So spend a bunch of time leveling one summon; one, for one fight; one? Sounds like a waste.

Why is it only for one boss? Several are weakened by the rot. I had used it on a few early bosses in the game. That dog summon is just the easiest to get early game. The dragon breathe is the better rot weapon but it will take more time than just simply picking up the summon.
