When we eventually take delivery of our EKKO it will be our first camper with a cassette toilet. So I’ve watched a lot of videos to learn all I can. But your video was the most comprehensive of any I have ever watched. So thanks for taking the time to walk us through it. And your list of helpful links will come in so handy. Thanks again and please keep ‘em coming guys.

This is the best funny informative Cassette vid on KZbin. You have my sub👍I would also add one more tip, is to buy the garbage bags at Costco and place it on the restroom floor so you can put your cassette on top for better cleanliness and still spray afterwards, like you did as well. That’s just me though😁. Thank you so much for the awesome video.

As maintenance Lead for my district working for a concessionaire, I can tell you the ugly story of what people have had to retrieve in the CXT pit toilets! But the biggest mystery is why such a mess is made in the inside of the riser while dumping cassette & porta potties. The Americanizer might help, I want to fashion a short RV sewer hose that reaches to the bottom of the riser so I don't spill any on the inside of the riser. I use an 18-volt DC pressure washer to clean them, but porta potties spilled overnight on the inside of the riser tends to stain & stick to the riser, thus increasing the number of complaints we get about dirty toilets. This is my quest to figure out a good solution as we all know that use of cassette toilets is increasing all of the time. Keep up the good work! Cheers, Davey

We dealt with a Thetford cassette for five long years. When the formula for smell control changed by law last year we could no longer control potty smells when it was warm outside. I installed an AirHead composting toilet earlier this year and good golly, what a change!! No more smell, no more panic when you can't find a dump station, no more three days to fill the Thetford. Seriously the AirHead will go a month without changing the composting poop medium.

Dude , very thorough , what nobody talks about ! You can dump your measuring cup down the exit tube. You don't have to lay the whole cassette flat on the gross floor. The magnet contact for the float is what fails . take your shoes off after being in there before entering your RV. Livin my best life FT in a truck ~peace~

I thought this would be in my Watch Later for a very long time. Twenty-five minutes on a Cassette toilet! Yeah, I got other options. But this is very well-done with no wasted time. It can be a nauseating subject, so more Steady-Cam would help reduce headache. But overall, it accomplished the mission. After watching this, I would feel much more comfortable using and dumping a Thetford cassette toilet. Great job, thanks for sharing👍

@@ekkonesters599 Hi guys. Right now I have a 22 foot travel trailer that I am towing with an old 1998 Chevy with the mighty 6.5 turtle diesel. I love the old beast but its time has come. Time to upgrade. Thinking of a Class B. We are retired but don't have enough $$ to go out and buy new. (On a side note, I LOVE the Ekko but at over $250K in Canada, it is not in the picture.) Lots of the B's have the cassettes. Have read many stories, some not too pleasant. But just about nothing on maintenance, simple little things and tips, like you did. Oh, and my name is Brian. I am a retired heavy equipment mechanic. Hence the Wornout Wrench.

@@wornoutwrench8128 A pleasure to meet you Brian. The KZbin name makes sense fits for sure. All the way up in Canada 🇨🇦 pretty cool. Class B’s there’s lots of options for sure for sure. In respect to the cassette toilet, I think Thetford cassettes have a pretty solid reputation and I would not hesitate to go with a rig that has one. I can’t believe $250k is what the Ekkos bring up there. I agree that’s a pretty healthy price. In respect to the class B options are you leaning toward the Sprinters, Ford or Dodge? Keep us posted on what direction you head it would be cool to follow along the journey.

@@ekkonesters599 I just looked again to check my pricing, yup, $264K. The Loonie is sitting at $.73 right now. I spent the last several years of my working life keeping a fleet of heavy haul highway trucks running, so I have had a fair bit of experience with the systems needed to keep a modern diesel engine running, and I really don't want to go there again. $1000 sensors are just not in my future anymore, well for as long as I can possibly hold out. I would like a Transit based unit, but most of those are still pretty new and $$ so probably not. I'm not a fan of Dodge and especially not a fan of the Ram Van but if one that I liked came around I would look at it long and hard. I really like the Winnebago Solis 59PX. They are close to $200K new and since they are still so new, used are still up there in price. I really like the floor plan of the 59PX. So something along those lines. Sprinter. Ah yes. Something like a Revel would be the ultimate but those are crazy pricing plus it is a modern diesel so... Sprinters fall into their own weird category. They were and are designed as a work van yet because they are sold by Mercedes they are considered a Luxury vehicle and if you have ever taken your vehicle into a dealer for luxury cars the prices are shocking. My sister in law has a MB. It is a nice vehicle but some of the pricing is nuts. One of the little plastic hoses for the windshield washer fell apart so my brother told them to repair while it was in getting the oil changed. $300 for a new piece of tube and labor to change???? Needless to say as soon as it came off of warranty it hasn't gone back to a MB dealer ever again. Now having said that as far as Sprinter's go, yes, definitely in the running but looking at pre-2009 to try to avoid all of the emissions issues. Last summer we looked at a Leisure Travel Van, 2008 model, the 3 liter diesel but only runs DPF so not too hard to keep running. It was a really nice unit, only 81K km on it (51K miles) but the stealership that was selling it and I could not come to an agreement so we let it go. Looking back on it, should have bought it but we were just starting the search. Anytime I see someone with an older sprinter I ask them what they think of it and usually pretty positive. I have the whole cold wet west coast of Canada winter to look around and see what is out there. Hoping that the prices will come down a bit and some of the older units will show up. They are out there, I have a couple I am watching to see what the price does.

Each pod I believe is made for a 40 gallon black tank. Mine is only 12 gallons, so a little overkill. Since your cassette is only 5 gallons I think you can buy this particular treatment in liquid form so that you can measure a smaller dosage.

We Have a Roadtrek 210 class B with a black tank and the toilet broke. As we had a 78 VW poptop camper before this, a portapotti was normal to us. I plugged the black tank inlet with a flush screw in type from Home D. , put in an edged floor for the portapotti, and find I'd rather take out the tank, use the dump station (or a bathroom-I've carried the base with a garbage bag around it, or the woods as we use no dangerous chemicals and all T.P. goes in the garbage), wipe it down, put it back, and NOT HAVE TO virtually lie down to release a cover, get hose out, , unscrew caps, dump, deal with the flushing mess of black tank, etc. The Ekko isolates the potty part from the bathroom and rolls, which is nice.

Very creative and we can somewhat relate. Our old van was the bucket/bag and dispose of at rest stops and gas station, etc. we can definitely relate. Very clever on your end. We are currently spoiled, but so have our veteran years in the past options as noted. Thanks for watching and supporting our channel. Wishing you safe travels ahead.

Thanks for the video. So, it's pretty much just a glorified Thetford port-a-potti, like the one we use when we tent camp. I guess I'm not understanding why they would put something like this on an RV as nice as this one. Wouldn't having a black water tank that small really limit how many days you could be out? Maybe I'm missing something.

There are definitely pros and cons to the cassette toilet for sure. The cassette toilet is convenient based on overall accessibility to dumping locations. (Outhouse, public restroom, rest stop, etc) light weight and doesn’t require a dumping station. Also, overall plumbing and weight based on RV/van size. However, the disadvantages to the cassette can be the frequency/need for disposal compared to having a larger capacity black tank (15 -50 gallons). With the black tank you may be be able to hold for longer periods of time, but a dumping station will be required which can be more difficult to find unless your primarily traveling with the intent to stay at RV Parks. One other consideration is the overall intent of the RV based on travel life style. If your more of a boon-docker or off the grid type of RV adventurer/owner, then you’ll probably find cassettes a great option. But again if your traveling with RV park life style then yea a large capacity holding tank is a plus. Also, weight can be a consideration on certain builds. I hope this helps. Thanks again for sharing thoughts and comments and especially watching our channel. Happy Adventures and travels to you.

Is it possible to attach a hand bidet in the ekko toilet? Is there a way to split a line with the sink hose?
@ekkonesters599

You know anything’s possible, that would be an interesting idea. I’ve never considered it. I think it might be easier to split the line where the cassette toilets located.

well done on the video! did you do any type of suspension/lift upgrade on your rig? I'm thinking of a van compass or similar type of lift kit and adding more all terrain tires/wheels as well. Thoughts?
@ekkonesters599
@ekkonesters599 2 жыл бұрын
Hello, thank you for the compliment. Yea we ran the Van compass TOPO 2.0 lift. We are very happy with it. We also have the Falken 225/75/16 ( I have a video on this and we’ll). You can use 245/75/16 as well. Just requires rear spacers, which is no issue. If you go with the 225/75/16 you can install those without the lift. But 245/75/16 require the lift.

Great video but there was one mistake: Due to pressure that can build up in a toilet tank, the blade should always be first opened with the toilet lid closed. You only need to open the blade once with the toilet lid open, get sprayed, and you will never make the same mistake again. Don't ask me how I know this.

Hi Daniel, thanks for taking the time to share your experience. I have a quick question for you I’m assuming Do you have the same cassette toilet? I have not actually experience that much pressure in my cassette, Not to say that it couldn’t happen. But the auto vent, I am assuming relieves some of the pressure based on my understanding. You actually have a super curious about a few things and I’m grateful for your sharing because I can do some more homework on this take care and happy travels I may shoot you another message based on my discovery.

@@ekkonesters599 My EKKO is on order but I currently have a truck camper with a porta-potti and it is very similar to a cassette toilet but it does not have an auto vent. So it looks like my concern about pressure buildup does not apply to an EKKO.

Better yet, use some gray water to rinse out your cassette, rather than using fresh water.
@ekkonesters599
@ekkonesters599 11 ай бұрын
That’s a great idea, but it might be a little difficult on the echo because the graywater drain port is not the best at trying to trickle or regulate small amounts of water. But you never know I might give it a try and shoot a video on it. Thanks for the great suggestion. And thanks for following our channel and leaving a comment.
