when looking up close elden ring really lacks a lot of stuff... pretty much all fromsoft textures are lowres simple stuff that honestly could be anything before being wrapped around a 3d model.... extremely low resolution, almost zero optimization techniques which forces them to use these ps3 low poly models, almost no physics, etc... Water/the ocean is where true death is found, it's why Godwyn turned into that mermaid thing after being exposed to Destined Death. Based on the Tibia Mariner lore, it's likely the very first Outer God in the Lands Between was sea-related. The Japanese name for this enemy is Yatsume(ヤツメ). It comes from the Japanese name of lamprey eel, "yatsume unagi". It means an eel with eight eyes. So this enemy also has eight eyes.

Funnily enough, Japanese is not the only language that calls them something like that. In German, they're called Neunauge (Nine-Eyes). The eye thing is based around the fact that Lamprey eels have one eye and seven round gill slits on each side of the body, with the German name counting in their single nose opening in the center of their face as an extra eye.

Unlike straight cosmic horror and lovecraft stuff, elden ring also mixes in alot of alien esc stuff. The outer gods, primeval current, stars and moon are all in space, with your enemies like fingers, mytre, lampres, alabaster lords, and the elden beast being super alien. Wouldn't surprise me if they took some inspiration from the zenomorphs to add to elden rings aliens

The dlc further confirmed that explaining that ancestors could become outer gods. So while the GW could be compared to the biblical/platonic God, the Outer Gods are more akin to entities embodying certain aspects of existence like rot, ruin, blood. All of life was created by the Greater Will, Outer Gods included. If you think that the outer deities are similar to the great beings from bb you're dead wrong. So please don't believe something is true just because you like a certain theory, and always research the original source. Sadly many things are lost in translation

Like with Ludwig, it’s also a hybrid of animal and human, in his case a medicinal leech which do have five pairs of eyes, each with about 50 photoreceptors. The mouth seems more inspired by lampreys, which have teeth arranged in a disc around a jawless mouth, mixed with a human’s, features. This is in contrast with actual leeches, which have three serrated blade like jaws.

The eye pairs are also based on lampreys. The seven gill slits that lampreys have on each side of their body were interpreted as extra eyes in folklore, resulting in them being called eight eyed eel (yatsume unagi) in Japanese (other languages also call them nine-eyed eels, counting their nose hole as an extra eye). So the devs giving them 8 literal eyes is actually a sort of pun.

I think one possible reason Marika did this was to preserve Marika's Order or to make her rebellion/plan to shatter the Elden Ring face less opposition. The validity of Marika's Golden Order is supposedly confirmed by the Greater Will's endorsement, confirmed through the two-fingers who are its emissaries. If Metyr were actively interacting with others, it could reveal the massive deception behind Marika's Order: the GW has not contacted anyone directly since Metyr and everything she/the fingers are saying are outdated orders at best, or invented, arbitrary bullshit at worst. Faith is mechanically represented as just a number, but from a world-building/lore POV it's meant to tangibly represent the strength of one's belief and faith is what fuels the Golden Order. If the Mother of Fingers is there to let the secret slip, it could shake the foundations of that faith to it's core, rather than a lone Gold-mask figuring out that something wasn't quite right. Ymir is also a consideration, as his POV and knowledge directly contradicts divinities as a concept. A lot of the things in the Shadow-lands are direct threats to the Golden Order, either as direct enemies or due to having some knowledge/secret that could ruin it.

These things for me are a puzzle. A lot of people say this is what people turn when they take the figer nostrums, but you actually need their scales for the nostrums and sorcerers created finger glintstone magic inspired by the lampreys, so they predate the nostrum itself. Were they the lost civilizations of the altars of light and dark? Cause those look similar to the few man-made structures surrounding the two finger ruins. Physically, they remind me: 1)The thing Marika (or Radagon according to some theories) removes the golden strands in the sote trailer, which would make sense cause the finger ruins have golden veins on them. 2) thinner Elden beast made of flesh. It genuinelly looks like the beast structurally speaking, except its lack of wings. But the rest is there, arms, legs, long neck, tail how they move, how they both use form of cosmic magic or how they can control their projectiles. They even got some form of spit attack. 3) the basilisks and Godwyn. They carry his fish-like characteristics, are shredding his same type of scales and have multiple eyes, besides being connected to water. 4) serpents, in particular the base serpent. Both creatures have multiple eyes across their bodies, shredding scales and teeth filling their mouths unevenly like circles. 5) wormfaces. Wormfaces practically look like these guys, except much much older, infested with parasites, and more human. Even their attacks are similar. What is the deal with these creatures?

Isnt the idea with these that they're finger sorcerers trying to become fingers? So it could stand to reason that one is more advanced than the other. Considering all the giant fingers in the area are black, and the two fingers seem to have a darker skin color, maybe the black ones are the more far along the process. Just speculating though. Honestly I feel like a bit of the dlc lore did not go to plan and especially when it comes to this questline.
