I was under the impression it was almost a sort of Egyptian afterlife thing, like killing Nuzzer Fubs while he was tripping on his chemicals opened a portal to the realm of the dead, and she wasn't supposed to be there since she was still alive so she had to have her heart removed so she could symbolically count as 'dead' before she could proceed.

Our gun-toting friend gleaned the ability to download data from the recently deceased into himself instead of letting it be claimed by the Elders, while his smiling nemesis instead grew obsessed with encountering them again and so began experimenting with "mind-expanding" hallucinogens on unwilling subjects to see if he could send a living subject into their presence and back to claim all those eldritch secrets for himself.

Everything terrible that happened to Elain is a direct result of her jumping out the window in the first episode. She destroyed the generator with her landing, trapping Dento within the elevator. Dento being stuck led to her going up against Gop Donsterly without backup. Because she went in alone, Gop was able to overpower her and send her to the vore dimension to play a quiz game. Losing the quiz game got her sent to the Hunter Pound, which led to the events of this episode. If she waited for her partner, he might have been able to save her from Gop. Even better, she may not have been swallowed at all. But she got greedy, and went by herself. The horrors that have since befallen her were put in motion by her own hubris.

Vondu is a veteran and probably has his own universe with (probably) more gun and jar under his coat. It's not a bad theory but I don't think this is Elain's first kill. She keeps a large amount of guns on her at all times and has been a bounty hunter before with Dento. Unless she's just cartoonishly unlucky/skilled and just non-lethal'd her way this far... I think she actually got her heart eaten by Love Nugget and she's wondering if that's going to have consequences later...

I genuinely feel sad for these characters... especially Elain and Dento. Elain has been forced into a world that she didn't ask for, and Dento is left to wonder what happened to his good friend (possibly lover, but that's for another time). Elain has been through hell and back, literally. She deserves better... I really hope to see some kind of finale or epilogue where Dento and Elain can have a happy and normal (or as normal as you can get with Goosworx...) life. It's even more impressive that Goose has managed to create such a vivid and emotional film with almost no dialogue whatsoever. Simply astounding. I also really like how the scene with the Target Buddy references, or is at least similar to, the scene from The Incredibles. Very nice. Fantastic cartoon.

This is some of the most surreal and absurd shit I have ever seen and I love it. The animation is so smooth it feels good to watch. It is so silly and yet never to the point that the dark parts feel like tonal whiplash. They even use the macabre as part of the silliness. I love how the colours are bright and complementary without being saturated and garish. I love the use of voices sparsely for background details. I love this.
