Great review - thanks so much! For me, give the S-803 time to break-in and they sound better than even the Elac Uni-Fi UB5, which I also owned but have now sold. I don't miss them at all. Here are my impressions after purchasing Jamo S-803 just before Thanksgiving. I made the comment below in response to Z's review of the Jamo C-103, which I also now own and use as my main L/R front speakers. I have no problem pushing the S 803 to loud volumes - they sound great at all volumes (powering with 300 watts per channel RMS). I don't hear them as bright at all, but more warm and lush like my beloved Wharfedales ... just more lively in the high end without being too bright, etc. I made the comments below after giving myself about a week with the S 803s: "From my comments on your review of the Jamo C 103: "Z, I wanted to thank you for your reviews, and this one in particular. I saw your review of Jamo's S 803 and, of course, KZbin quickly linked me to this one as well. I uncharacteristically followed your advice to get these however possible if I found a pair. I immediately went to eBay and started searching. I found a "like new" pair of the C 103 in Walnut that was ending soon. I ended up winning the bid at $405 and I actually received them just before Thanksgiving. All I can say is, "Wow!, and that now I have a beautiful pair of these bad boys in my main home theatre setup. When listening to simple stereo in Pure Direct, I simply close my eyes and the artists are now transported into my living room for a private performance! These are absolutely amazing and need no subwoofer for stereo listening. Amazing sound and Jamo is now on my favorites list. :-) Oh, by the way ... on the same day I also went to the Jamo website and purchased a pair of the S 803 in Walnut based on your review and recommendation. Jamo shipped them immediately and I received them before Thanksgiving as well. Of course, these were brand new and needed break-in. But over the course of the Thanksgiving weekend, they really opened up and now ... Holy crap, these things are incredible! They have a magical, lush warmth in the bass and midrange, like what I love in Wharfedale Dentons ... but whereas Wharfedales are a bit laid back in the higher frequencies, the S 803 are incredibly lively and clear without being the least bit fatiguing. I have had a hard time taking them down so I could spend more time with the C 103s. Everything just sounds so freaking good! I don't know how Jamo does it, but I hope they never stop!" Beauty truly is in the eye (or ear) of the beholder. :-) Keep it up, your reviews are great and really help the listening community!

Joe N Tell Yes, loved your review, Joe - keep them coming! I just had to come to terms with my own sound preference, which I am finding is in the Wharfedale ... and now Jamo ... camp. I like to listen for long periods of time, especially as I near retirement. In doing so, I found myself tiring of the Elacs after a while. The initial sound impression was there, but Wharfedales (and now the Jamos) are the ones that keep me coming back for more. I find myself excited to hear more and more of my music through them. The Elacs just didn't draw me in and keep me there. That's what I love about Audio ... it's like Art and Love ... the beauty is in the eye/ear of the beholder. :-) Thanks again for your excellent reviews. They add so much to the listening community. Tharmabar, the same applies to you! Merry Christmas to both you and Tharmabar!

@@RainbowCharade Absolutely, I do not have any regrets. I love them. I have played them along with Jamo at that time and I found that ELAC can generate more punch and power as compared to Jamo. Since that comment is already a year old there are few more speakers to consider now. There is one speaker which right now which is making a lot of waves in the market. If you could try or give that a listen www.klipsch.com/products/rp-600m-bookshelf-speaker then it would be awesome as you will have something to compare with. Else if you are getting a good deal on ELAC just buy it these are solid and sound awesome. Also If you have bit of spare change then ELAC just did reference series of the same speaker, since they became super popular - www.elac.com/series/debut-reference/. I hope I have not confused you :) I just dont want you to miss on anything :) - Good Luck

Excellent work on the review man! I really enjoyed watching it, lots of great information. I picked up a pair of the Elac B6.2 speakers last week. I also have a pair of B6 speakers also. I find the 6.2 speakers to be more musically accurate than its predecessor. The tweeter is much more open, and detailed. The midrange is more detailed, and natural sounding. The bass is tight, and accurate. I listen to a lot of jazz that has a stand-up bass. The plucked bass sounds very realistic on the Elac 6.2 speakers. I have them hooked up to my Parasound Halo P3, A23, and Marantz UD-7007. I also use a Cambridge audio up-sampling DAC. I have played all types of music, and the 6.2's sound great!

Could you please tell me if the midnotes missing will be filled by the atmos modules placed on top, connected to the b speakers on a htr-yamaha 5590, 6.1 system for a 4 channel front speaker setup using a and b speakers? I am buying the surround package for 200 dollars. For now bose 201 series iv will be the surround rears and a DCM TB1212, dual 12 inch sub, (one passive) 300w watt subwoofer, all three purchased for 70 bucks at auction. Will round out the budget setup for my daughter's 4k pc workstation/home theater setup (atmos receiver coming soon.) Thank you, much appreciated. Be safe.

Here is my little tips. When I cannot decide between similar products of similar prices, I choose the heavier one(in this case, the Elacs). It is because a heavier speaker usually implies a tougher cabinet, a bigger magnet. A heavier amplifier/CD player usually implies a bigger power supply. I have just bought a Dali Specktor 2 together with the award winning ELAC Debut 2.0 B6.2. Same price in Europe. All I have to say is that a great suprise is, for sure, the Specktor 2. While the ELAC ares firm, well built, heavy, robust and neutral, like a floorstanding speaker on a small pack, the Dali Specktor 2 are like a fresh air or surprising view in your life. Is like a great surprise for an old man. While ELAC bass are strong, Dali surprises you with its smooth highs.

I'll have my review of the Jamo S803 posted soon. The Jamo sound good but can be a bit bright and boomy and are not very well made compared to other speakers I've looked at. The Elac are the better overall option granted these two are priced the same. I'd take the DCM TP160S-CH over both considering there only $80 - $100 and sound just as good.

I ordered them based on zeos excitement about them. I also got the atmos add on speakers for $150 from crutchfield. Now I'm starting to wonder if I should have ordered the s-803 at all...? I mean everything your saying in this review makes perfect sense , zeos wasnt saying any of this in his review. Maybe s803 only shine above the rest with incredible amounts of wattage and that's their sweet spot?

That could very well be the case. I'm powering my S803s with a Yamaha HTR-5590, an older, transparent, high-end receiver... and in conjunction with a good subwoofer, the results are impressive, to say the least. Since I listen to mostly orchestral music, I prefer their bright and detailed sound signature. I suspect the S803s would be end-game for many people... in smaller rooms, at least... or for surround channels in home theater.

Currently I have Tannoy Eclipse 3 driven by a Denon av receiver. I hear only streamed music on Bluetooth. I know this is not audiophile stuff but I d like to venture into more pure music. I like the warm Tannoy sound signature but the lows are too boomy and not clean (i am hearing my room here). I like tight bass as well. I am planning on a stereo amp cum streamer like yamaha rn 303 / 602 and wharfdale 11.2s. No audiophiles seem to review these stuff. I would love to have some middle ground here. I listen to a lot of different kinds of musical styles and while "dry and clean" electronic music or well produced clean rock sounds good, everything that's a bit wilder and where the instruments aren't as clearly seperated sounds very bad. In those cases it's a very strange sound that comes out of them, some instruments are completely hidden while hihats shatter my eardrums. Maybe they need some more break-in time but I doubt I will keep them.
