I'm a former boxer who has his degree in kinesiology. I currently train a 12 year old amateur fighter who hyperextended his elbow to the point of needing a cast. He's been cleared to train but he's going through the mental apprehension of extending it. There's still a bit tightness and pain but this info is extremely helpful. Looking forward to carefully applying it later today. Thank you for the content 🙏🏾

Yes, there will be some apprehension for sure and you will start slowly - these drills will be important wiithin your progressions to restore the specific sequence of acceleration/deceleration of the arm/elbow

This is exactly the advice I needed rn. I've been practicing my straights over and over, and I began feeling pain in my elbow even though I was sure there weren't any faults in my form or technique. Turns out you can extend too much. Damn. Glad there's exercises for this though. Time to get a ball haha

Hi there! So happy this helped you! It can certainly be taxing on the elbows to do shadow boxing and it may just be the case that you took it up very quickly and your elbows just weren't ready for that stress. Or there might be technical elements to look at as well. either way, if you're having some pain, these exercises might help for sure! :)

Thanks for this. Took up VR boxing (TOTF) and I love it (amazing exercise). But all the punches I throw are misses and it only took a few weeks for my right elbow to start causing trouble.

Great video, thank you very much! I subscribed right away! I've been desperately trying to fix my ''tennis elbow'' for about a month now and get back to boxing in full force. These are definitely great exercises to include in my routines. Is there anything I should avoid at any cost while boxing with this condition please? Maybe other than over-extending the arm and throwing really heavy blows / doing heavy bag work with the sore arm? Or maybe the right question would be: as a person with high pain tolerance, what boxing techniques and bodyweight exercises in general would most likely be completely safe with my condition to keep myself strong while not making my injury worse? Any advice would be highly appreciated, thank you!

Hi there! It's hard to say without an assessment. Some of the exercises in this video might help, but it is always best to work with someone who can assess you and build a structured program based on your specific needs. You can find many professional (trainers and therapists) on our website under: Find a Specialist: rehab-u.com/find-a-specialist/. Hope that helps!

Can I continue doing boxing workout while doing these rehab exercises? If yes then should I do it before starting my boxing routine or after?
@rehab-umovementperformance
@rehab-umovementperformance 2 жыл бұрын
Well, it depends... I would say yes if you can manipulate your workout to avoid excessive or forceful hyperextension. This also depends on your level and the objective of your boxing workout. Then, if you do incorporate this, I would do them before the workout ;)

My elbow problem isn’t from hyperextension but from hitting. Jabbing over and over and over again. I injured my wrist and my elbow started to crack. It wasn’t such a big deal for years, but lately the pain is getting worse and worse. I feel this tension in my elbow and when i crack it it gets released but it hurts at the same time. I feel the wrist injury is connected with my cracking elbow and also my pain in the shoulder, which i also have.
@rehab-umovementperformance
@rehab-umovementperformance Жыл бұрын
There is a chance that the wrist pain is indeed related! I would get it checked out! Some of these exercises might help, but you'll be better with a personnalized plan!

@@rehab-umovementperformance i am 100% sure the wrist injury is connected to my elbow injury. Sometimes when my elbow popped i could feel the pain going all the way down to my wrist. The thing is i already checked everything. They x-rayed my wrist, they said its fine. They x-rayed my elbow, they said its fine. They can't see anything wrong with it and thats it, in their mind they have done the job. Doctors are the worst when it comes to sports injuries.

??? This is how I got injured (locking the elbow) , It is causing pain. How the same movement is going to help?
@rehab-umovementperformance
@rehab-umovementperformance Жыл бұрын
That really depends on who you are and what you need to do. For example, are you a boxer who needs to be able to get into extension in a rapid, explosive movement? Are you training in the gym and need to go back to controlled extended positions? How much residual laxity is there in the joint? Where are you in the rehab process and are we safe to start working on bringing you gently back into extended positions? The video is informative, and of course there are several individual factors to be considered. If you are not a trainer of therapist, it would be best to work with someone who can assess you and build the right rehab program for you

I feel like a jack ass I had a 2 hour crazy workout an hour on heavy bag then later after I got home I shadow boxed a little to work on my left hook form and THATs how I hurt my elbow. Shadow boxing...I think bc I was tired and about to go to bed I was over extending on the cross and jab woke up it is agony to try and fully extend my left arm. Only that motion though. It doesn't hurt to push with it or put weight on it. Just opening all the way

Might not be hyperextension related in that case! If the pain is on the medial or lateral side of the elbow could be more of a tendinopathy. Best get it assessed to be sure you have the right plan for your recovery 🙂

What do you think is wrong and suggest?

@@nikitaw1982 Can be tricky! I would say if it's medial elbow pain, a huge part of the process is going to be to give that elbow a little break from those specific stresses, if at all possible. With elbows, that's often the most important factor because otherwise you keep surpassing their tolerance. Strengthen and progressively re-expose to some valgus stress. I know that's large, but best general advice I can give you 🙂
