Truth. I live in South Texas and did not winterize my Truma since our winters are norammly quite mild. When I went to use the camper for the first time this year. Water poured out of the Truma exactly as shown in the video. I removed the filter and the blow out disc was missing. Worse, the lower housing of the temperature maintainer module (the black plastic tank) was cracked. So, in my case , the filter freeze disc did not adequately protect my Truma. So, spent $2500 for a new Truma since they won't sell the temperature maintainer module as a part. Ugh.

Hello John, thank you for taking time to watch our video and especially share you thoughts. That is a great question and one that I should have elaborated further in. There are a couple of common reasons and a few that would be considered less likely. Chemicals can cause certain elastomers/rubber compounds to react and become brittle or soft. Some people will look to run decalcification process and ignore process manufacturers procedure such as use of proper tablets. As a result the two hour circulation process with the the incorrect tablets can compromise. This would be rare but an example of a chemical reaction that could lead to loss of shape and integrity. Another reason, possible more common is simply age or unexpected abrasive contact like friction which causes nibbling which is like ruffled edge on the edge of the O-ring. Sometimes difficult to notice and other times very apparent. This would be a result of improper “attempt of installing or debris contact. The other general reason is simply age and wear either do to the above conditions contributing or improper storage and care. Example, cartridge is removed and set aside on abrasive edge/surface (concrete, stored in garage with climate exposure and UV, or simply again age. It doesn’t take much for any-ring to loose critical Tolerance. I hope this helps.

I’m sorry but if you buy brand new spanking rv you shouldn’t have problems like that , how much ekko cost ? Winnebago was always overpriced for there quality build . They don’t stand behind there product . Thank you for that video very informative, hope you get that fix soon .

Hello, thanks for the feed back and thoughts. In this case, the failure was a result of my lack of pulling the filter cartridge from the Truma during the winterization process. The temps dropped below freezing and as a result the filter cartridge actual did it’s job by blowing the breakaway disk and saving the Water heater. I would say this though, had Winnebago opted to have the EKKO’s retrofits with the Truma Electric Antifreeze kit, then this would more than likely not be an issue. Definitely an opportunity for improvement. The retro fit kits are $330.00. Worth it in some respect, but again, my responsibility to follow procedure. Thanks again for sharing thoughts and concerns.
