I like how the dude on the other end saying “putting no easy mode in your game is a form of gate keeping” is bold, because he didn’t realize that dark souls in itself is a game that gate keeps your progress if you’re not good enough. The first rule about dark souls is to keep moving and to “get good”. I don’t find that bad at all, even if you’re bad, If you try over and over you learn more and more, and you win. The people who say dark souls needs an easy mode, are people who have some sort of complex that causes them to have an aneurysm every time they see the “you died” screen.

@@ciangriffin9630 Yeah, Elden Ring's difficulty is the most "customisable" out of any souls game. If you want a decent experience, go for a normal build with average weapons like a Zweihander or a longsword and use a few not op spirit summons. If you want a hard experience go with for example, unupgraded weapons or weaker weapons and use no spirits. If you want a cakewalk you get yourself a bleed build with dual katanas and RoB mimic tear combo. Due to Elden Ring being an Open-world game you can skip or run past most of the common enemies, hell you can even leave out major bosses because Leyndell only requires 2 to be defeated

Exactly. If you try and kill 100% of the enemies as a melee build in Some areas they are just as difficult or more than some bosses coming from a souls veteran lol. I've said this before, and I'll say it here, both sides of this debate are equally cringe No, easy mode is not a matter of accessibility (ie, what's an easy mode gonna do for color blind folks and the like) But the side opposing them needs to knock it off with protecting these games and Miyazaki like they're children who don't know any better TL;Dr, this debate is fine in principle, it's just the people making the debate points are completely insufferable, and turning the actual debate that way

My argument against easy mode comes down to three core ideas, and so far no one has had a counter-argument capable of getting all three without just declaring "no u". 1) Fromsoft doesn't want an easy mode, they don't want any difficulty selection. They hand craft their games to be a single difficulty. There's no reason fromsoft should be FORCED to change their art to accommodate people who don't value it as art anyways. That's like demanding a painting or song is fundamentally altered retrospectively because you don't personally enjoy it. Artistic freedom and expressions are things to be charished and value. The only way we're ever getting an "easy mode" is to take a bomb into fromsoft office and hold them hostage to do such. Otherwise, they've been consistent and clear in their design. By now people should understand this is an intentional choice for their greater vision of the art they create. And no one, NO ONE, has the right to demand it be changed. Not I, not the dark souls community, and certainly not Acerthorne. 2) It would be highly impractical if impossible to add an easy mode. Because to make a GOOD easy mode, there'd need to be a complete second version of the game hand crafted and tailored to it. Doing that for games already out, or a new game they're making is asking a LOT of them. Because dark souls isn't like skyrim. Everything is intentionally and hand crafted experience. And if you mess with numbers, that experience starts to fall apart. You'd also need to change entire encounter of trash mobs, as well as alter each and every single boss and their mechanics. Its simply impractical to expect that. So the only hope of "easy mode" would be in a new game. But with my first point in mind, I don't think that will ever happen. They've released more than 5 games and all of them high the same design idea of no difficulty. Just the game as it was designed. And the idea handicapped or disabled people can't play dark souls is just wrong. I am disabled due to a spinal injury I suffered after surviving a tornado. I deal with nerve damage to my right side including my dominate hand. And while I'm at a disadvantage in dark souls, I still have beaten the game. It just takes persistence and effort. I feel a lot of pride in beating dark souls, dark souls 3, and sekiro despite my disability. It was one of the few things that made me realize I wasn't completely broken, that I could still accomplish stuff, even if it took extra work. 3) Last but not least, appealing to a "wider" audience is a myth, a legend, a fools error. Because simply put, when you try to appeal to every, especially people who hate your very artistic vision is a quick way to appeal to no one. It'd lose the interest of its core fanbase, who would reject a game that has any difficulty because it'd be counter to everything fromsoft games stand for. And against everything the community of fromsoft players value. The difficulty is what MAKES the game for so many people. And the "wider audience" will probably not even buy it because its a fromsoft game. This is exactly what happened with dawn of war 3. In trying to appeal to bigger audience, and different audiences than the ones surrounding warhammer 40k and dawn of war, they ended up making a game that is nothing like any previous dawn of war. And really angered the core fanbase of relic and dawn of war/company of heroes. So the game flopped and in a year was dead. Now its remembered as the most hated relic game. And the "wider audience" never came either. They just lost everyone's interest. As a result the game did poorly. You can't appeal to "wider audience" when what you're offering is already a niche. Its better to continue making games as you have, and be happy with your loyal fanbase. Than trying to trade up, and losing everyone, and having your project flop because it appeals to no one. I think my arguments are reasonable, and don't actually attack anyone. But I'd like to see someone contest them with equally valid arguments. I'm not against having this conversation. But I am against people thinking they're owed fromsoft accepting their demands. Or that us not wanting our games forced to be something they're never intended to be is somehow toxic. Yes, any community CAN be toxic. And in this case, we face constant attack, abuse, and generalization constantly. And the things we like are constantly under attack and the makers told "change ur art to my personal taste or else". That could make any group hostile and toxic to that type of thing. And the fact we have this argument every single time a game drops, it really can wear you down and make you toxic. So even if we are toxic, its because people MADE us toxic by constantly attacking us despite just wanting to be left alone to enjoy our video game. But if you've got a good argument, I'd be happy to go back and forth with you. As long as you're respectful, I will be too. If you're toxic, I will match your toxicity. That's always how I conduct myself, treat others how they treat me.

There's actually an argument for these Souls/Borne games that adding an easy mode to them would make more people want to play them and improve their sales and popularity... are they legitimately serious with this right now? I mean, sure, more people would come in to play these games, and on paper, that sounds great. However, have these folks not considered the other likely possibility of such a creative decision like this? That adding an easy mode to these games would instead alienate the fans who do enjoy the intentionally challenging gameplay and actually decrease their sales and popularity? I'm sorry, but If you feel like you have to demand an easy mode for a game that is specifically designed to have difficult combat to test the player, then perhaps that's a sign you just don't enjoy that type of game to begin with. I personally don't care much for top-down turn-based strategy games. Does that mean I'm going to demand for a third-person mode to cater to gamers like me? No. Why? Because those games aren't targeted towards my demographic, and nor should they be. Seriously, it's like people who make points like this fail to understand that not every game is going to be for them. If you don't enjoy a certain product that's made to be a certain way, the obvious course of action is to say you're just not a fan of it and move on to something you ARE a fan of. Just simply say "Eh, I get why people love these games, but I'm not a fan, they're just not for me", and boom, there you go. Problem solved. Not every game is going to be for you, and that's absolutely perfectly fine. We all different takes and opinions on what we like; that's what makes us human. But to demand that a game company adds a pointless accessibility option to a game just because you couldn't handle the way it's meant to be played? Just, no. That's being petty and entitled. EDIT: I'm sorry, but does this guy seriously not know what justified toxicity is? Justified toxicity would be if you constantly bullied and harassed someone day and night and told them to kill themselves, and your justification for that is because they simply said Captain America could beat Master Chief in a fight or something like that.) This guy's example, however, is nowhere close to being the same thing. Refusing to show respect for a rapist's pronouns is not at all justified toxicity, it's a sign that when someone committed a heinous crime, their gender doesn't matter at all. You recognize that person being a repulsive subhuman piece of shit who sexually abused others for their own gratification, and they don't deserve any respect in any capacity because of that. Why show respect to those kinds of people when they themselves didn't have any respect for the victims they hurt? Now that I think about it, the fact that he's trying to paint the guy's Reddit post as an example of justified toxicity is extremely ironic, as it shows that he's engaging in that very same practice himself by doing that, trying to gaslight the poor man by saying he's wrong to not show respect towards a disgusting rapist criminal. This says a lot about his mentality and priorities, and needless to say, he needs to take a very long look in the mirror.

I don't think so because there's multiple in game ways to make the game easier it just takes some knowledge of the game to get the items and that's much better then simply selecting easy mode
