I come across this song today and it brings so much memories growing up. I was in primary school when my older brothers in High School comes home then fed me with those uncommon music. One thing of note is that, I just discovered today that Sunny Okosun sang this track. Memories of late 70s just come back to me just now.

This song was a huge hit in Ghana. I was in Accra for about three months in 1975 and almost on every hour, GBC radio stations were playing it. Of course, this was before Sonny's militant days, musically, I mean. Sonny had the touch even from the beginning.

He wasn't ''one of the few musicians that played meaningful songs in the 70s and 80s'' because there weren't just a few of them that played meaningful songs in that era. Musicians of that era generally played meaningful songs compared to the present.

Sunny Okosun was a great African freedom fighter who used his revolutionary songs to put pressure on country's that practiced Apartheid system of government. His songs had great impact that led to the freedom of many African countries under the colonial rule. May his soul rest in perfect peace, Amen.

Yes Uchendu, it was on rmp 45 and was written in 1971/72 by Perry Ernest from Onicha-Ugbo in today's Delta State. There was no party or college inter-house sports festival that you would not find this record. Those were the days when today's men were boys. Good to hear it once again. Thank you Ekeazor1. I hope you also grew with the music.

Fact bit: Did you know that Dan Ian was originally slated, by the studio producers, to be the lead singer on this track but was vigorously opposed to by Sonny Okoson due to prior fuse between the two. As providence would have it, Perry Ernest was brought in as a last minute replacement. The rest, as they say, is now musical history. Perry did justice to the tune and solidified his bona fide as a much sought-after studio singer. Unfortunately, he never quite was able to dominate the scene as a solo artist. May the souls of Sonny and Perry rest in musical peace.

This was 1973 or 1974, just before the original "Papa's Land" and "Fire in Soweto". Observe the old Bongos Ikwue's African R&B, which Sunny Okosun would reject from those two albums mentioned above and never return to, in favour of his militant, anti-apartheid beat that would define his music from then on.

@Oluwashina, I actually know the full story behind this. I interviewed Perry Ernest months before his death in 2013. Perry Ernest wrote and sang the song, however, Sonny Okosun is the artiste on record at the label that released the track- EMI. For formal purposes, it is a Sonny Okosun release, however, I understand your point.

Perry was a great artiste, who probably never got his full due. A great song. Side B used to be Mercy, if memory serves. May he and Sonny rest in peace. Thanks for setting this straight.
