I think its official invaders/ quality PvP is dead. They had the opportunity to really fix or focus on what they wanted from a PvP system. This yes feels like a response to the co op mod but that also has PvP. I would love to see a 3 V 3 V 3 mode with a 3 lanes in a triangle shape with corners being bases with maybe an npc element in the middle arena I think has potential

No builds is a huge turn off for me, and they doubled down on the over the top anime power fantasy of ER which I hate. Hopefully they try their hand at a stand alone PvP game thats more grounded. This just seems like the aspects of ER that I like the least x100 mashed in with random stuff like fortnite and rougelikes.

PvP fans shouldn’t despair just yet. I wouldn’t put it past FromSoft to add PvP modes to this game later down the line in an expansion or colosseum-like update. In one of the interviews with Junior Miyazaki he said there were ‘no current plans’ for PvP, but implied that the reason was to focus on & refine the foundations of the co op gameplay design. The fact that From is even willing to take a chance like this very much leaves that possibility open. The game design and the multiplayer focus easily allows for the addition of PvP if it does well and From feels like exploring further innovations. That said, even if they don’t add PvP it still looks amazing. From using the backbone of Elden Ring to focus on an entirely different style of gameplay is an interesting decision and I have faith that Señor and Junya Michael Zaki will not disappoint.

@@iota-09 maybe they don’t do it in this game, but if what they’re going for is well received it’s a good sign for innovations in future multiplayer focused titles. This by no means is a nail in the coffin for souls PvP. FromSoft experimenting in multiplayer and different gameplay styles is a good thing, and opens the door for other possible directions. It wouldn’t be a safe bet for From to go for an ambitious online PvP game without testing the waters and their fledgling directors first. The nuances of gameplay and balancing for a PvP game is far riskier and more labor intensive than it is for a purely PvE/co op game. They’re making a relatively small/low risk investment with Nightreign to see what sticks, is what this looks like to me. As a red blooded souls PvP enjoyer who gets the frustration I’m saying that those who are already announcing the death of PvP have no definitive reasons to think that From has abandoned it at this time. Let em cook and see what they do long term.

I begrudgingly went through Sekiro. And this is like... not even that. I doubt this will keep players around, if it was a free game or 5 - 10 usd... Maybe I'd play with everyone for like a week when all the other normies are still playing cause their vtuber idols and streamer bros are still getting paid to pretend to care about the game. Of course i always assume the worst, im usually right after all, but I'm sure this isnt all bad, a decent 6/10 in a gaming world of concord(overwatch) and marvel rivals(overwatch again) and fucking... gachas. Completely unoriginal and definitely catering to the new-casual-audience that loves co-op hates invasions & love looter hero games. Rather than catering to the main OG fanbase that absolutely loves difficulty, invasions, pvp in general, punishments for trying to make your game experience easier (get invaded for co-op or in previous titles if you were “embered” you’d get invaded online). Fromsoft I know you guys have had large succes with Elden ring but it’s like you’re throwing your original fanbase to the side and purely catering to the new casuals who haven’t even played the dark souls games. We, the original fanbase, are the reason you made it this far you can’t just forget about us. Remove pvp bc ppl don’t like it? Add more spam bc ppl like it? Remove balance but add coop prioritized mechanics and leveling? World build around a used world (Elden ring) but make it 100% different? It’s like you looked at the new fanbase and said “we need something specifically for them” so you took the looter-hero route. The casuals aren’t special and you have great tropes across all games, don’t start changing what makes you different from all other studios. This is the first step to fromsoft losing their reign as the best ancient-story-telling-game-makers. Elden Ring Nightreign is the first step to the fall of Fromsoft’s reign.
