For example, you say Marika shattered the Elden Ring in defiance of the Greater Will while Radagon tried to restore it, implying that he is still loyal to the Greater Will. As a Tarnished, you've been tasked by the Greater Will to restore the Elden Ring. Why would Radagon and the Elden Beast fight such a person? I would think Marika would fight you instead.

Marika is the one who awakens you with her grace. She is still a god and trapped in the tree and still has influence. You are to get the Elden ring and be Elden Lord for her. Though your character decides the fate of the Elden ring. Thing of the Elden ring like a more complex infinity gauntlet sent to earth by the greater will and controls aspects of reality

@@Andy-qf1kc I don't think this is supported by any lore as far as I know, but I always headcanon Melina as an aspect of Marika's consciousness that has managed to escape being bound within the Erdtree. Hence her being able to have the runes you find/gather strengthen you, is non-corporeal, and is willing to burn the Erdtree

Like they couldn't of used more npc, time travel, cutscenes, or etc. Like they water hose you at the beginning and really don't elaborate much as else, even the darksouls games I pretty much had an understanding of who I was, what my goal was, and who most these dudes I was killing were and why I was killing them.

I too prefer my storytelling to be more clear, but this has become FromSoft's USP, people don't(/shouldn't) really go to FS games for story-driven games, they come for the combat, design, and atmosphere.

I spent a good few hours way back 9 months ago when I first finished the game, trying to make sense of Elden Ring's plot, and deciding which unknown bits to headcanon and how. My girlfriend now wants to play Elden Ring and will surely have lots of questions, so I'm refreshing myself on the lore and story explanation. This video beats any others out there hands down - it's chronological, it's clear, and manages to condense the ridiculous amount of lore down to that which is actually necessary and plot-relevant (goodbye crucible knight jargon)! Knowing which bits of lore to bother with and which aren't necessary or plot-relevant must have taken so long, so thank you NGN!

I love the lore jump of "the burning of the tree was enough to have the tarnished hero transported to a region called Crumbling Farum Azula". That's a very generous way of saying "they just started teleporting you around and it makes little sense." And where was Godfrey this entire time - a tarnish who was still exiled, I presume. Why go back and fight for or defend the order that booted you out? Also, if you're there to repair the ring, wouldn't that be what the Elden Beast wants? I thought Elden Beast was the representation of the greater will, and the greater will is who trapped Marika & Radagon inside the Erdtree. I don't fully understand why it fights you (lore wise...).

The "Pushed to the Brink" part of this video makes its sound like Marika and Radagon were two separate beings, but once the "Greater Will" imprisoned them they combined. Marika was also destroying the Elden Ring while Radagon was trying to fix it. By the time our tarnished burns the tree and goes through Marika has complete control because Radagon attacks you even though he was doing the same thing our tarnished was sent to do which is fixing the Elden Ring so Radagon would have had no reason to attack the tarnished.

Overall, great video. A few questions that I've been wondering. How did Marika give Malekath the rune of death before the Elden Ring was shattered? And how does Ranni steal just a shard of this rune? If Marika and Radagon are the same person by this point, why would Marika shatter the Ring and then Radagon immediately try to repair it?

Marika, Radagon, and the Elden Beast are at least a loosely formed analogy to the Christian Holy Trinity. They share a spirit/soul but are individuals with their own motivations.

kinda late but whatever hope it helps 1/2) marika basically took a piece from the whole elden ring. let's stay I have a picture made of many images, I can take out one of these images without destroying the whole picture, although it being altered, which is how marika took out the rune of death from the bigger rune that is the elden ring, instead, she later destroyed the whole picture. as for ranni, the she took one piece of the images that create the picture, basically a piece of a piece. 3) marika and radagon are two absolutely individual entities, you can see this very obviously but radagon personality, such as his passion for knowledge or how he actually loved rennala (golden order greatsword), making them fight during the shatter.

Got the second of them down to a few hits know I can beat it, but man the pacing of this game towards the end just dragged on, the annoyance of having to travel from the sites to the boss room beat the one boss which I know I can do every time but hopefully not waste items etc etc point is they could have chopped 1/3 of this game and used the stakes of Marika so much better.
