POSSIBLE FIX FOR PC FRAME RATE All credit goes to /u/Phish777 Exit the game. Go to your windows bar and search "graphics". Click on "Graphics Settings". Choose desktop app and click "browse". Search through your drive for the EldenRing.exe and set the options to "High performance". Start the game. edit: I also disabled steam overlay for the game, and chose to run Steam itself on high performance, too. edit2: For increased frame rate: just set the global "Shader Cache Size" setting in NVIDIA Control Panel to "Unlimited": {LINK REMOVED} -credit u/bobasaurus edit3: more stuttering fixes: Windows key + X -> device manager -> software devices -> right click disable Microsoft Device Association Root Enumerator - credit u/CrossbowJohnson Another thing you can try is changing windows power plan to balanced - from /u/evilmirai

The card might be old but this is the first game that's made me worried about running it. Glad to see its doing ok, think I'll pick up Elden Ring later today.

dude im playing at my 7yr old laptop with gtx 970m and its still playable with minimum 30fps - high 50, so 970 would rock this game

Guess it's time to get a new CPU, I'm running a really old Xeon e3-1230 v2 (i7-3770). On medium I get 40-50 fps with drops down to 35 fps on 1080p. I've been reluctant to upgrade since the thing has been perfectly fine with all the other games I have. But I know I had to upgrade eventually.

There's really no worthwhile CPU upgrades for that socket. I have an i7-3770k (best one you can get for the socket) and it's just not feasible. I think you'd be better off overclocking your current CPU or just going with an entirely new build.

Thanks for the test. I think I'll play it on high settings with the fps locked at 30. Is there a way to lock the fps in game or I'll have to use an external software?

Just use RivaTuner, it makes the game way smoother, something to do with frametimes, I don't know. I always use it. Right now I'm playing God Of War locked at 40 fps on my GTX 970 and it's very smooth.

I'm considering the same thing. Basically using quality mode equivalent on consoles. My 970 is old, but locked 30fps with decent graphics is prob better than a shaky 60fps looking like a switch game.

@@phant0mdummy So, I played a bit, about an hour. I have an i5 4690k, GTX 970, 16 GB Ram. I locked it at 45 fps on High settings and in the open world it's pretty stable at 45 fps, sometimes it drops to 42, it never dropped below 40 so far but we'll see later on. Edit : a couple more hours in, it runs just fine at Maximum settings 40 fps.

I have a 970, all other requirements i exceed. Frame rate isn’t bad but keep getting weird glitches with lighting, loads of rectangles block my screen, have u had this too?

Thanks, nice video man, I'm a bit concerned with the temperature, looks like you need to replace the thermal paste, gtx 970 should be able to run below 70°C at maximum, mine was at 60-65°C model asus strix 970.

nah, with newer games now an average temp of 70-85°C is perfectly normal, a quick google search will also explain the same thing. Especially with a game that is constantly loading what the character is looking at. :)

@@BlackMagiik well i never tried the newest 2022 games, but with horizon zerodawn, cyberpunk and death stranding my gtx 970 never hit 68 degree, i use grizzly kryonaut paste and propably good airflow also matter.

@@skywinder8837 that’s also probably very true! I know i’m playing on a gtx970m and when i play higher demanding games i’m usually at about 80, don’t feel any heat really anywhere, but when i play cp77 or squad etc, i get around 85 to 87.

I've got a near identical setup but for some reason my game runs like crap in about half of the areas in the game, I'm running a GTX 970 with an i5 9600KF that's overlocked up to 5ghz, 16gb of 3200mhz ram.

I'm on a similar rig but with more ram and an 8350, wouldn't recommend. Especially if you don't run it on an SSD. Cpu and ram is holding you back!

@@alienzm1239 I'd be agreeing with you if graphics card prices have more than trippled since then. I got my 970s new for 150$ a pop near when they came out by finding a steal of a deal. I'd be lucky to find one 2070 for 500$ used now. Prices have gone up so much I can resell my 8 year old card for profit. It's stupid since a lot of these manufacturers are price colluding and reducing production intentionally to drive up cost.

@@Day100 Manufacturers are not reducing production. They sell products at the retail price, so they don´t see any extra income from this. Prices go up since there is a global chip shortage due to lack of silicon getting more serious over last years. Crypto-things don´t help either as they create a HUGE demand of GPUs. On top of all this, it´s not From Software's responsability that an 8-year-old GPU can run their game at 1080p´max settings 60+fps.
