You keep saying Arab as synonymous with Moor but I think you'll find the Almoravid and Almohad Caliphates that stretched across North Africa and into the Iberian peninsula were predominantly Amazigh (or Berber as you called them) from North Africa. You did mention Berbers as allies and there certainly was some Arabization of the Amazigh people but you will find that the "Moors" - name has the same root as Morocco and Mauretania - were substantially Berber. Mauretania was one of their kingdoms contemporaneous with the Roman empire. And it seems to be very well proven that it was the same people all along, cross the straits of Gibraltar into North Africa.
@XxLIVRAxX
@XxLIVRAxX Жыл бұрын
Nonetheless the Caliphate was ruled by a levantine arab elite, arabic was the lingua franca of the Muslims, not until the first and second Taifa periods and Almohad and Almoravid will see Amazigh political elite.
@rdwwdr3520
@rdwwdr3520 Жыл бұрын
@@XxLIVRAxX Nah you're not that familiar with the details I can see but like the EARLER caliphates I mentioned above were major Amazigh caliphates and those firmly established them on the peninsula early on. Arabic was widely spoken as a result of Islam encouraging Arabic language and it's true that many Berbers took Arabic names. But frankly to the occidental European they couldn't much distinguish between the 2 groups so they basically equated Muslim with being Arabic. it's much like the average American who goes to a prominent Japanese restaurant in the city and is blissfully unaware that it's owned and run by Chinese people. But actually you can trace the Y DNA of the Morisco migrations and you will find it to be overwhelmingly the Berber haplogroup, which is quite unique to them. I will concede that it was culturally a mix though.

We must distinguish between the literary Cid and the historical Cid. Of the literary there is little to discuss, since it is based on a few written poems. That is the Cid that I prefer, because he chisels the prototype of the Castilian, of the frontiersman, accustomed to fighting for his land, oblivious to the ancient honor of the Asturians and Leonese, always faithful to his word and defender of the weak, rebellious and courteous to the other, stoic and tough, long-suffering and ascetic, unyielding and courageous. The reciters passed through the villages of Castile in the Middle Ages and recited the verses of the Poem. In school, we learned those lines by heart. Thus was born Castile, land of my father and soul of Spain.

@joserumbado317
@joserumbado317 2 жыл бұрын
@@therightarmofthefreeworld4703 My romantic vision is very similar to that of the English with King Arthur or that of the French with Roland. The difference is that King Arthur is only a medieval legend and there is very little historical news about Roland. El Cid is so real that there are even documents signed by him. The Castilian epic is the most realistic in Europe.

@@joserumbado317 Your spirit captures and intuits the truth in this matter very, very well, and perhaps in former lives you fought by his side? I know some of my past lives, and I was there with him, and what you have encapsulated in your description of him is true, and why, besides his many victories on the battlefield, he was and is a greatly esteemed and highly distinguished knight. It is an irony, knowing of greater details of his further lives, that his history is also entwined with that of the real King Arthur, who is not an earthly King, but connected to the one true King of Creation, Who is at the same time, is the Holy Spirit and the Holy Grail, who passes on energy to maintain Creation, unless you are indigenous to the lands of the US, whereby He is called the Great Spirit. He is actually thereby the Will of the Almighty God. El Cid was initiated in service to Him long ago, in the beyond on much higher spiritual planes, and holds a title in the beyond, as a real Knight, and he has reincarnated in many prominent lives, either as a highly reputable leader, or servant to a King, or other leader. Think of King Leonidas, William Champion, William Wallace, Hector of Troy, Hannibal, and many other prominent war leaders, including Tecumseh and Crazy Horse, and thus you have El Cid, the same spirit and character who returned time again to arouse the courage and strength of his fellow-man through his heroic deeds, which were aimed at the destruction of the greed, oppression and corruption of the darkness. And the spirit, through the intuition, is connected to higher virtues, and unyielding courage, along with a strong desire for genuine truth and justice. All those men then were the same man, his actual name is the White Knight, and he serves as a link to the real King of Creation, Who as the Son of Man, came to the earth twice to help men in the salvation of their spirits, yet who heard his call, certainly not the Church, but then they do not represent God anyway. I could elaborate on El Cid, but simply know that you are right in your provisional deductions of his higher virtues, for although a human spirit, he is the most developed human spirit who remains upon this earth at this time, and he is here one last time to lead any worthy spirit onto victory in the holy war between light and dark. And his final task is to help complete the work of the one true King whom he serves, and who he always longed to serve, hence why he struggled so much amongst the many cut-throat liars and traitors at the courts he served, for many a prince disgusted and betrayed him. And this deepest longing for truth and honour are signs of a mature and highly developed spirit, who has surrendered his soul to the Almighty. Thus, he was chosen as the White Knight, whereby he is part of the connecting link with the Grail King on high, the Holy Spirit, Who from high now commandeers the karma of men throughout the coming Apocalypse, when darkness destroys darkness, for as the legends told, man have ignored the voice of the spirit, and thereby produced much karma, whilst cutting off the absorption of spiritual radiations from on high. Thus, parts of Creation have been dying and decaying! For the most fundamental law of Creation is you reap what you sow, and this is a perfect magnetic process, so if a man has a strong desire to serve truth, and humble himself to this, as a true knight would, whilst protecting the weak and innocent, then he will attract higher radiations by which he becomes part of a mighty pulsebeat of Creation, so balance and good health are maintained, as the virtuous person eventually ascends into Paradise, man's true home, for the earth is a temporal place, simply for the awakening and development of his spirit. If men choose mere earthly desires though, they make no connection with these higher virtues, and so become distrustful, earth-bound materialists, who speak of the few virtuous ones as idealists, dismissing them as being unrealistic in their visions and desires for life and mankind. Whatever your beliefs then, continue to pursue such chivalrous ways, and your remaining days will pass with much less pain than these materialists, for soon we enter this Apocalypse from 2028 through a nuclear holocaust, and particularly in 2033, when WW3 breaks out. Always remember that our main goal as a man amidst all this insanity is to be a true warrior of the light, immersed in virtuous and valiant qualities, so that when you meet with either kindred spirits or foes, they can say to you, 'your quality will be known among your enemies, before ever you meet them'. Then, without seeking adulation and attention to yourself, you can a t least know that through your selfless, courageous service, you have made an impression, and a difference, in these, the last acts of battle between, not christians and muslims, nor easterners or westerners, or black and white races, but between the light, and the darkness. For soon, after darkness has destroyed darkness, the light will rule o'er these earthly planes, at long last and men will finally come to know of God, and His Kingdom, albeit in later incarnations, which must nevertheless be earned through good deeds. For we reap as we sow, and thus we must sow good, to receive of the blessings of Creation, which we can do in absolute service and joy, if we have the humility and dedication to truly serve, be it God, or your people! God's speed and strength in your further wanderings upon these earthly spheres, dear sir, and yes, be inspired, and likewise, inspire, for then you will forge a path with your spiritual sword to wondrous heights of luminous planes, for yourself, and all those attracted to similar ideals. Amen!

Played that game decades ago when it first came out and loved it, the only thing I didn't like about the Spanish campaign was the anachronistic Spanish special troops composed of mounted riflemen. It was fun, but it pretty much spoiled the game since a squad of riflemen on horseback could easily wipe out a slower moving band of melee troops twice their number at a distance.

Really? lol... I would think that the only grudge is because spain, and it's later empire fell due to their own corruption and incompetence, not to mencion the million civil wars

Being a descendant of Spanish Nobility around 1290, and a marriage with Aragon a noblewoman also names Urraca, even though there were much intermingled bloodlines especially with the Franks, as is mine, our Family name had only changed 3 times in the last 720 years and blood lines going back to the 5 th century were a little hazy still pointed to Frankish warlords in Gaul.

The truth is that the Muslims that conquered Spain were the Vandals whom were previously push south into Northern Africa by the VisiGoth from Spain. They Vandals converted to Islam. When they came back into Spain they call soutvern Spain by their name Vandaluz or the city of the Vandals in Arabic Al Andaluz. Today aka Andalucia.

Very good point, the name the muslims gave south of Spain is too much of a coincidence. A lot of vandals did stay in North Africa after they lost their kingdom to the Byzantines. Very informative comment.

So...he was a "...peerless warrior and astute politician who navigated a turbulent era with extensive fighting between the christers from the various principalities of the entire Iberian peninsula...against the islamistic Moors and Arabs from all over north Africa and the area we call southern Spain today! Having said that...groups from both sides swapped alliegences according to short-term expediency and military/socio-political gain of the moment. It was volatile unpredictable and interspersed with many significant battles of armies comprising tens to many thousands of men." - In other words please read that as..."El Cid was a violent treacherous lying fanatical religious extremist who would have thought nothing of exterminating every single muslim in the whole of the Iberian peninsula. He came close to achieving exactly this goal too although he died in battle before the "Reconquista" of the peninsula was accomplished in total...but the influence of the Moors in Spain exists to this day in several significant and permanent ways."...! Right I see I see I see! So THAT'S how it is! Super...!! 📺🤔💲♓ℹ✝✝✝⚔⚔⚔🗡🩸☪💣💥❗🤔😯😨😣😫🤔⚖⚖⚖💉🧬🧱🏹🛡🗡🧮📚📚📚📜📖💰💰💰❗🤔😣👎🎶🌵🎶🎶😆👍🤔😯😢🤔💊💊💊🍸🍸🍸😃🤨🌵💉💉💉💉💉💉💉😧🤢😮😐😑😪🥱❗😆👍🥱🥴❗😂🤣🤣😲🤮🤤🧻😃❗Bunch of fanatical religious extremists! Grrrrr!! Just see how it turned out...! Obviously it IS much more complicated than that (i.e. a war of religious imperialism on both sides) but apart from the local political wranglings not massively so...and...well...here we are!

Each and every nation needs a hero, more or less a real hero....In fact Rodrigo Diaz was nothing more than a noble military chief who fought for his senior ...and for himself... Still collective memory shaped him as a hero of Spanish requenquista.....so, his name will remain as it is El Cid ....

You can easily say that he was an opportunist but let's not forget one thing: he was making enemies everywhere he went and because of that, he was forced to change sides. He took advantage of the political situation but that didn't last alot everywhere he went.

Generally well done, but please, is there any way for these productions to be edited of their cringe-worthy mispronunciation of non-English terms? Spanish pronunciation, especially, is not that hard to learn, and editing for this would really boost the overall quality of the videos.
