My personal theory is that Placidusax is waiting for the return of the Great One that Hyetta mentions after taking the frenzied flame, and that this great one was the combination of the Greater Will and frenzied flame before the greater will decided to split. Possibly dragons and beastmen were the subjects of the Great One, as there are several references to five fingers/digits signifying their old order that gave them intelligence (Cinquedea's description, the fingers on elder dragons vs ones in the lands between, Placidusax's heads before being chopped off), and the envoys of the greater will and frenzied flames are two and three fingers respectively.

That's an excellent detail to notice about Erudition, the Glintstone Crowns, and Astel's theme. The entire practice of Glintstone sorcery might be inadvertently making the sorcerers become pawns of interstellar beings and, based on the Graven Masses being "star seeds", eventual raw materials to make the bodies of Astels.
@Pattabazza2 жыл бұрын
Actually Astels are very likely the TRUE adult form of a Fallingstar Beast since the 'full grown' Fallingstar Beast has an Astel skull peeking out from the fur stuff on it's head AND the same pincers as an Astel the idea is that a Fallingstar Beast lands and grows until it starts developing the skull at which point it burrows underground until it finds a large open space and becomes a Malformed Star, and then it hangs from the cavern ceiling until it develops into a full Astel

Those whistling notes are actually a proper musical space from each other such that it's not just a random note change. It sounds to me like the crown was a 5th up from the base crown less note. A Root note and its fifth up ("Do" and "Sol" together) are commonly known as a power chord in rock music. This discovery makes me wonder if the other crowns make different tones that are in scale. Then, assuming they do, I would wonder what scale they make up as a whole and see what we can glean from that. Could be something as simple as, the crowns make tones which when put together comprise the scale of other music present in the game (maybe Raya Lucarias music, Caria Manors, or Liurnia as a whole), or maybe it would allude to something more significant 🧐

There is a rather interesting theory of there being even more demigods, who, based on some circumstances, remain soulless and inside the Walking Mausoleums. Out of all the lore pieces, this was something that got my interest the most during my playthrough. There are at least four direct in-game references to soulless demigods: -Eclipse Crest Heater Shield (note the plural in the description) -Mausoleum Surcoat (again, note the plural in the description) -Lhutel the Headless description text -A ghost, who you can interact with in the Weeping Peninsula, staring at the Wandering Mausoleum. If there is one person, who carries the title "Soulless demigod", that would be Godwyn the Golden. However, now the game mentions more than one as it refers to demigods. It is unlikely this is just some translation error since FS has put at least four separate hints of this in the game, each with different dialogues. However, it could be of use to have someone who could read japanese to verify that the english and japanese descriptions/dialogues are telling the same story. For further analysis, theory and speculation, see the entirety of the following posts: www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/tzg8dk/theory_on_the_walking_mausoleums_and_soulless/ www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/ukqpm0/the_mausoleums_cannot_contain_soulless_demigods/ This would be a good theory to include. The placidusax theory is interesting considering the implication of their possibly being more heads previously. There are depictions of him having four heads in the Old Lord's Talisman. Though it could also be argued that he had even more heads due to the stumps apparent on his body, you can spot three. Though they are tiny and look almost randomly placed, similar to the growths seen on Omen. Does placidusax losing his heads symbolise his conformity to the Golden Order in a desperate attempt to have his god return? Similar to how Morgott removes his horns because of how they are shunned by the Golden Order?
@crocadoc22 жыл бұрын
I was just about to mention the head stumps aswell, I noticed them on my last playthrough when I fought him and immediately though of the similarities. It can even connect to how the two fingers are separated from the three fingers, and what possible implications that could have on the three severed heads. I think it would be really interesting if those three heads made some kinda appearance in a dlc, either as a weird boss fight possibly influenced by shibriri, or maybe they're turning to wood similar to how the two fingers do when they die. The dragon head temple in Crumbling Farum Azula is one of the clear explanations on what became of Placudisax. The Godskins. They have incantations that have the ability to slay gods, and seemingly skin said gods and wear them as apparel. But what if you can't skin it? Then you do something else with the corpse of the dead God. Placidusax is already dead, passed away, or in the middle of the tornado, is time frozen still. He seemed to be a Hydra, a three headed drake beast, but whetr is the third head gone? It was cut off by the Godskins in their attempts to slay him, possibly froze time in a certain area indefinitely until he recieved a message from the Greater Will. The dragon head lays dormant in the Dragon Head Temple.

I'm not sure if this would be considered as a discovery or not, but in Beast Clergyman's/Maliketh's theme there is a constant attention to bells ringing. When we fight him we bring back death itself to the Lands Between after he's defeated. Bells back then were often used as signs to calling attention however, also, were often used as grave warnings for oncoming disasters. In his theme you can often hear bells in the distance and considering what we are in Crumbling Farum Azula for, it helps set the tension of the overall fight itself. In his theme, although a little hard to hear through speakers, setting the volume decently high whether in game or on any device, at 3:48 (phase 2) the final bell tolls. Signaling that the greatest disaster has essentially crashed landed. The rest of his theme is a desperate tragedy greatly enhancing that this is Maliketh's final stand and opportunity to protect Destined Death (and of course Marika) itself and when we kill him, we see the aftermath of the grave warning the bells tolled in his theme prior. Anyways, I don't know if this holds extra merit but I thought it was a nice little detail that is often looked over. Edit: filled in some missing words. Was half asleep when I wrote this a bit ago.

Slight inaccuracy: the Sun Realm shield can drop from skeletons in Limgrave as well (confirmed drop locations: under the bridge in Agheel Lake, and in the graves outside Summonwater Village.) Elden ring's biggest theme is "only the victor's write history". Countless civilizations forgotten, ways of life buried and destroyed, the concept of death forgotten and locked away, the first Elden Lord a Dragon purposely erased by the Greater Will. All so the only thing the people of the Lands In-between know is the "grace" of the Erdtree and the Greater Will's control via it's vassal; Queen Marika. In Farum Azula there is a repeated carving in stone; a woman holding a baby and a man separate from them, but sometimes all together. This has intent. This is Queen Marika holding her first born child and her first husband/ consort/ love. The baby in her arms is/ becomes the Gloam-Eyed Queen when Marika is turned into a god ( just like Radagon's children they became demigods retroactively). Queen Marika's half-brother is Maliketh, his family and himself were beastmen. Who ruled over Farum Azula. And just like Game of Thrones style; one of Marika's parents married one of the beastmen leaders to bring union and peace to both their peoples. It was an act out of necessity. And as you play through Elden Ring you find constant reminders of ways of life that existed before the Erdtree and the Greater Will. "Only the victor's write history". I also think Ranni is a puppet, and her design of being an actual puppet is SUPER intended. Because when she is turned into the little doll, leading up to the Baleful Shadow fight. She has this weird, very out of character dialogue “The name of Ranni the Witch has already been sullied by thee.” She says it very out of character, as if it's someone else entirely. I believe when she did the death ritual with herself and Godwynn this allowed the Gloam-Eyed Queen's soul into the Ranni puppet body as well as Ranni's soul. And that line of dialogue is the Gloam-Eyed Queen's temper lashing out. How would Ranni (a cold witch) know anything about death, let alone rituals. And to acquire the aid of Numen women assassins is odd. She was instructed via the Gloam-Eyed Queen, manipulated by her first-born older sister. Ranni makes a comment about how she feels odd in this little puppet form and it's making her speak too much, and to "forget about it". Which is a huge theme of Elden Ring. To forget the past, and act like nothing was there before. Ghost Flame (death) is Cold and Fire. Ranni is cold, Melina is Fire. Two halves of the same coin. Which is another major theme of Elden Ring.

The interval between the whistles and in astel's theme is a major second, it’s an incredibly common interval and I would argue that it doesn’t necessarily represent the cosmos. If you listen to modern pop music a very common motif in choruses is for the singer to hold a major second above the root of the scale before resolving to the root. It's also in the menu theme of Elden Ring.

But every time I heard that Erudition whistle, it reminded me of hearing Torrent's whistle (or him crying out) in the distance, before slowly fading out, when Melina reaches down and grabs it during the Frenzied Flame ending. Bums me out lol.

I wonder if that whistle could be a connection to the spirit realm. After all, the spirits come and go by blue light similar to glintstone

In japanese, the description of Placidusax's remembrance says that he's waiting for his god to return. The "god" is the same kanji as Marika's. So he's not waiting for an outer god but for his spouse!

I am fairly certain that the reason that erudition is shown through sound, is because sound has special cosmic properties in Elden Ring. The Nox studied the knowledge of sound to fuel their experiments, one of them leading to be decimated by Astel, as it responded to the sound they produced and paid them a visit. So, sound is very closely related to the cosmos in the game and you are attuning yourself to the cosmos like a radio beacon when you do the gesture.

I’m curious how you came the the conclusion that nox studied sound and lured astel im not denying it I just haven’t ever heard that before
@mayhemivory57302 жыл бұрын
i must‘ve missed that, where does it state they were studying sound?

I think the sound when you do the gesture is your character exerting power from their mind based on intelligence

One more cool (probably non-intentional) music detail I noticed: The first two notes of Limgrave are the same two first pitches of Astel's theme in reverse order. I like to believe that with Limgrave, the notes ascend because that's the only room to go, up. However, Astel descends because he descended into the lands between from the sky.

I think, regarding godfreys cut dialogue, that it could be a case of dual identity. Godfrey has two sides, First Elden Lord, and Hoarah Loux. I think in his duty as elden lord, he protects the erdtree and elden ring, but once he sheds his lordly persona to really fight you as hoarah loux, he then shows what he really wants

I absolutely love Dark Souls and a big part of what keeps me hooked on Elden Ring is that very shield that drops from the skeletons. I like to think Dark Souls and Elden Ring are connected in some way.

The dragons seem to have once worshipped the 5 fingers or something akin to it. Placidusax used to have 5 heads, everything farum azula related makes reference to how five fingers represents the evolution of beasts unto a higher form of intelligence. The Cinqueda, in every way confirms this alongside beast incantations. And I do believe that the dragons especially worshipped or acknowledged the importance of the 5 fingers in great respect. Just look at the cutscene for Placi. Why specifically did it focus onto his noticeable 5 digit hand? From this we can assume something. The five fingers represented the original order of the world when something split them asunder. Perhaps the two fingers that represent order, and the three fingers that represent chaos. Together they would bring true balance, or represent it as such.
@nathanwilens56112 жыл бұрын
Can you elaborate on the farum azula five finger references?
@Xarxes_2 жыл бұрын
@@nathanwilens5611 absolutely. The Cinquedea is named in reference to a real life short sword of the same name that is named that way due to the shape of the blade to the guard. Cinquedea, translated to English literally means "Five Fingers." The design of said blade is in the exact same style as Faraam Azula's architecture as well as sports a five finger design at the base of the blade. The item description gives connection of Faraam Azula to the beast incantations directly. "Short sword given to high ranking clergymen of Farum Azula. Raises potency of bestial incantations. The design celebrates a beast's five fingers, symbolic of the intelligence once granted upon their kind." Farum Azula is mostly populated by beastmen, adhering to the designs of beastmen corpses/statues on pillars and Beastmen skeletons/carvings of said skeletons in the various walls and flooring of the area. I'm more inclined to believe that the beastmen do in fact bury their dead in these mounds due to the way we enter Placi's arena. We know the beastmen have some kind of connection with ancient dragons beyond just having the same home. It's even more likely that in the beginning of the Ancient Dragon's rise with their version of the Elden Ring (seen in Maliketh's boss room above a very interesting statue of a woman with three wolves), that both took part in building Farum Azula and were an active society of beastmen and dragons, as the beastmen are seen utilizing red lightning, which explicitly is stated by ancient dragon incantations in game that is a sign of deep love from the dragons. There may even be something interesting to take away from the dragoncrest shield talisman that says the dragons use their own stony bodies to protect their lord. It's possible, but just speculation that they don't just guard the lord literally, but MIGHT be what Faruum Azula's walls are made of, as dragons are either entirely made of stone or turn into complete stone when dead as seen at dragon communion sights, but that's just a guess on my part. In conclusion, the beastmen of Farum Azula rose to intelligence and sapience due to the intelligence given to them by something, perhaps an outer god or the "Marika" of said outer god, who Placi most likely waits for due to being an elden lord himself. This being/person may have given intelligence to the beastmen via the will of their god for whatever reason they had in doing so, which is what I believe is being depicted in Maliketh's boss room beneath their old depiction of the elden ring. Another heavy connection are the shadows of empyreans. Beastmen given to them as guards and wardens. The Two-fingers are directly mentioned in their complete control of them, whether they be the death-wielding baleful shadow assassins or the Empyrean shadows. Perhaps in conquering the lands between, at the end of the dragon's age, maybe the greater will split the five fingers and made use of the two that could completely control these special beastmen. Sorry for the super long elaboration and speculation.

I just realised Erudition might be a way to explain to stars/Primeval Current that we're actually sentient, kind of like Make Contact in Bloodborne.
@sighpie6312 жыл бұрын
It is heavily implied through Melina's lore dialogue that Marika may have had a plan in mind to break free from the influence of the Greater Will, and that her sending Godfrey away under the guise of exile from the Lands Between. Perhaps something occurred in some faraway lands that led to him and the tarnished (who were similarly spurned by the grace of gold) to become capable of uniting the shards of the elden ring. Either way, it would seem that he's back to fulfil the final part of Marika's plan, much like how we have different ways to restore the elden ring after defeating the elden beast. It seems to me that his fight with us before entering the Erdtree is so that he can complete the plan and help the lands between break free of the Greater Will's influence, but upon being defeated by us, believes that we can achieve the same thing, in our own way (e.g. Age of Stars ending, etc). Hence, some of his voicelines are more encouraging and positive.

Godfrey’s voice lines sound like they were for sound test purposes but who knows. And the lack of mentioning the Sun in the lore is SO suspect to me. It exists, it’s just faded and dwarfed by the Erdtree. So a random mention for the Seat of the Sun definitely raises some eyebrows.
@puzzleheaded61952 жыл бұрын
It definately is suspect but it’s intentional because Fromsoft is very good at making you forget about it, even though the sun is meant to be strongest representation of Gold in game heavily themed by Alchemy. My best guess is it’s referring to Farum Azula, with the heir being Godwyn. There are implications that the Golden Order did not start with Godfrey. It began in the Crucible, the age before the Edrtree. The fact that Maliketh is a high rank, BeastClergymen, and the shadowbound of Marika suggests she had a religious affiliation with Farum. Gravel Stone Seal- “ Sacred seal made from Gravel Stone thought to be an ancient dragon scale. Enhances Dragon Cult incantations of the Royal Capital. The worship of the ancient dragons does not conflict with belief in the Erdtree. After all, this seal, and lightning itself, are both imbued with gold.” Godwyn also founded the ancient dragon cult which, judging from the prayer book being found in Farum Azula, began there. It reads: Ancient Dragon book Prayerbook - “Prayerbook of the capital's ancient dragon cult. A lost tome that never reached the Lands Between. Contains red lightning incantations.” Farum Azula seems to work under its own hemisphere since the Sun is constantly present and stuck in a stasis most notably seen in the Great Bridge leading to Maliketh, also sharing similarities to the Eternal Cities with its Architecture hanging below ground. Marika’s Hammer - “Stone hammer made in the lands of the Numen, outside the Lands Between. The tool with which Queen Marika shattered the Elden Ring and Radagon attempted to repair it. The hammer partially broke upon shattering the Ring, becoming splintered with rune fragments.” The “denizens of another world” text found on the Numen Rune could very much refer to Farum Azula, with Marika being depicted with what looks like a dragon/serpent tail behind her in her statues. It even has traces of gold mimicking similar to the Ancient Dragons. The Mimics Veil is even called “Marika’s Mischief”. All this paints the Numens(Ancient Dragons) as the the shapeshifting counterparts to the Silver Tears, except Gold. Lannseax was a able to do this, I’ve heard Fortissax in the form of Fia, and Godwyn himself. It’s the only explanation as why we see two different versions of him(in game and story trailer). In the Deeproot Depths, the Finger Reader Crone refers to him as “Lord Godwyn - a Scion of the Golden bough” The word bough translates to a main part of a tree or in this case “true lineage”. In the Japanese text, the same npc calls Godwyn the “Prince of Gold”, The heir to the Seat of the Sun aka Farum Azula(evidence being Destined Death being sealed there, all the Beastmen using the Sun Realm Shield(Edit: Wrong, just the skeletal ones) and of course the Sun being constantly present). Godrick, in his boss fight dialogue he claims: “Mighty Dragon, thou'rt a trueborn heir. Lend me thy strength, o kindred. Deliver me unto greater heights.” Anything related to the dragons is and was considered divine at one point until everything crucible related had been shunned from history. Godwyn has a heavy association with dragons and it’s said he wielded “Golden” Lightning which can even be seen in the Placidusax fight. Death Lightning Description- Incantation that channels the power of the ancient dragon Fortissax, now corrupted by Death.Strikes surroundings with a storm of Death lightning.Inflicts Death blight upon foes.Charging extends duration of the storm.It said that this golden lightning was wielded by Godwyn, whobefriended Fortissax.“ All of this paints a theme of Gold vs Silver, One Eternal City(Seat of the Sun) vs another(Seat of the Moon). The only other one that fits that bill is Ranni and it’s for this reason after you put the two halfwheels together and brandish the Elden Ring that the Eclipse finally happens(Duskborn ending).

Godfrey’s is nice and all but Mogh’s cut dialogue is the best we’ve ever got. It’s a shame that in the final product he just counts down from three instead of six.

So Margot and mohgs shackles interact witha dn reveal illusory walls. I think this might somewhat well known but maybe less known is that it also interacts with the imp pillars that go up or down. Since the range is long in the dungeon where you can get che chariots to crash into eachother, you can do so without going through the entire dungeon. Making a particularly unloved place easy. Save the dual crucible knight fight at the end

Godfrey is not protecting the Erdtree. He is in his own Tarnished path to become Elden Lord, just like us. He is also a Tarnished revived by the Grace racing to become Elden Lord, like Guideon or us with no name. His name is also mentioned in the intro along all the Tarnished that were revived for this task. You can even see in the cutscene he is following the guidance of grace, but in his case the guidance of grace is pointing towards us, as if we are the boss of that fight, and he is the player.
@thevikingbear23432 жыл бұрын
What happened that Grace did not predict is that of all the Tarnished revived for this, only Godfrey, Guideon and us follow the path. All the other Tarnished like the Dung Eater or Fia decided to ignore the guidance of Grace and do their own thing. You might say that Goldmask was also following the guidance of Grace but he was taking the Gandhi approach.

I think the Helphen Steeple sword is depicting a coniferous tree. If you look at the way the spikes and the way they are styled and draped, look a bit like bowing branches. The interwoven pattern towards the base of the blade looks almost like bark. If you notice, all of the ghostly trees in the mountaintops are conifers. Conifers are also older than deciduous trees irl. Don't get me wrong, the blade definitely looks Cathedral-like but i think it fits the spirit of Elden ring for a cathedral or tomb to be a tree itself.
