For anyone who is having trouble still with messmer try using Ashes Of War Raptor Of The Mist on the new hammer in shadow of erd tree the hammer that those black knight with a great shield uses. The 2nd messmer jumps up high and smack down on the floor use the raptor of the mist where u jump up and do a heavy smack down. Easy kill took me 15 times to figure it out the hammer break poise pretty often from what I noticed. Hope it helps. And this ashes of war also works on commander gaius the boss riding on a boar.

why do we only see him rage for messmer and not radahn? Messmer was a baby compared to Radahn, you only needed to learn 2 movesets and the rest you could dodge on instinct, making him a very fair solo fight. Most fun and well designed boss in the entire dlc, whereas Radahn took me over 10 hours to solo because you have to memorize almost everything he does

Messmer was meant to be difficult, you have to adapt to his moveset, and stop thinking you can beat him by yourself while being new to the game.. you can't, that's why you summon npcs to help. That's what they are there for.
