I am doing a lower motor mount install, which is a little different. I have never worked on cars and I am scared of jacking this car up and putting it on stands bc I am not exactly sure how to do it safely. You seem to have a good understanding about the strong points of the underside of this car, including the subframe. Could you give me information about a good way of where I may put my jack so i can slip jack stands into the jack points? I want to put jack stands under the car, then put the jack under the front side of the car for extra protection. I am just afraid of damaging my beautiful 6-speed Elantra N. I just know once i have done this successfully I won't be afraid to jack up the car to change out tires and do maintenance.

Jessica, I understand, these N’s are VERY tricky to safely grab with a jack stand. What I did here was to lift the car using a floor jack on its OEM pinch weld lift location and then placed the stand on the subframe near where the lower control arm is connected. In most cases the subframe on any FWD car is plenty strong enough near its body mounts or the lower control arm mounts to support the cars weight - it can because it already does! If your unsure, the easy way to figure it out once you’ve determined its a well supported area is to place the jack stand and very gently lower the car looking for metal to not deform or flex too much. The subframe may deflect some, 1/8”-1/4”, but no more and remain solid. Regardless of all of that, it’s your responsibility to ensure your jacking/lift points are safe and assess each lift scenario as if you’ve never done it to ensure its still safe. If you live in the area I’d be more than happy to demonstrate and explain these things in person so you’re more confident.

The Power Flex bushings are one of the best mods for my Veloster N. I used the yellow "Street" versions, but they did exactly what I wanted. Good wheel contact (no wheel hop) and no noise or vibration issues.

Yellow is too soft, we have seen examples of them ripping and popping out. Use at least the purple or preferably black. Don't wimp out and do the job properly

@user-us9jo6xu7z four years, and they are working fine. I was concerned about introducing NVH into the cabin. In retrospect, purple would have been fine. My wheel hop is abated and the shifting is smoother between 1st and 2nd. Hyundai upgraded bushings on the 24 EN. Thanks

The underside of that car is immaculate! What’s the endgame with this car? 10 sec 1/4?

Good ole Southern cars, lol. Low 12’s may be difficult as is - idk how far Jake is willing to go.

10 seconds would be really difficult. The first DCT car broke into the 11’s with upgraded clutch packs in R&D.

Just an FYI. Don't need to lube the outside of the bush on the top mount. It can rotate and tear. The metal insert comes out of the Powerflex bush and that is where you want your lube. Had the Yellow, Black and now Purple. No issues.
@MurphysLawGarage Жыл бұрын
There is no way that insert/lockout could rotate and tear due to how the mount itself is designed. All forces applied are torsional. Does it help anything? Probably not, but it wont hurt.

@@MurphysLawGarage I have seen it first hand. Had someone message me asking me about it and find out they had torn 2 bushes putting the grease on the wrong spot. Granted one was the yellow that was discontinued.

Oh man the transmission bolts are tricky. I can’t get the top one to start screwing and panicked for a bit. Was scared of adjusting height on the supporting jack but I have to try something. In the end it goes in and everything is fine.

@@MurphysLawGarageI'm a bit confused by this part though. If the transmission is supported by the floor jack shouldn't it have prevented that unwanted movement?

@@11blakex What did you do to get it aligned in the end, little bit of extra pressure from the jack to the transmission?

Just ordered the bushings for the lower torque mount and the upper engine mount. With a DCT, I do not think the transmission mount is a priority for me.

Nice - how are the vibrations on the steering wheel at idle? Would installing only the torque mount be vibrations free? Or what combo would you recommend best to avoid additional NVH? -THanks for the answers in advance!
@MurphysLawGarage7 ай бұрын
There was initially very little NVH from these bushings, but after some miles on the car there is no perceptible increase in NVH as they broke in. I would say you could do all of them with no concern.

Thin wall socket is needed Afterall? The one socket I don’t have 😩 for the upper mount just got it yesterday
@MurphysLawGarage9 ай бұрын
Not necessarily a specialty thin wall, you just cant use an impact socket or a cheap chrome socket because they tend to be thicker to make up for weaker metal.

I have a 2019 GT n Line and with the middle rubber insert that comes out, it seems to not seat correctly. Is the insert needed?

If its not seated properly it may be broken.
