when you open a new deck of cards compared to the cards that are "powdered," the feeling is different. New cards slide on their own, while powdered cards are more "sticky," but you can make beautiful fans with them.

Fanning powder can make the cards more buttery and less snappy for my taste, but it's definitely something that can bring an old deck back to life. Especially those older decks with a blue seal by the uspcc in ohio.

Once I do a good ~20-30mins of breaking in the cards, go for a second application. Usually that second application will adhere better cause now there will be a mixture of natural oil from your hands and fresh fanning powder.

Use cheap decks to carry outside or when you are in a smoking sessions and don't wanna wash your hands. :) Bycicle or tally oh ;) I drop them in the mud, in the wet grass, on the asphalt. I dont care. Use cheap cards to practice especially aerials.

Hi EKat! Are you recommending that I “season” any deck I plan to break in and use? I have only used fanning powder on decks that were clumpy and fanning poorly. Thanks.

That's exactly what I am recommending for cardistry. Not a necessity for decks you perform magic with.

Hi Ekat, I used fanning powder in the 1970's. After using them for a while they started developing black spots, similar to fly specks. Fanning powder may have improved over time but I'm gonna wait. I still love Ur cards after a couple months they are nearly broke in & work like a charm. The card stock is an excellent quality. Do U have more gimmack cards that go with Ur deck. Thx...wayne

When I used to use fanning powder in the early 80s I would end up with black spots all over the cards after using the cards for a week or so. Did that occur because I was using bad fanning powder or because I didn’t break the cards in enough and the powder clumped into black spots? Although I think I put too much fanning powder on the cards. I would put the cards in a paper bag and shake the powder all over the cards. Then spring the cards, Riffle Shuffle, etc. sometimes if my cards still had visible powder I would wipe each Card one st a time with a paper towel. Then after about a week or two the black spots would appear all over my cards. I think the black spots where spots of oil residue that was fanning powered that clumped up.

Mike Ianneo seems like an issue for a couple of guys... I never had back spots forming... I will see if I can replicate this.

Related to magic: shouldnt the gaffs be innthe deck, so they can "age" with it? I imagine a single white line from a gaff card showing at the side of the deck gives the trick away
@ekatmagic5 жыл бұрын
Van Tuan Tran they would age way too quickly if I do cardistry with them 😋 I never had an issue to insert in a broken in deck. It's more difficult to insert an older card into brand new deck. My personal preference though.
