I love this review style. It feels just like visiting a friends house and talking about the system. I can't even remember the last time someone else did anything like this. It can be followed up with a formal review with comparisons or you can just cram it all in one video as well while showing different speaker placements etc....

For the love of God finally a decent review. I really like your new format, people who waych these reviews are music junkies so being able to finally hear music in your reviews is very welcomed. I'm very surprised because the way you set up the mics actually picks up the sound quality of the speakers very well. Might I add probably one of the better sounding reviews of speakers that I've heard to date.

That was great Ron, love the whole process thing and looking forward to the rest of the videos for this speaker. I was so close to buying these but settled for the Kef's Q100 that I picked up for 250 and went with the F6.2's and I am so happy with my decision. The floor standers are amazing but nobody has reviewed those yet. Sean has talked briefly about them but not much else. Thanks again, great job!

Hi Ron - I do REALLY, REALLY like that you actually allow us to hear what you're describing in your reviews. I think the ideal New Record Day review would have a nice balance of you describing, showing and educating with long enough sound examples too, exactly like you did with this review. It's nice to see when a reviewer actually admits a mistake. This gives you even more credibility. Regarding adding mass to your stands, I was a believer in adding significant weight to speaker stands about three years ago. I added 50 LBS of washed, reclaimed lead shot to each of my Pangea speaker stands. The result? Makes my $1600 a pair of B&W CM5 stand mount speakers that I paid $899 for, sound like a $5K pair of speakers; wait..... actually sounds like a five grand pair of floorstanders. Best tweak EVER. Thanks for the review!

it's really awsome that you are doing this, giving people a chance to view how you evaluate speakers. And I get a chance to listen to the music you use, and the way you describe the music, awesome!!! You are going to be the talk of the town! One suggestion, I think you might just want to... not talk because it interferes with the transmission, sometimes on my speakers (desktop BOSE) the left or right speakers flutters. Instead, what you could do is to type your comments on the keyboard, and let the words pop up instantaneously on the video (is that possible?) So that people can benefit from your comments while not being interrupted from their listening. Thank you Ron for doing this!!!! I look forward to your next speaker review!!!!!!

A great review. I am happy to see in depth reviews for affordable speakers that buyers on a budget are likely to choose for their own setups. I have read and heard dozens of very positive reviews for the Debut 2.0 B6.2s and, well, I might've gotten them for half price on Cyber Monday! How could I not? My experience: At very first, right out of the box, they sounded a bit reserved and there was definite lack in the higher frequencies. The speakers were delivered while it was cold outside and I opened them up a few hours after they had been indoors. I suspect the magnets and baskets were still a bit cool when I started listening. So, before becoming critical, I just left music playing at low volume overnight and through the next day while I was at work to run them in a bit. That weekend, after a good 72 hours of break-in time, I did some critical listening. I found what you found. These are an incredible value for the money. Nice frequency response, great imaging and sound stage, no harshness.. they disappear into the sound stage and present music with nice depth. I am driving them with an older Onkyo integrated amplifier that has recently been serviced. I am very, very happy with them! Thanks for doing this video, would love to see more like this!

Yes PLEASE more speakers reviews like this. Very convincing .... I'd go buy a pair after your review. And the irony is my Dad already has this exact pair, bought 2 years ago) now paired to a NAD receiver from the early 2000s, connected by spare set of Kimber Kable 4PR I had. Very impressive, balanced sonic profile. Multi-layered and there's always more details and depth to reveal. They are very reminiscent of the Energy 22 Pro Monitors we had in the '80s/'90s and that's saying something, as those speakers put Energy onto the world stage.

Despite their lower price, that is one of the BEST recordings of live speakers that I have heard. You must have excellent room acoustics to pull that one off! How did you mic/record this? Did you use two mics? FWIW, I'm playing back through Threshold S350e and S-450e biamped to JBL 800's with solid, inverted, Titanium dome mids. Great video!

I just bought my ELAC B6.2 several days ago at Best Buy 50% off. They went fast at most of the Best Buy stores. I been hearing good reviews and thumbs up on these brilliant speakers from Andrew Jones. I use mine on my newer Onkyo 2 channel receiver and they sound awesome. Being a fan of JBL because "I wanna hear the truth". Yet these Elac sure creates a good sound stage. I'm sure they are still in the "break" in period and soon as they pass thru that point they will be even better. The vocals are what I like about these. So life like and normal essence. I highly recommend these for those seeking a nice sounding and affortable speaker system.
@smil3493

One thing that I always the reviewer is to list the tracks played in a review process and possibly tell the reader which in this case is the watcher/listener what to listen for when evaluating a speaker or any hifi component. This way someone who has let's say an Elac speaker can try the tracks and listen for a specific sound and come up with a conclusion. I think this is the way to go for an innovative review, which can involve others. Keep up the great work. And thank you for all your doing.

I picked up a pair of these for Black Friday... They're my first brand-new piece of hifi. Lots of fun, versatile, big and clear-sounding. A little more warmth for vocals would be appreciated, but as they are, they still sound lovely. Definitely subwoofer-not-required speakers, at least in my upstairs duplex unit with a small, hardwood-floored living room. Unfortunately, it seems I got a lemon pair and one of the tweeters is very, very shot just a few days after unboxing and pretty relaxed listening. I'll just be here waiting patiently for Amazon to have them back in stock and send me my replacement set... As my first piece of kit, I can't claim to have any point of reference from the current market. Part of me wants to buy half a dozen sets of bookshelves en masse and do a round robin to decide which I want to keep, but I don't think my credit card would be too happy with that. I think the perfect buyer for these speakers is someone like me - lots of time spent critical listening and loving their music and just need a place to start.

Funny. I watched first - listening through my Boston Acoustics CR9s - decent enough speakers in their day. You did a good job miking because the music was crisp and clear. Except when it wasn't - when you were talking. Then everything went mono. Anyways, then I plugged in my own Elac Debut 2 6.2s and listened again. Wow. It's amazing to think that sound came from your source, through your preamps/amps throught the Elacs, into the air and into your mics, into your computer, uploaded to KZbin, downloaded from KZbin, run through my AppleTV into my Yamaha receiver and finally back into my Elacs. and the music still sounded fantastic. My mind just blew up. I'm waiting for a vintage preamp and power amp to arrive from an eBay purchase. These Elacs can only sound better.

Hey Ron, I have not had the chance to hear these speakers in person and likely wont any time soon as there are no shows in California anymore and no dealers near me. I could run down to ELAC North America myself as they are close by, but can't get time off work for such things these days. (Andrew, Chris and I are good acquaintances). I am going to try to visit him again next year at least if I get the chance. They tell me the door is always open for me..that is nice. Knowing Andrew and his builds I bet the voice coils and pole ports are huge, which partly explains the speed. From judging by the KZbin video here, I can say they do indeed sound different than the first Debuts. In fact, in my opinion, they are a notable improvement and the originals were amazing in their own right. Oh, I caught that Sean sign-off...you don't stop do ya...LOL By the way, Andrew recommends kitty litter for filling speaker stands over sand. It actually makes scientific sense because kitty litter is better at absorbing any moisture and will keep things dry between the metal and the fill. When sand gets a little moist it can eventually rust from inside because without air it will stay moist. Andrew is also a physicist. When he invited me for the first time to interview him, I was sure glad I took physics! Even at that I barely kept up. One of the nicest guys in the biz by the way.

Also looking at Wharfdale, the $500 a pair model. The Jones design is a big selling point for me though. Looking at the Kef LS50, but not sure I want to go that high for my office, which is smaller at 14 X 20.

enjoyed the video. have both the debut 6 and 6.2 (couldn't pass up the deal) in the same room. not under ideal conditions. can't decide which i like the best, depending on the music. the soundstage of the 6.2"s is amazing, last night heard cymbals 6 feet outside the footprint of the speakers. don't have experience with other speakers, relied on youtube reviews, but what a value the elac's are.

Hey great video, very original and absolutely loved it. Please review Ascend Acoustics 340SE, that’s what I had before my PSA and Klipsch bookshelves. But would love to hear what you think about them. Good job brother!

Yeah, definitely prefer this type of real time review. Headphones a must. I know people say its compressed via youtube and you are listening to your own speakers/headphones, but if you use the same equipment you can tell the difference between speakers, provided it is recorded well, like in this vid nice job.

Good stuff. Listening to these over my computer system, vintage receiver and Micca MB42X desktop set up. The Elac Debut 6.2s are about six-seven feet from me in an equilateral triangle from my desk to my left. Although the youtube recording and the Miccas do not sound exactly like the Elacs, there is a clarity and detail and some bass still there. Of course the actual speakers are even better, more presence and low end. The new Elacs are closer to an audiophile speaker, more refined, more top end detail, faster, better staging. They really do sound two or even three times better than their asking price. If you're on a budget and you have at least a mid-fi integrated with some grunt. These will do you! More bass? Add a sub. But decent bass as is, not extraordinary, but good! Yeah, this format is good as long as you do follow ups and a conclusion!

Hi Ron, lovely review - thank you! I am considering these (with a marantz pm6006 amp?) though also have QAcoustics 3020i in mind too (smaller woofer). Guessing the Elacs are bigger on the bass. Just wondered what your thoughts are and if you have tried the QA 3020i speakers?

A sound demo! Yes this definitely should be a thing. This might be due to the mics, but the highs are a little pitched. The midrange is very forward, they have some meat on the bass which is great for bookshelves. Overall they sound good! ;)

Hey Ron nice review, though I might suggest associated equipment. Did you move to a new place by the way ? I like it. I'm curious to know what you think of these Elac compared to the Buchardt S300 you also recently reviewed. I'm seriously thinking of getting my first ever bookshelf speakers and the Buchardt's are at the top of my list. FYI I was originally thinking of going with GE Triton 2+ or MB Silver 500 but after several emails with other in the know people including Sean who I've been following on his KZbin channel. I've come to believe the towers would be overkill in my rather small undedicated living room 15' long by13' Wide and 8' High. The speakers are going on the short wall with two floor to ceiling windows firing into living room adjacent to eat in kitchen another 8' by 25' I look forward to your opinion.

Hi there! Nice review.. What do you recommend for an Yamaha r-n602? I have an subwoofer but i cannot really use it because of my neighbors. That's why I i need something for music listening most of the time, so i need a good set of speakers which don't lack the bass so much and if they are affordable that would be great.. Are this Elac's the best choice for me, considering that they also have the bass port in front?.. Thanks
