This a 1000 percent. Should have streamlined co op, made it a more seamless, got rid of arbitrary roadblocks to progression. It's aggravating in an open world co op game to not be able to go everywhere you want, together, whenever you want. Should have actually been 4 player co op, instead of 3 and a random invader. FromSoft's stubborn reluctance to do anything with the archaic janky PvP in their games is now actively holding back the potential greatness of the co op experience. Love the game, but it just missed the mark a lil bit in regards to delivering on the cooperative multiplayer.

@@stunphy8286 "should be considered lucky"? lmao! I played all the Souls games. Solo'd everything, so just don't. This game is Elden Ring, not Dark Souls. Elden Ring was marketed as a 4 player co op, that's just a plain and simple fact. 3 players with one rando pvp invader isn't 4 player co op, another fact. Everyone I know is playing this game right now, and they all bought it for the co op, not the pvp. Dark Souls style pvp, (while fun) is janky, easily exploited, unbalanced slop. It also has not evolved much. When Fromsoft said we were getting 4 player co op, I thought that meant we could get 4 on 4 pvp matches, but No. It's just essentially the same from DS3. Not every Fromsoft game has to retain old wonky Dark Souls' style pvp. The overwhelming amount of Elden Ring purchases from co op players that never bought a Souls game is evidence of that.

I'm honestly super disappointed in the multiplayer. I thought i'd just be able to explore around with my brother but it's not even worth it. Can't ride your horse can't refill flasks and the item to join your friend is a consumable you can run out of. I get the game is meant to be hard but playing with a friend shouldn't be on the list of things the make you pull your hair out.

Side note, you don't actually need to beat goldrick to go to the next area. There's a path next to the castle where you can just walk past him. (He is still a story boss so you do have to fight him eventually. But you can keep exploring without beating him)

The only thing I felt sad about is the fact that I don't have covens in this game, in Dark Souls 3 it was very cool to see players from different covens (like the golden and purple ones) but unfortunately they didn't take it to the Elden Ring

There’s another finger like the bloody finger it’s called the Recusant Finger and you get it from the volcano manor when u do your first assassination quest with them. Also, The teleporters have the names of where they teleport you as a message next to the tele-porter. Edit: added the info about the finger

Thanks for the video! Sadly it doesn't solve the mistery I'm struggling with. I'll tell you what happened in the most detailed way I can and perhaps someone will have an answer: I started playing the game in coop with a friend and everything was working fine. We did quests, dungeons, bosses and so on together. When we were respectively levels 52 (me) and 48 (him) we decided to run a dungeon together in Weeping Peninsula but we couldn't see each other summon signs. We thought someone between us didn't do a quest or something so we worked to make it even. Still nothing. Co-op wasn't working. At this point we tried to Co-op in Lingrave and it worked! We killed the Tree Sentinel for the both of us and then we couldn't co-op anymore. Again. We moved from West Lingrave to East Lingrave, Weeping Peninsula again... nothing. We reached Dragonbarrow and Co-op worked again but that's the only place we have on the map where it works. We tried to Co-op in Dragonbarrow and walk back to Lingrave but a white wall blocks us. I don't know what the problem is at this point, please help! Thank you.

@@Born2Game In the beginning I tried to restart the PC but since we can Co-op in the more advanced zones, makes me think that it must be a game feature. Someone said that if we kill the area boss, at that point we can't summon anymore but we both killed Margit very early in the game and we could Co-op after that.

@@UberinhoKZbin It's the Tree Sentinel that did it to you, my best guess. My Friend and I are having the same issue - we could co-op on the overworld just fine in lingrave but soon as we killed the tree sentinel we couldn't summon eachother in that zone anymore. Dungeons worked for us though so for that I don't know what the issue is.. but I think there is some special sort of *tag* on that particular overworld boss. Other zones, we can summon just fine.. My suggestion is don't kill him in future runs, or if you run into him again elsewhere by chance - until you're done exploring the overworld with ur bud. That's the route we're taking from now on. I know this isn't really a solution to your problem but at least it's some info on someone else experiencing a similar issue.

Great video but could someone help clarify some things for co-op? Based on the video the loot is instanced - so we get separate loot drops and runes and whatnot. I heard/read that certain areas in co-op would be restricted for play, can anyone confirm this? And what sort of areas are denied (if any)? ... please only answer if you know. I guess NPC's sell the furlcalling finger remedies for 1,000 runes. Is it ever a good idea? Do they sell an infinite amount? My brother and I are thinking of getting the game, but we only read negative co-op reviews lol So I'm just gonna ask: is it even a good idea to approach this game as a traditional co-op game? Is the farming for the consumable remedies too much of a grind for new players that might die a lot? Is the lack of a horse in co-op going to make this game a hiking simulator? I'm just looking for some honest opinions. I don't mind the idea of getting invaded either, but how often should we expect to get invaded? If we're dying to invaders every 10 minutes and bosses, I picture the consumable item to summon a friend running out very quickly... especially for new players maybe? Also, only one player progresses the story-line, which I guess is fine since "Player 1" can stream the cut-scenes and whatnot. Say, we defeat the first main boss, do we then immediately have to defeat him again on "Player 2's" world in order to be on the same level - experience/loot/skill wise? Or do we just keep playing on "Player 1's" world no problem? .... maybe a bad example, but let's say Runescape was co-op like this, once you defeat the dragon only player 1 is allowed to Rune armor which would mean player 2 has to beat it all over again to achieve the same skill/buffs. Any cheesy mechanics/unlockables like that? If the answer is it's not a good co-op game from start to finish, that's fine just please tell me why.

1) I’m not sure on the first question sorry 2) its very very easy to make furcalling finger remedy as the material(as shown in the video) is easily found all over the map 3) this is not at all to be approached as a traditional co op game. Co op as a whole is just an aid to help with bosses. 4) yes u need to beat the boss in each player’s worlds

The item to see summon signs and bring in your friend are easily craftable with flowers and they respawn and are everywhere, so no need to buy the 1000 runes ones. Bosses only die for the Host's game/quest progression. In order for you both to progress, you have to fight the boss twice, in each player's game. Loot from the boss only goes to the Host, the person summoned into the game gets Multiplayer loot rewards, not the items and gear. The game scales you if you are vastly different level than the Host.

I was looking for information on level restrictions, I used the small Golden affigy alot from the start and it was fun to help out on bosses.. but now im at lvl 120 when I use it I rarely get summoned in any zone I assume it's very simple lvl 1 to 79 lockout or something, just want to know (or a weapon upgrade restriction)

It's a level range that you can join, I haven't seen any info on the ranges of the brackets. It's most clearly applicable in PVP where those that are over lvl 125 can't get invaders/duelers hardly ever because not many are that high.

A multiplayer password removes level restrictions. You can try to find a password used by a community, though those are typically group passwords which are a whole different deal.

This is mainly a single player game just like past Souls games - the summon is there to help the host with a certain area or boss, and to not make the game overly easy they are weakened a bit.

I’m new to the souls series, beat ds1 solo and wanted to try Elden ring on ps5 because my friend was hyping it up. Amazing game deserves nothing but praise, but I just thought one day to play coop. Starting it was rough because we had to farm runes and figure out how to summon (not really a complaint because it took 15 minutes to figure out.) it was smooth for the most part, annoying having to farm flower’s because we go through them fast. But specific mechanics are not obvious. Like how do I know why I can’t be summoned, if I beat a main area boss why can’t we go fight a smaller boss or why can’t I be summoned at the next objective we need to run through. The devs could literally make it seamless like the mod by tweaking the numbers the more people join. Incoming damage, outgoing and runes acquired. The system was over complicated and probably took hours of work when they could have done less work for better results. The worst part is the coop is just good enough to play through to play but just bad enough to make you say screw it let’s play something else. If they are working on a fix I’ll buy the game on pc and I’ll buy the dlc twice (when it comes out.) but till then I’m not buying the dlc.

The summoning is only confusing before you engage with it. Once you watch a video or figure it out for yourself, all the multiplayer components ARE as simple as one or two button clicks. 🤷

So me and my friend we messing around the other day exploring a lot of the world. I was around level 41 they starting a new character, and we milled about for a for hours then beat Margit. We tried playing together again today but we’re unable to summon each other. I leveled up to around 51 and we can’t summon each other near the castle, the starting area or the rot swamp. We tried multiplayer passwords and everything but no dice. He hasn’t beaten Godrick yet. Does he have to do that or what do we do to play together?

I think the PVP section of the video has some incorrect information (at least based on the game in May 2024): 1) invasions are announced to the invaded player 2) you cannot invade solo players and you will not be invaded when playing solo (unless you use a Taunter's Tongue or you get invaded by an NPC)

If you killed Vhar, you can get the recusants Finger (functions exactly the same) in Volcano Manor after joining them. You can die the cloth with a maidens blood at the church of inhibition. That way you won’t have to use the imbued stone sword on that gate and can go somewhere else. (The grafted Scions rewards are not particularly good, and certainly not unique in function)

Make sure you activate the martyr statues at bosses that You want to help players with. When activating the Small effigy...it activates any martyr statue that YOU activated for you to join players and help them but only Martyr statues that you activated!

don't know if you're still playing or even needing this 5 months later but summon a furled finger and then use the taunters tongue in front of them so they know you want to hunt invaders, then wait for invaders and let 1 ally fight 1 invader, while you fight the other if there is another invader

I just wanted to say at the grace infront of the gate near the gate front ruins not to far southwest from the grace there is a erdleaf flower then go rest at the previous grace and it will respawn then rince and repeat as long you need to

You’re welcome and I said at the start of the video, 2 friends because it’s 4 player multiplayer but 1 space is always left open for a PvP invader

Is there a way to invade with a friend? I was thinking you invite them into your world with a furcalling finger remedy and then use a bloody finger to invade a world together but that didn't work. I keep hearing 2 v 2 invasions are possible and I've seen it in the play tests from a few months back but I haven't seen anything on how to do it.

You can’t do it with a friend(atleast I haven’t figured it out)when you invade if they have two summons they will send another random to make it 2v2

I am playing solo trying to decide whether to progress the quest that give me the bloody finger, knowing that I have to invade someone if I’m not using the taunting tongue can I be invaded after invading someone will still playing solo since I technically initiated it. That is my only concern as I don’t want to be invaded while learning the game and trying to beat the main story

Why does summoning for help at bosses and stuff never worked sometimes. Spent like an hour and a half using the item you have to craft to summon players, took forever to even get summon signs. Needs a tweet id say

Straight up, you told me something I didn't know. It is basically a 3 player co-op. Talk about a misrepresentation of the game saying it is a 4 player game. Anyway. Those Erdleaf Flowers, do they respawn? If so what is the time frame (if you know it)? I feel like this whole process is really stupid. I mean, why make co-op so nuanced? Even IF it requires expendable resources, they could have made it so those the host summons stay in the host's game with the host immediately losing the resources as the cost. It is such as waste of time and effort having to re-inviting them every time you complete a boss fight or from death. A friend died? Time to stop progress and run all the way back to some specific place to re-invite them. It was a pain in all of the Dark Souls games, a pain in Nioh, a pain in Bloodborne. It's not a good design. Some of these games you had to wait for the signs to even show up so all would stand around waiting instead of playing.

The multiplayer does not work. If u have the same password and area as ur friend, u still cannot see their summoning sign the severs are terrible since about may and still have not came back up. Idk what to do to get my friend in the game with me or me join him bc no one explains how to fix it
