I am 40 years old and make £105k salary as a software engineer. Fully remote and chill company. Wondering if I should push it and try for an increase. I'm at the top of the pile and if I move I probably look for £120k+ jobs which do exist but are rare I think
@mektrode24 күн бұрын
The double tax whammy (~60%) between £100k and £125k will eat away any meaningful raise in that range, unless you can get something in the ~£135k+ range its not worth the hassle imo. Instead focus on building other sources of revenue since you've pretty much maxed out the Tech ladder. Build indie apps solving niche problems or create content (blogs, newsletters or maybe even video/short-form or YT)

I am only a first year associate working at a local public accounting firm with no certifications other than a 4 year university degree in accounting in the United States and my yearly salary is $70,000. This equates to exactly 55,800 pounds in UK currency so I am very suprised at how low the starting salaries are in the UK.
@ericl63868 ай бұрын
Uk salaries in general are way lower then in the US but the cost of living is also lower . If you want to make as much money as possible you are definitly better of in the US . Just look at the median salaries for physician in the UK and US it is around 100k in the UK and closer to 400k in the US and you can get way more depending on your specialty😅
@tancreddehauteville7643 күн бұрын
Salaries are much lower in the UK and Europe than in the US - this isn't a secret. The per capita income of the UK is just less than Mississippi. That tells you all you need to know.

Index funds, is the way to start if you do not have enough for property. A stable home is the most important to relieve 80% of stress on year to year moving. Not financial advice but I suggest S&P500 and FTSE100 on a monthly basis. For the average person who doesn’t pay attention to every financial news etc, just stick to these 2 over 20+ years. £200 a month if you can afford it is a good start. Any less than that then probably better just to open an ISA saving account.
