I met Gene Smith “ El Turbo” in Sacramento California at the Union 76 Truckstop. The year was 1978 and he was parked next to me in the back row. He gave me a tour and history of the vintage Peterbilt. He was cooking and invited me to dinner. Amazing evening one I have never forgot. Keep on Truck’in

@ I met Bob Spooner with his needle nose yellow Peterbilt on the trade show circuit in 1982. He was pulling for Snap On and I for Allen-Bradley. We ended up at many shows together and got the history on his beautiful Pete. Keep on Truck’in

@@truckinfam2207 There is a long You Tube interview of Bob Spooner I saw a couple years ago. Beautiful old Pete. It was originally a 2 axle. He was one of the old time Truckers.

Thanks for a nice ride down memory lane. Like many, I remember seeing this beauty back in 77, 78 while running up and down I-5 hauling lumber. Always was and will be a head turner. So pleased to see it well cared for.

I was fortunate to live 20 minutes from Gene Smith on HWY 99 in the 1980s and 90s. The Original Large Car in my opinion. Gene is a legend. a true professional and a pioneer.

I remember El Turbo from the 80s going up and down 99 and I5. I remember he had a "Thank You" light on the trailer when you flashed him to come over.

In 1989, my Father bought me a magazine about american trucks. And there was a review about this truck! So it's fantastic to see this truck now. Congratulations to the owner, and to you Chris for the video and your work. Greetings from France, Mickaël

Saw el turbo at the working class truck show in Anaheim California in the 90’s it was a little different then only four gauges then and a shorter wheelbase and different sleeper, wish I still had my poster, hung in my garage for many years. Maybe I can .get another one in the future, What a great truck

You knew when Gene was coming or had just passed. Not that his radio was especially powerful, but almost every driver had a comment about the truck or about him. And that was a working truck back in the day! Used to see him a lot at all the "familiar places".

I've loaded produce in socal alongside this truck a few times in the 1970's. An old gentleman and his wife owned and operated it as I remember. I thought it was a special truck even back then.

I have a copy of the Over Drive magazine with an article about El Turbo. It`s in a box of old magazines when we moved years ago. I passed El Turbo on (I think) I-5 in northern Calif. back in the 70`s north bound towards Oregon. I was in my 20`s then. After all these years, don`t know why I remembered it, but thought what a beautiful truck.

It's my understanding that the model 350 can be a cab over or a conventional truck . The only time Peterbilt used a model number desalination for both .
