Hey buddy, I've been going through this in the Vegas summer heat. I installed the mini heatsinks but was minimal improvement. I realized the aluminum plate IS the heat sink! I applied a thin layer thermal glue and 3×5inch heat sink(Amazon) to the aluminum back plate. Make sure you take some scotch-brite to ALL aluminum surfaces for better heat dissipation before you stick them together. Remove the black cover and drill holes through all four sides avoiding the data tag. Then mount the EKP vertically outside of the trunk carpet. Lastly, do the Protools EKP Voltage Fix. 113°F in Vegas yesterday. No problems

Yup, I mentioned this around the 8 min mark. A solid thermal pad of around 17+ w/mk would be a vast improvement. However with an active cooling solution, the EKP always has heat being removed from the case and I didn't find much of a difference between the stock thermal pad and an upgraded one during testing when the fan is on. The voltage fix is another great thing because the factory software greatly lacks efficiency, even for the factory pump.

Hi mate,can you tell me please if i change the module in my car,was ekpm3 ,my one was overheating and i replace with second hand one but ekpm2,it s any difference?works normal,i don t notice any difference...and if you can give me a link for thermal pad it will be great,thanks mate

If the EKPM2 came out of the same model car as yours, there's no need to change anything as the EKPM2 doesn't require coding and should just work as normal. A good thermal for these can be found here: www.newark.com/multicomp-pro/mp008843/thermal-interface-pad-150mmx50mmx0/dp/25AK3594 They're twice the thickness and 25W/m.K. It'll be a bit of a tight fit under the board, but it's possible to squeeze it under there, you'll just need to trim it to size. I'd also recommend adding the active EKP cooling as well, which can be found here: www.arcterminator.com

This is great, loved the video and the upgrade kit! I have a question about it though, I have an ‘08 e60 528xi, will I need to code the module after the upgrade is performed ? Cheers!

Hello, yes you can replace an EKPM3 with an EKPM2. Coding is required in order for the pump to behave normally.

Great vid… did you/ would you clear fault codes if any before reinstalling??
@FoulNews
@FoulNews 4 ай бұрын
Thanks! If you're having EKP-related codes, you can clear them before the active cooling install or right after. If they were related to an overheating condition, they likely won't come back unless the module's half bridge IC needs to be replaced.

So the car stalled on me twice on the side of the road once at high speed in hot weather on the highway, after it cooled for a period of time, I was able to start it up and drive home. Another time it stopped in traffic, but was able to restart right away, so I replaced the fuel pump control module. The original was a second GEN I believe EKPM2 .. replaced it with a EKPM3 .. Then I saw the video of your upgrade cooling device install. I cleared the codes and the EKP code 6294 did not return however I still have a 2AAE fuel pump code. My brief research tells me that could be something more like an O2 sensor or vacuum leak? But sticking with the control module, every since the new module was put in it has been starting really rough and idling rough and sometimes stalling, but immediately restarts if I give a gas at levels out and seems fine, should I consider the upgrade on the original second generation and just keep the third generation as a back up? Or would you put the cooling upgrade on the version on the newer model even though I have the rough idol issues at start?

@@steveroy3216 That definitely sounds EKP-related. The 2AAE code is almost always related to either a failing low pressure fuel pump or the EKP supplying more than 18A. What type of low pressure fuel pump do you have installed now? Also, when you changed over from the EKPM2 to the EKPM3, did you code in the new module to your car?

If it's the exact same part number, then coding may not be required. However, it's strongly recommended to code it to your vehicle to ensure proper flow rates.
