The skull feature of Astel is not likely to be caused by the intervention of the Nox, as all Fallingstar Beasts have the same kind of skull embedded in them, which houses the eye. While humanoid-ish, the skull is most certainly inhuman.

One thing that caught my interest about Astel's design is how much it reminded me of the Amygdalas in Bloodborne with the whole giant cosmic insect look they both had. Lore wise this may hint at the possibility that the different versions of Astel, and also possibly the other Star Beast, are either part of a larger hive mind or the extensions of a larger comsic being, wich were also two theories about the nature of the Amygdalas in Bloodborne. Wich begs the question: are there also other Elden Beasts out there in the games universe instilling order on other worlds on behalf of the Greater Will?

Certaintly. I think all of this is implied by the visuals of the arena where the fight the Elden Beast. We see vast star-fields and rows of golden trees. I think the message is clear. The Erdtree is not unique and neither is “earth”. This is just one of maybe infinite planets seeded with life.

I don’t know why but I feel like Astel is more feral in nature while the elden beast is more calculating and self-aware. There are Onyx Lords inside the Anix tunnel. And those humanoids are linked with star-based life and said to have come from stars themselves. In some cases we see Onyx Lords attempting to call meteorites/star-based lifeforms to hit the Earth. So the tunnel could be a site of ancient meteorite crash site that is the reason precious ores can be mined there, and why Astel (probably meteorite itself) pupated there. Then miners discovered the place and started to mine rocks, unfortunately awakening Onyx Lords who were not too happy about people hitting them with pickaxes. I think miners delved too deeply and awoke the Astel/Onyx Lords and were either killed or driven mad because of cosmic revelation.

Liked the video. Astel doing hit jobs for GW certainly presents a conundrum, one I've being thinking about. I'd assumed it was the envoy of a different outer god, in the same class as the elden beast for all the reasons you mentioned. Spent some time looking at the map, switching back and forth from the eternal cities to the areas directly above them. Nokron - Swamp of Aeonia. Nokastella - Liurnian Lakes. Nameless City - Leyndell. The topology of all three above-ground sites share the characteristics of impact craters. Large depressions filled with shallow water. With Leyndell, it's not so obvious in-game but if you look at the map, it kinda is. The tree covers half, but the other side is clearly an impact crater. All three eternal cities were hit by extraterrestrial objects, but not the same one or type and not at the same time. I got a theory about what happened that makes a lot of sense, but I don't know if you're looking for that kind of dump. It clears up some of the confusion about the eternal cities. As you pointed out, they're not all the same. They're quite similar, but the nameless eternal city is different in some very important ways.

There's more justification to there being more than one Astel, you can kind of see an evolutionary line through these bosses/enemies 1. Fallingstar Beast 2. Full-Grown Fallingstar Beast 3. Malformed Stars (the enemies that cling to ceilings and hurl rocks at you, iirc they're just Astel's with a mask that radically alters how they look) 4. Astel Astel seems to be the last stage in the life cycle, so there being more than one Astel makes sense. However it doesn't excuse the completely bullshit teleporting grabs though (the hitbox on them is DS2 bad), those can fuck right off along with Waterfoul Dance.

In my own head canon both the Elden Beast and Astel represent two overarching natural factors of the universe: Order/stability and Chaos/unpredictability. The Elden Beast and by extension the Greater Will represents Order, or in other words the universal laws that exist through the universe like the laws of physics, gravity, etc. and natural phenomena that represent some type of internal order to things like the concept of sacred geometry. Meanwhile Astel and the rest of it's species could represent the Chaotic and unpredictable factors in the universe, that which allows random things to happen in the universe like cosmic accidents, star collisions, solar flares, comets falling, earthquakes, volcanic activity etc. Factors that may or may not lead to destruction of things (its a literal falling star) or the spontaneous creation of new life (like the falling star beasts). These two factors complement each other to create and maintain life through the universe, the chaotic elements keeps things from becoming stale and degrading while randomly creating new life while the Order factor keeps things from getting out of hand and provides the structure and stability for life to grow and evolve. This is also backed by the designs and actions of both creatures. Astel designs are completely random and just plain wierd. It's nothing more than a bunch of celestial bodies grouped together to form a body; It's actions during the fight are random and sometimes unpredictable and it's may contribution to the story was the destruction of an Eternal City. Meanwhile the Elden Beast looks like a living work of art made from crystal and stars with a visible nervous system (order) and it's role in the story is to create a type of societal Order in the Lands Between.

Where did you get the idea that natural-born means bastard from? Every definition I can find (and by far the most common one) is "native", or "having innate qualities of", with the former most likely being the correct interpretation. "Natural-born of the Void" means "Native to the Void". Also, as was pointed out elsewhere in the comments here, there are the Malformed Star enemies as well. The most likely explanation is that "Astel, Natural-born of the Void" is the broodmother summoned by the Nox, who then went on to fuck things up, birthing all the minor ones. It could also be that Astel is unrelated to the machinations of the Nox, and merely dropped down randomly just like the Fallingstar beasts do. If anything, Astel, Stars of Darkness is either an offspring, or the mate of, Astel, Naturalborn of the Void. Since we know that Astel, Naturalborn of the Void came from the stars (hence the name) and was native to the stars, it's it's unlikely that it was modified by the Nox. This is reinforced by the fact that the only other creatures native to the Void are the Fallingstar beasts, who most likely are of a different species but share the same traits. Lastly, the naturalborn of the Void might be the reason Radahn had to take control of the stars. We see stars falling after we defeat him, and it's not unlikely that he was trying to prevent more voidborn from landing in the Lands Between

I just thought of this the other day. Reading the Elden Beast description says a star bearing a beast fell to the lands between. Just trying to connect the dots to another theory, I had wondered if perhaps the Elden beast and Astel were two parts of a greater entity. The Elden Beast being the cosmic soul and Astel being the incomplete body. The theory also involved the two being the remaining heads on placidusax that fell to the lands between separately when the player kills him in the past so it might be a little wacky, but I’m still workin on it lol

Except for the placidusax one, honestly dope theory. Wonder why people haven't thought about it. We know from the blind priestess that in the beginning everything came from one entity. Then divided later on into different entities. Elden beast being a vassal and having a purpose sounds right as its purely soul. Also near its head is a golden light probably showcasing the greater will and the rest of the body as the universe with the greater will's influence on it. Astel also has a light near its head which probably showcases the void and its entire body is made planet like structure. All the star beasts are showcasing the grand scale of something. If this theory true then there should be a star beast for chaos as well because thats the only thing missing.

Way I look at it is that the Nox summoned, or rather attempted to, summon something related to gravity magic but ended up attracting way more than what they bargained for. Big meteorite it comes in on strikes the (most likely) already damaged Farum Azula, shattering it further, and then spreading Fallingstar Beasts across the Lands Between, with the main Astel being pulled into that Eternal City that summoned it. The other Astel might have been in there but broke free, or it might have been one of the Fallingstar Beasts that grew.
@diedullahan7904
@diedullahan7904 Жыл бұрын
I might have my timeline messed up, but I personally think the Nox used magic to call Astel from the stars (like in the Meteorite of Astel sorcery) to destroy Farum Azula for being tied to the greater will. Their subsequent destruction was probably during that same event. The Nameless Eternal City is below where Leyndell is now, amongst the roots of a new civilisation loyal to the Greater Will. There could have multiple meteors, beasts, "Astel", and Sellia also has a chair-crypt, gravity magic, etc. I think Radahn would have a pretty good reason to halt the stars after all that.
@davidgomez3044
@davidgomez3044 Жыл бұрын
This is the best theory except the only faction known for calling down meteors are the Alabaster Lords / Onyx Lords. We know one taught Radhan in Selia, which was a town where Nox sorcerers lived as well, but to me, it also seems like the Onyx Lords were competing with the Nox in the underground. We find them mostly in the older beige ruins that the Nox seem to be competing with for space. Whoever dwelled in those ruins is long gone, so I think we can assume the Nox defeated them.

I think just as, according to Seluvis, the one amber starlight is more powerful and special than the normal blue starlight shards found in many places, so is the elden beast superior to astel(s). Elden beast is golden like the amber starlight, while astel is blue. And the amber starlight is found in Altus plateau, while blue starlight shards are found mostly above ranni’s two fingers, sorcery rise towers, and astrnomical altars. So it is obvious that the amber starlight represents faith (elden beast) while blue represents intell (astel).

I think Astel is something like the Dragonkin Soldiers. They are both bastards of powerful entities and humanoids, and are described as malformed. We find the dragonkin in the eternal cities, but also spectral forms right outside the Yelough Anix ruins. The two Astels are found around the eternal cities and in the Yelough Anix tunnel. I do, however, think that Astel was summoned rather than created, as it is described as being born in the lightless void far away. I think this summoning was an attempt by the Nox to summon the lord of night.

I think the bastard conection is a bit of a stretch. First of, if you check for the etymology, there is only one mentioning of it beeing an eupimism for bastard and it was used for. "As a euphemism for "illegitimate, bastard" (of children), it is recorded from c. 1400, on the notion of blood kinship". Most other meanings are more similar to this: "existing in nature as a result of natural forces". The later would put Astel in opposition to the greater will on a metaphorical level which is why I don´t believe that one obscure use of the term means anything. Furthermore, Astel beeing a failed "Manhattenproject" diminishes the cosmic horror theme in my opinion because this would mean these creatures aren´t nearly as unknowable as the lore (or the theme rather) suggests. The theory that Astel is the final(?) form of the starbeast´s life cycle seems more likely to me. It is an interessting theory though. My personal theory is that when Radahn "conquered the stars" he altered the gravity well of the plain/planet where the lands between exist on in a way that would stop or at least inhibit the incursion of those creatures and incidentaly sealed Ranni´s fate. Zullie the witch recently found an unused animation of Astel: They had a similar attack/move that Radahn has: Rapidly decending from the sky as a meteor. Before that I always thought about those creatures as a highly adapted species which has distinctiv states in their "life cycle" - for the lack of a better word: 1. Landing (Fallen Star beast-stage): A hardened shell to survive the impact unharmed. 2. Going underground (Gestation-phase): Even if they share similarities with insects, we don´t know if they pupate. There are however many insects which go underground to do so. With that in mind, those colorless Astel-clones that guard several spots underground would make sense. They are in a vurnarable state beeing immobilized. This shares similarities with insects as well who often seek out secure places to pupate/gestate. 3. Final(?) stage (Astel): The purpose of this stage is unclear to me. I have no idea what the motivation behind these creatures is. Maybe this is just what they do: Invade ecosperes to consum/reprociate and the move on, like celestial locusts. Some additional thoughts: The remembrance says: "Once destroyed an Eternal City and took away their sky." In my opinion that doesn´t necessarly mean that he took it away with some sort of magic or ability in an active sense. It could just be the result of his impact and therefor colateral damage. Even if the word "took" implies an active deed, it just could be flowery language. The phrase "he/she took something away from me" is often found in literature and more often then not is a figure of speech. Some more speculation: Maybe the fake skys under Nokron - however they were created - was the thing that has drawn the Falling Star species to the lands between in the first place. If this would be true it is yet another tragedy which never was intended like many other things that happended before.

What if a falling star beast landed was somehow in what seems to be a humanoid skeletal body? Now, if only we had gigantic humanoid vessels to trap/house a falling star to maybe create their own Elden Beast, that last part was more wishful thinking 🤔 I personally don't think the enormous skeletons found under or inside the lands are connected to the Giants mostly because they look nothing like the ones we see in game and fight. The statue of the person on that big chair that looks like its reading a book fits the part size of the skeletons we find.

Also, a weird observation: Astel is just bones, and the Elden Beast is just flesh and a nervous system(?). It's like someone ripped the skeleton out of the Elden Beast, and that is Astel. Maybe they're originally supposed to be one creature, and was split apart? Possibly because of the Elden Ring shattering? There's also the "Fallingstar Beast" which is like "Elden Beast." Astel is my favorite boss in Eldin Ring. It may not have the best mechanics, may not be a balanced boss whatsoever. In all honesty, it is below mid in terms of gameplay and what little lore there is directly connected to him. But he is connected to the cosmos, or void as it is called in the lands between. This implies the lands between exist in a space surrounded by literal nothing, and it affirms that without grace, you cannot get there. It makes more sense when you think of grace like the lifestream from ff7.

Meteoric Ore Blade: "Katana forged from meteoric ore to dispatch lifeforms born of falling stars. Deals magic damage. The blade is weighty, known to deliver slashes of such ferocity that the impact is said to resemble the crash of a falling meteor." Just wanted to put it here.

I would argue they’re the same type of creature. A “seed” from another world containing the necessary “logic” to construct or usurp an ecosystem

Maybe the falling star Beast fall from the Sky and have the Need of a strong Rocky body to survive the impact, then they need to go underground to evolve .only underground you can found that giant enemy that look like astel , maybe thats the larva stage then , once Is adapted to the Planet, become an astel like Beast.

The destruction of "an Eternal City" likely refers to the Lands Between before the creation of the Elden Ring. Hasn't anyone wondered why there's all these massive chasms containing ruins below the surface? Or what about the bizarre elevated body of water in the middle of the map? The fallingstar beasts and astel use gravitational magic, so I've always suspected that first the elden beast fell to the lands and was found by a tribe of draconians who aligned with the fire giants to forge the elden ring. Then the alabaster/onyx lords arrived in the lands between and conspired with the newly forming faction to use the power of the Elden Ring to summon a meteor shower to destroy and bury the massive eternal city, sparing the places where the factions resided. Then the first order of the One Great formed on the new surface led by the draconians and fire giants, creating new life and drawing new life into the forming lands. They would grow the Great Tree, watering it's roots with the blood of warriors using the living jars. Once beings began to be born omen or misbegotten they gathered the bodies of living and dead warriors/slaves and burned them with the frenzied flame, giving birth to the eternal dragons by forming their scales from the ash.

Why are people comparing the blatant Godrick clone to the two Astels? Compared to that blatant copy paste boss with no valid reasoning on why Godefroy exists, there being another Astel actually makes sense with how we can find many more Astels in their Pupa-like stage which could even imply that there could be more fully grown Astels lurking deeper below the earth

There's mention of celestial bodies that have more importance than others when it comes to determining fate. The Moon of Nokstella is said to have been the "guide to countless stars". It's known that the stars can determine fate, and Godfrey calls the Elden Ring "Arbiter of Fate and lord of the very stars above" and says that "Gold commandeth the very stars". So, in my opinion, their connection is that they are both stars, with Astel being a malformed one and the Elden Beast being the Ultimate Star.

The humanoid Skull that seems to be forming around the huge single eye that the full grown fallingstar beast shares with Astel further makes me think that the Nox created Astel as the pinnacle of their silver tear life creation research project and could also be what made the greater will take their sky as they just created their own elden beast essentially, big no no for sure I imagine.

I dont really get why your mad about Astel not being one of a kind. I mean we see malformed Stars everywhere! These 2 are clearly of a same species. Could be that Malformed Stars are just juvenile Astel or mayby failed Astels. I dont see why 2 Astels coudnt exist at once.

Formless Mother. The lost Uhl society of the underground, the Moghwyn dynasty, and the ancient dragons all most likely worshipped the Formless Mother and offered her blood sacrifices. Dragon communion is likely an ancient dragon form of Formless Mother worship, which is why you sacrifice hearts (closely tied to blood) and why it is tied to the arcane. Dragon communion gives its followers wings and

Damn I had a whole comment then you just go ahead and rob me of my have video watched comment. But yeah Astel wasn't meant to be made, the stars of darkness is probably manipulated star beast and so were made. But Astel was naturally born no mutated or force mutated/evolved? Or it could just be breading like dogs I dunno. But thank you for bringing up the lore wise astel was most likely a mistake and while the name difference between japanese and english name is far off, I think the english name gives more of an idea. But I do believe the stars of darkness were an attempt at creating their own beast, just like they tried creating life with free will, IE mimic tears. So they were all about genically manipulating creatures. And what does any male do after he destroys a city and robs the sky, get laid. lol But yeah astel is probably an attempt at recreating an elden beast. They both harbor galaxies within them, astel may have a whole run in it that we just don't know because it's ruin doesn't work as long as the golden order ruin is there.I mean what happened to the dragon rings? Just saying I think it was an attempt at creating an outer god beast that could create elden rings of it's own. But they couldn't control it, and it wasn't the first experiment so there were probably multipal ones and boom astel is the natural selection product of trying to create gods.

The Onyx Lords / Alabaster Lords (Meteor Lords) called down Astel. They called down both actually, and some of the enviromental evidence is that you can find an Alabster Lord near any of the Astel in the game. The "Starcallers" of the Weeping Peninsula use gravity magic to call down meteors that they can extract for more gravity magic. Gravity magic, however, was invented by the Onyx and Alabaster Lords, who were only called "Lords" in fear of their immense strength. The Alabaster Lords of the Yelough Anix tunnel reside just beneath a village of those who have gone mad. Typically, those who are associated with the Three Fingers were oppressed by society, such as in the tragic case of the nomads, so maybe the Meteor Lords were rejected by the dominant society of the time and lashed out by calling down Astel. This would destroy not only the Nameless Eternal City, which was presumably once the capital, but also the flying city of the dragons. We know the dragons cooperated with humans due to statues of academy patriarchs which can be found in Farum Azula. Caria and The Academy went to war for many reasons, but one of them being that House Caria values the Moon and the stars equally, while those of the primordial sorceries valued the stars and the primival current above all else. Well, we know from item descriptions that the Meteor Lords saw meteors as equal to the stars, most likely due to being living meteorites themselves. This could have surely led to conflict with the unnamed sorcerer king of the dragons who appears to hold an academy staff.
