I love that when compared to Dark Souls' final battle themes, Elden Ring's final battle theme feels like even though the world is coming to an end, you still have the hope to save it.

Absolutely agree. That's one thing I was very happy with in Elden Ring - it didn't go full on nihilism mode in the conclusion of the story. Outside of the dedicated bad ends, the world is either allowed to go to a state where things can return to normalcy, or genuinely get better. Though now that I think about it, Dark Souls didn't go hard core nihilism until after the first game. It had the option to be viewed that way, but it really depended on whether you chose to believe Kaathe or not. Given that the sequels proved he was at least mostly telling the truth though... lol

The thing I love about Elden Ring above all other Souls games is that all of the Demi Gods and Empyreans feel like a unified force opposing you, mocking your efforts and mission to upend the Golden Order. You are challenging the gods and they wont stand for it. So when you finally reach Radagon and the music swells up you feel like “Damn, I’m here.”Theres already so much reward to even have entered the Erdtree. Radagon doesn’t care to speak to you, he just intends to kill you for being arrogant enough to stand before him. And his weapon is a hammer, he literally beats you down, it’s not just an attack, it’s an insult. He wont chase you, and if you flee he will shatter the ground beneath you. And if you have already journeyed all that way and faced all those challenges, there is no way you’re going to surrender or accept defeat. What a legendary game and feeling.

This one song made me feel like every battle, death, victory, all the 100 plus hours of exploration and discovered lore led me to one final and monumental moment.. what once was a feeling of dread and despair turned into ambition and confidence, i felt i was strong and worthy enough to face whatever was before me. This song is one of the best game themes since Skyrim. 0:45 Just sends chills down my spine. It is epic but almost in a disheartening sense, as if you were a knight joining the charge for the first very time... as the distant enemy castle walls become a looming colossus approaching ever nearer, arrows whiz past you hitting men to each side. You can hear their screams and somewhere in the back of your head you can hear your subconscious silently screaming 'this is a bad idea!' but you ignore it. Overcome by a sense of heroism and self-aggrandizement you raise your weapon and charge forward, on to the first poor soul misfortune enough to cross your path.

Samuel Kim is good, but he fell short this time. I've heard the main theme more times than I can count since the game released, and beat the final boss yesterday (after hearing the boss theme for a multitude of attempts). This cover sounds almost identical to the original. This cover sounds so good because the original was so good, and that is what your hearing. It's a shame, but this one just wasn't as inventive as his other pieces or add anything new, which is the whole point of a remix/cover for an orchestral piece in my opinion.

I had this game on my PS5 for a year before I decided to finally pick it up. I have never been a Souls fan due to the difficulty, but this one was getting so much hype I decided to persevere. God this song is so goddamn epic. I started this game well after the craze of the release of it. I got covid around May of last year, and it was then that I decided to play. I got frustrated and put it down. Then, about 4 months ago I picked it back up in a moment of really bad depression, and it was exactly what I needed. The small accomplishments of figuring out how to play... The epic boss battles. I still haven't finished, but I will say this game was and is good for my mental state.

@@annesn1fan50 What spoilers, the game basically has no story to speak of. Tarnished....Elden Lord something something, yeah ok. The game requires you to watch hours of lore analyzing crap to get the full picture. Decent game, but extremely overhyped. Beating the game was the biggest snoozefest I've ever experienced. The controls alone should be enough to subtract a few points of the scale. And to answer the usual childish incoming "get gud" comments: I beat Malenia without mimic or OP meta build, nice try though.

The first run through this game I had nearly finished the Mountaintops of the Giants, then I lost 50 hours of progress. I had to stop for a time, but when I returned, I had a new drive to see it through to the end. I'll comment on this piece as someone who heard it for the first time. Problem is that I am already biased because I played Elden Ring, almost a perfect game. It's hard to miss the work of From Software. Something so wrong that it feels right in so many levels of how great this game is. Many people speaks about that such theme is about ambition, other people speaks that it is about despair. I think this is what life really is. It is a struggle every second, a hardship, pain, suffering, survival, deceit, sorrow and a struggle. YES THIS IS about a struggle, the hardest you could ever had. It takes tears, fear, blood, the deepest sacrifice and the hardest stamina. This is what this song is about. Don't expect victory for having the fight. The victory IS THE FIGHT. Nothing else. This is what this game deals with. I can't describe how profound these sounds are. It's not about a hero or a villain. It's not about the throne after the victory. It's about what such person will have the rest of his life if he commits to such ambition. He will be trapped in THIS fight to keep the throne and his reign. Again, it's about the fight. A perfect tune.
