Hell, as a kid I would do these platform games where there were NO save points, so you had to start from the very beginning if you died. I don't know how I beat them, other than perhaps I didn't know what sex was, so I could concentrate for longer.

Fun fact: 60% of the views on this came from the search feature. I love this fight, and even this specific attack, I've had a lot of fun finding ways to avoid it and even punish it, but the fact that hundreds of thousands of people are out there searching for how to deal with it just proves to me that something went wrong here. Even after making this video, I'm genuinely not sure how fromsoft intended us to deal with this, I'm not even sure whether frostbite (which takes up 4/12 of the ways shown in this video) is intended as a method to avoid it as it only makes sense if you know how some of the underlying systems work. Otherwise, you might reasonably assume that you can poise break her out of it, or use a reasonably strong ash of war (like say, giant hunt) to knock her out but that's just not true.

Like Malekith and the Blasphemous Claw, they should've let you to parry it preferably with an item, that would incentivize people to actually try out a mechanic of the game that they normally won't. Besides it make perfect sense to punish the boss spamming attacks by timing a precise parry that'd result in certain death if you miss it. A riposte isn't even necessary, just shutting down the attack is a good enough reward. High Risk High Reward.

1:22 Blood flies does decent poise damage. I used it against her alongside Eleonoras + godskin peeler powerstancing and it absolutely melted her first phase, she often gets knocked out of waterfowl by the flies, which move slow enough that they often catch her one or two at a time while you're engaging her. Not so simple phase 2, but by then her waterfowl is less of a problem compared to that fucken rot ghost shit she does.

The reason she is knocked out is because bleed procs have the same thing as frost procs and stun everything out of their current action regardless of poise and hyperarmor.

Phase 2 use the blood flies as soon as you're out of the range of her scarlet aeonia. The recovery on that attack is like 5-8 seconds so if you time it right and spam it you can slam her with 2-3 bleeds off the flies alone

I know of another way. She can't spam this attack, and only does it after a certain time. So you fight for a few moments and then you back away, and throw a knife or another projectile to start the attack. If she's ready, she will jump and start it even if you're half the arena away. Then you're good for thirty seconds or so. If you're good with timing, you can bait all the waterfowls that way.

This is only true for phase 1 though, in phase 2 I believe she can actually start the attack at any point. Still though this is very useful for phase 1

I usually just tank all of it with the jellyfish Shield while backing up, then just roll from the last flurry. I was super surprised it worked when I first tried it. With full/almost full stamina I didn't even take any damage at 30 endurance. Even If it breaks your guard, it's usually still survivable too as long as it doesn't break on the 1st or 2nd flurry, unless maybe your vigor is way under leveled. That's by far the easiest possible way I have found to deal with it. It completely trivialized it and made waterfowl totally free. So if anyone's struggling, try that, it works like a charm, and it's stupidly simple. Also, I assume other great Shields work too? I just happened to use jelly boy.

My tactic with medium roll was to keep an eye on her and never over compromise too much. When she went up, I did Run away -> roll into the next attack -> roll sideways (usually right) -> roll back. The big problem everybody has is she starting the attack when she is very close, but even then the run away+ jump always guaranteed, if not a no damage, at least just a little

Tip for bloodhound and quick step bloodhound/quickstep into a roll dodge syncs and works faster than using consecutive bloodhound/quicksteps helps a lot

Rannis Dark moon can be used to interrupt the attack with frost build up. In fact, you can actually just spam it at her from afar and she is unable to effectively dodge it due to its slow travel speed and heavy tracking. If you have the Infinite FP physick she really can't do anything, you can honestly cheese her by doing that.

I went with vow of the indomitable on my first playthrough. I had been looking for something to use it on since I found it. It's still my favorite option since it's entirely reliant on somewhat precise timing rather than positioning, so it provides a similar sense of challenge as dodge rolling delayed attacks. You actually can all of the first and second flurries with VotI, but the window is very tight, probably only a few frames. I tended to just tank the last 1 or 2 hits instead of dodging them so that I have an easier time dodge rolling towards her for the last flurry, but I now realize how silly I was for not just blocking them instead. Whatever, they actually did almost no damage.

Sometimes you’ll take a bit of chip damage, but it beats getting absolutely shredded by running away too late. Then she’ll dash past you on the third one. I stopped running or dodging away entirely

Probably somebody already mentioned this, but she only does Waterfowl within certain HP ranges. You can just get her to those ranges, get distance on her (but don't go so far away that she won't attack), then run in the direction away from her once she goes in the air. The big arena is a huge boon here.

It seems you need to unlock, and then walk/run towards her, roll forward, then roll in the opposite direction of where she is. But I wasn't able to reproduce it when I tried. Any extra info on the timing, lock, unlock, direction of roll, etc. would be very helpful.

You need to unlock, move towards her then roll twice forward to the left of her (11/10 o'clock) to dodge the first flurry as soon as she moves her sword arm. dodging the other two flurries is pretty straight forward, you can dodge in the same directions i did or if you're fast enough you can lock the camera again and dodge them like normal. kzbin.infoYxvM4QL8Mkk?feature=share this video goes over this specific method a bit more thoroughly, do note that this is probably the single hardest method here so it's not too practical but it's arguably the most stylish/skillful.

Thanks! I'm able to roll the first one now but I'm too used to roll the next two while locked, and I'm too slow to get a lock before I get destroyed. I guess spamming roll backwards as soon as you see her go up, might be the strategy when you suck :) I also tried to imitate what 'Let me solo her' does but unsuccessfully. The circle around method, if you time it perfectly, catapults you away from her while locked,. You only need to roll once, and then it becomes very easy to avoid all hits. Unfortunately I'm still only able to pull it off around 20% of the time. Great video, thanks again.

How does the run and jump at close range work, do you need light load, do you need the "step back jump" or can you straight up run at close range, or is the timing on the jump just hard?

Light load doesn't affect running speed of jumping so no you don't need it. The backstep was an accident on my part, but I used this clip to show just how forgiving the window for when you should start running actually is. So yeah, you just run away and jump, jumps give s to the lower half of your body so you should time it like you would time a dodge roll (right before she would have hit you). I don't know how to explain it further but I'll say that I do think it's one of the easier ones to time right.

Making her have the high ground sometimes works...I know but hear me out. For some reason when I corner her or she corners me if we're on any sort of elevation she stops her flow almost immediately I don't know why. It could be something else but usually we're on a little bump in the arena when it happens. Almost like she's afraid of going any higher than her flow.

Yeah this is because the game thinks she's falling when she's doing it at a more elevated position so it just interrupts the attack animation Malenia moves around a lot though, especially in her second phase, you can't really do this consistently. So it's more of a lucky thing you can have every now and then rather than a proper method.

Many people dont know but Malenia, blade of Miquella is a puzzle boss, you see... most hard bosses have a gimmic that makes them hard and then easy, Maliketh can be parried on his most powerful attack, ironically mogh is weak to bleeding, the fire giant has a weak leg, so on and so on, so! Malenia, blade of Miquella is the strongest boss in all elden ring due to a great list of special attacks that deal even greater dps, and most importantly she can use a hyper armor avoid dash any time she gets damage that can conect with a hyper armor attack as well, so the unbeatable strat to not die at Malenia, blade of Miquella is not fighting Malenia, blade of Miquella, 100% chance of success, Malenia, blade of Miquella is an optional boss and you get nothing but runes and the chance to get her armor, which is pretty looking but not the best armor set like general chadanns's, and her special waterflow attack which can be easily avoided by most pvp-ers and that will get you killed in PvE, and who you gonna fight with that? Elphael is one of the last areas in the game, there is not much left to do in you build to switch into malenia, blade of Miquella's hand now, is it?

They really screwed this boss over by making her annoying to fight. Really confused as to why spamming roll away from her works way better than running. Has her tracking gotten nerfed at any point? I swear you had to be a good distance away to reliably avoid the first flurry. Seeing you do this at what I considered the "put your controller down, its already over" distance right in her face is mind boggling. I only beat her once and that was by using ROB and Mimic Tear. We both just spammed the weapon art. I got lucky on the successful attempt because me and Mimic started the WA at the same time in phase 2. She somehow didn't do WF a single time during the second part. It was still close though. I thought I was about to die as I was doing the attack and had already given up in my mind until I realized she died. Hated this boss, didn't get an ounce of satisfaction from """"""beating"""""" her.

as far as I know, you can only poise break her while she's jumping before she reaches her resting position in the air, that's not enough time to do two jumping attacks but if you had done enough poise damage to her previously for your next attack to break her poise then you could probably do this, though this would require you to be incredibly close to her when she starts it and have frame perfect reaction time wouldn't try it really

@@sugarpoyon2077 yeah - to be clear what staggers her is the status effect not poise break, I don't know how it works but, the bloodflies seem to have a property that works similarly (it has the exact same animation as a status effect interrupt) and is seemingly independent from the bleed build up, it's what stops her at 1:20

I think the light roll forward strat also works for medium rolls as well I saw someone one twitter pull it off. They did it the exact same way you did it for the light roll only they had a medium load. I thought they were gonna get annihilated but they took no dmg from the first flurry its probably really hard to do but its the first time I've seen someone roll through it like that.

I figured out lightrolling on the first part, it's the circling around and slicing more bit that gets me but does not kill me

When she gets around 2/3rds and 1/5th health in the 1st phase I just run away and bait it with a throwing knife. After she dodges a knife she will often perform waterfowl at a distance too far for the 1st flurry to pose any threat. After that she'll go a while without using the attack unless you try to space her too often. In the 2nd phase I often just pray she doesn't use it.

Hey guys, i think her FWD got buffed. Im in NG+2 and her combo is now track the player more precisely. Previously, I always succeed running away from her first Flurry even if im late to recover, but now i have to keep a good distance to dodge the 1st one safely.

If you have a high enough bleed build up and you hit her at the right time, the bleed proc knocks her completely out of the attack

I could be wrong but as far as I know Status effect defenses don't increase with higher ng cycles, poise health does increase though.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the light roll works so well after 1.09. It's still possible because I just did it, but I would say it's now "hard" rather than reliable. My first character, who had a shield, only took about 10 attempts to beat her. My second, who is no shield and light roll, is having a hard time of it. Probably on 200+ deaths, 195+ of which are to waterfall dance.

Another option if you're on mid roll and are badly placed when she starts the waterfowl is to time your roll well in order to avoid some damage of the first flurry, then roll towards her to avoid the second and roll away from her to avoid the third one. If you have enough health to survive the first attack you are pretty much guaranteed to survive this way.

i haven’t beaten her 😢 but every time i get past the first phase i do spend a good amount of time with her stun locked trying to unleash this attack. if you land a few good attacks she’ll stop, jump back, and try again.

They both work similarly by exploiting her tracking in a certain direction But to say they're the same is a bit disingenuous, you don't need to run to her and actually circle around her if you're using BHS/Quickstep. You can literally just stand there as long as you dodge in the correct direction and time it correctly, it is much easier.

@@clankymocha Yeah. Yet, I found out that it doesn't need circling around anyways. At least with light roll, you can do the circling around thing but without running or unlocking. Basically rolling her behind from her left is pretty enough to get through first attack.

@@dsuable_ yeah I only very recently found out that you can literally just light roll to the left the same way I use BHS here, I'm not even sure whether this was possible when this video was made, it wasn't on release Circling around remains one of the best strategies for midroll, but I've always found it to be very janky/unintuitive so I didn't include it.

I beat her by just staying well away and using Ranni's dark moon to wear her down. She doesn't dodge it and it does the same thing as the frost pot sometimes. Don't judge 😒

My strat when beating this move first time: Block first combo, Dodge Back for 2nd Combo, Dodge forward for 3rd combo. If too far away, run like hell 👍
