Elden Ring was the most fun I have had with sheep without getting arrested. Obviously there are other things you can do, apparently. Like hit people with axes, rob shopkeepers and smash things up. It is basically like your typical holiday in Spain. There are wizards though, so that’s a point knocked off right there.

I played through DS1 and Bloodborne, I invested 670 hours into DS3 and I am already at roughly 140 hours in Elden Ring. I am fairly experienced and I have overcome most if not all challenges in this game via direct confrontation, yet I would really love to see more of kilotons playthrough. I am honestly amazed by the sheer determination that many of your cheeses had to require. This is a really fair and justified review, from a fresh perspective, thank you!

@@abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz4839 add Malenia and Maliketh to the list of bs bosses (although for Maliketh you need to be very unlucky to get his bs RNG to trigger, so there is that) if not Maliketh you can add Godfrey 2nd phase Hoarax Loux to the table. Almost 0 opening windows. Only really 1 chance to attack and run away afterwards for 2 minutes just cause he can trigger combo after combo (of course here I am speaking solely on beating those bosses solo, with no cheesing strats or summons, purely one on one duels). Most of the late game bosses forget about stamina management, they can wind up those long ass combos like no tomorrow without breaking a sweat. This is the biggest crime in Souls game. Can we also agree on you're a Dark Souls 3 character with DS3 movement speed while bosses are Sekiro/Bloodborne speed. You can almost never keep up with them. I swear Miyazaki has lost touch of what made first Demon's Souls/Dark Souls games great. Now it's just making the game as hard as humanly possible with as many gimmicks as possible :/. Not fun, but tedious and frustrating with little joy at the end.

@@info0 Malenia and Loux were extremely difficult but even as a melee I found them to be fair, because it felt like I had chances and most of the time I could realize what I did wrong. Malenias Waterfowl dance attack alone felt like learning an entire bossfight however. Malekith was just BS, as you said, I have no clue how I died or survived attacks, I just so happened to win at some point, 5 tries in or so. If I am honest the later bosses all feel like the game doesn't want you to play melee anymore. Since almost all of the attacks are extremely long combos preventing you from any opening, meanwhile the bosses don't close gaps all that much, but more often than not even dash away from you after the combo ends. I enjoy the fights but they feel designed to be abused. Started a faith char in between the original comment and this reply and it is just an entirely different game. Black Flame, Bleed and Buff incantations make this games bossfights trivial for the most part.

@@AspiringDevil nah jounos arent wrong, its just one of the best games in the last decade and possibly of all time, you thinking its just a good game wont change that fact, you just didnt love it as much as the majority, its that simple. regardless of your weirdly anti journalist opinion, enough reviews, videos and forums outside of metacritic already prove that the majority agree. a 10 out of 10 doesnt mean a perfect game, no game is, but it means its flaws are pathetically small next to its giant triumphs. how about we stop pretending all those journos mean that its perfect with those 10s, i doubt that you even read a single review from them. get off the journo hate bandwagon and smell the roses friend. its a good time to a gamer.

great review yes, fair no. there are no fair reviews imo, only well constructed opinions, and theres enough reviews outside of metacritic and gaming journos to showcase that ER is one of the best games of the last decade and possibly more. kiloton also said that hes new to souls and his critiques come from that perspective. frankly speaking this is a love it or hate it series type of games. seems like most love it to death though. now on pc i do believe this game shouldnt have gotten a single ten cuz the port was freakin utter garbage and still is to a degree, but this game is so fucking unbelievably good that even the jaded, bitter, review bomb loving steam community still scored it 93% in its first week. i dont know why youre wondering about the 10/10s brah. it clearly deserves it, even though the game or some of its aspects turn some off.

Excellent critical review. I haven’t seen much undeserved dogpiling. Most reviews that get piled on were “game is trash, couldn’t beat the first boss, refunded” I think Elden Ring is a 10/10. Not because it’s perfect. There are no perfect games. It’s a 10/10 for the same reason Skyrim is 10/10. It delivers the maximum amount of enjoyment to the maximum amount of people.

I like your reasoning. Skyrim was worthy of that score as it is widely loved and enjoyed by loads of people not just usual gamers but I saw even Instagram models actually seriously playing it when it came out (not in an attention how way but casually posting an excited screenshot doing a late game quest) even grandmas were playing it. That’s a mark of a truly one in a thousand game. It had so much replay ability too. So many quests and fun story and so much to explore. I actually liked the glitches like potion infinite alchemy and super powerful spells because it actually made the game more fun lol

^-^ Thankyou, 21Kiloton! I've been waiting so long for a reviewer to finally mention the barmy "body type A/B" Nonsense creeping it's way into videogames within which the players are ostensibly supposed to be creating a character all your own. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't exactly want my character sheet to read like my character is some sort of model of android in my dark fantasy game, because that would seem to promote the antithesis of creative freedom and in-universe immersion. It's just blatant at this point that our hobby is being messed with by people that never loved it in the first place.

The worst thing is unlike other games little things sometimes matter in these games. Witch ring for example and they have had genderlocked items. So just having a panel tell me pick type A or type B with no context sent me into a panic. Thankfully a sex change option is in the game but you don't have to slay 2 ogres and jump in a coffin for like DS2. Also they took away my bottom heavy options too! At least they improved the vanilla ass model.

Oh man, I am excited for this one. Will be back in 1.5 with my thoughts (I'm a big FROM fan by the way) And I'm back. Random wall of text based on your review below in no particular order: tldr: extremely fair and accurate assessment (you maybe even went a little too easy on it!) Re:PC - i played on PS5, FROM isn't known for their PC ports (they are getting better at it though) so this isn't surprising to me but they will almost certainly fix this in the near future, they are very good about fixing things post release. One of the few devs left with integrity. i don't want to downplay the severity of it for the players on PC because i still find it inexecusable to release it in that state, but FROM is one of the few developers left with a modicum of integrity and they will make things right. With regards to defaulting to controller - I think this is because the majority of players use xbox controllers on PC but yea, I 100% agree that there are better ways to handle this. FROM really needs to hire some PC game devs - all of the issues you mention are relatively easy to fix and it just shows that their PC port was an afterthought. As an indie game dev myself, I always find it hard to understand why PC ports end up this way. I guarantee they are typing their code into an IDE on a Windows PC, most likely Visual Studio. If FROM is actually testing every change on a PS5 kit as opposed to just pressing Play on the PC build - iteration times are going to be way slower, but I'll bet that's how they develop it. Make change, compile for PS5, run on PS5 kit. My dev iteration is much faster because I dev and test on PC and annoying things become evident quite quickly and are addressed. This probably originates from the fact that the first souls game was on PS3 and they probably have continued development in a "PS first" fashion. I always get FROM games on PS for this reason - they tend to be the best optimized of the platforms they release on UI - I love the main game UI and its minimalism. I like that the map doesn't become overwhelmed with open world icons but I found map usability to be only serviceable, not great. I can't argue with all the problems you had on PC - on PS5 I really didn't have any major complaints. Camera - there's a saying in the soulslike community that the camera is the hardest boss in FROM games... you do get somewhat used to it however. It's mostly problematic with bosses in cramped environments or with bosses that jump around way too much and you fight locked on. Monetisation - FROM has always been respectable this way. They follow the "traditional" model of releasing a solid game for a fair price and IF they release DLC, it's always fairly priced and packed with tons of content. Lorewise - 100% agree with you on this one and I am glad that it's vague and not forced down your throat, better that than in your face cheesy overdone tropes and unskippable cut scene BS. I've played every souls like and have never understood the lore on these even after trying to watch videos on it. I don't care anyways - I play for the punishing combat/dark fantasy environments and not lore. I like knowing that the lore exists however - I feel like it gives structure to the world even if I have zero interest in it. Combat - kukiri aside ;) this is the reason I play these games. In my opinion the combat in souls games sets the bar for all other games. The sheer amount of flexibiliy presented is mindblowing. I personally think Elden Ring introduced a few too many new mechanics (e.g. the great rune stuff and *sigh* crafting) but they aren't forced on you and you can easily ignore them (some might not even know they exist) so I'm not going to complain. Difficulty - I always cringe when anyone brings this up because it's such a loaded topic. I'll just state my opinion about adding an "easy mode" which inevitably comes up at some point - I think it's a bad idea. FROM balances their games for a specific experience and my belief is that a difficulty slider would fuck up that balance/experience. In addition, FROM provides so many ways to get around the difficulty (summons+spirit ashes, cheesing, overleveling, magic, etc.) that I don't think the difficulty argument holds much weight. I think what people really mean when they play souls like games is that they are TOO VAGUE and I agree, but also would never want this to change. These games aren't difficult when you know WHAT to do, but knowing WHAT to do is difficult :) If Elden Ring had a popup which said "having too much trouble with that boss? go out and farm some souls, you should be level 15 to attempt it, and then proceeded to show you how to level/create a build" - people would be like ohhhh I'm underleveled, I need to invest in strength or vigor or whatever. But doing that would go against the spirit of these games. They are purposefully vague - which in my opinion is the true difficulty of them but also the appeal. My final thoughts on this whole topic is thus: not every game has to appeal to every player and anyone arguing that FROM should bow down to their personal desire for xyz feature is wrong myself included. FROM creates a game with a specific experience in mind. Part of that experience is the thrill of victory. The thrill of taking down a boss after hours/days of attempts is the reason a lot of people play these games. In conclusion, you picked the best entry to start with - this is by far the most forgiving in terms of retrying bosses with minimal/no backtracking required - they even introduced a new mechanic with the "stake of marika" which puts you right outside the boss arena. some of the older games were extremely punishing in this regard and while they all have had shortcuts that brought you back fairly quickly, you had to discover said shortcut first. I think your treatment was very fair and accurate. Nothing triggered my inner FROM fanboy. My personal "score" on this one is 9/10 ish. I think in comparison to its peers - it's easily 10/10 considering the state of the industry, however, I have a few minor complaints: I think the open world is hit or miss and can be a little bit repetitive. The overall art direction is 10/10 for sure - FROM creates beautiful fantasy environments and this is no exception. I still kinda prefer the smaller size and interconnectedness of the first Dark Souls. I understand that they have interconnected design here as well and some of the areas are truly amazing in their design, but like most open worlds, it's still got a lot of filler (just not as much as an ubi game). They definitely phoned in a bunch of bosses - mostly the ones in the dungeons but nevertheless, it got boring fighting variations of the same boss over and over. There are also a handful of bosses which I feel are only difficult due to boss arena or quantity - but this is kinda a FROM expectation at this point. That having been said, the overall quantity+quality of bosses in this one is leaps and bounds above past entries. Truly great work man. I am so glad you gave this game the time it deserves.

Thank you for all of that Patrick. Its very interesting hearing the opinions from someone who is a FROM fan, a veteran souls player and a dev. We will have to talk more about your game development on Patreon or Twitter mate. I am also frankly a bit relieved I was not totally off the mark. I shit ye not, it was not hyperbole when I said that there was a point where I was contemplating the possibility of having to do this review with ZERO bosses down. I constantly failed on the Tree Guardian and couldnt get past Margit either. Thanks to a few well timed words from a mate I stuck with it beyond the 10hour mark and then things started to shape up. Thanks to games like KCD and Valheim I know how to grind and explore and things started to come together. Im 125+ hours in now and retracing my steps in order to explore stuff that was too shit-the-bed-scary first time around. Re Launching the PC port in the current state: Im not happy about it but Im much more tolerant when the developer is both fixing it AND ethical. There is big difference between that and live service. Where the PLAN is to launch unfinished, and then do fixes dependent on whether the ingame shop is recouping money. Not gonna lie though, my blood boils every time I try to fast travel to the next grace, press up instead of down, and end up cycling through every last FT point until I go full circle ... in more time than it would have taken me to ride. I think you are onto something with the PC dev comment. Thinking about it, a lot of the porting issues I experience would fit that mould. eg the port is console driven and not PC driven. i.e. someone who knows consoles is transposing console functionality to PC and just wedging those 11 buttons and option-cycling ergos into corresponding "PC slots". If it was PC driven it would be bottom-up porting, where they would solve the problems differently because they would be trying to add PC keyboard and mouse functionality to the game (not just match 11 buttons up). God forbid they might even ask questions like "why cant I rebind all the keys?" or "why no hotkeys?" (I hope this all made sense.) UI Visuals: Not gonna lie, totally loved it. Right down to how some of it fades out when not required. Its more like playing through eyes, rather than a HUD. The minimalism was superb. Camera: Yeah it sucked balls. Ive almost got used to constantly having to micro-adjust downwards every time I move the mouse on horseback, but damn that cant be good for your brain or your hands. I seem to have vague memories of this from other games, perhaps Ghost of Tsushima. I think its some kind of normalisation thing, like a slow mouse-view-centering. It really needs to be shut off on PC although I can see why it might be great on a console controller. I also lolled about the camera-being-a-boss maxim. Yeah I feel ya. Difficulty: True true. There is a lot going on here, and a lot of soundbite debate on the interwebz. I saw Jim Sterling coming under attack for his "all games should have easy modes" thesis and frankly, I think that is a reasonable stance MOST of the time. But it falls down when the difficulty IS the core mechanic. I would also note that technically Elden Ring already has an "easy mode". Its called "go and kill sheep and explore until you find enough random kit and buy enough arrows and crap to beat the boss". I think the fact that I eventually started to succeed in Elden Ring is testimony to the fact that the game does not require an easy setting. Maybe it just needs a sign at the starting area saying "If you cant kill a boss go and level up dumbass" haha But yes, whilst I am a big fan of sometimes playing games on easy mode so I can enjoy the story and chill, the point of Elden Ring is matching your skills and gear to obstacles. (in whatever balance that may be). If you remove the obstacles you neutralise the game. Best entry to start with?: You wont get any argument from me. I have heard legendary tales about Souls games and frankly I was surprised that I enjoyed this so much, and actually managed to start progressing through the game. (a task made much easier by grinding out a load of gear and then hitting things with my giant maces.) re Score: Tough one. Its obviously too early to call game of the year, but I would say that Elden Ring has already established itself as the competition to beat. As for score, Im usually scared to score games directly because its the Devils Trap, but I semi-seriously gave this an 8.5 because score was critical to the discussion. As a newcomer to the series, and given the "heavy weight" writer they had on board, I would have liked a little more coherance with the story, although I agree with your sentiment that less is sometimes more: too MUCH narrative can sometimes stop the player writing their own story. That said I also factor in the state of the game, and frankly right now, its not fit for purpose on PC. I put up with a lot of high grade shit because the game was worth playing, but damn, I made a joke about a Thrustmaster Controller, and Im not even sure if the game might be more playable if I used one instead of my keyboard right now. It takes multiple keystrokes and mouse use just to turn on my lamp. Maybe I should send FROMSOFTWARE a bottle of Whiskey with the words "Hotkeys" written across the label. That said its hard to discuss this stuff without coming across like a PC master race asshole, but the porting was very shite indeed. So yeah, if I was forced, I would say 8.5, although they could raise that on PC by doing some grown up work on the port. Thank you very much for all of your feedback mate. Its very illuminating hearing the thoughts of someone that knows far more about the genre than myself. Glad I did not miss the mark. I went into this assuming this game was not my normal gig, and initially hated it. I was truly surprised when I actually started to enjoy it. I knew I was hooked when I found myself with twenty minutes spare and wanted to jump to go and try and find some new gear I saw in a guide. As you say, they created a beautiful environment here.

Most of your complaints about the UI can be summed up by - the game just wasn't meant to be played with keyboard & mouse. We've mostly just accepted this as PC players of these games, but you are absolutely right to call it out. I can see why they did it. Having a one-to-one mapping from controller buttons reduces the coding and testing complexity considerably, but From should have the resources to do keyboard & mouse controls properly by now. Maybe they'll listen this time and do it right next time.

Im a From software fan. I'm only a few minutes so I'll update with my complete thoughts but I always appreciate your reviews even we don't agree. Also there is this strange imaginary version of a DarkSouls fans. Check out the subreddit sometime. DarkSouls players love talking to people new to the series and will take time out of they're day to give new players advice. Remember the meme GitGud comes from an infamous conversation within the souls community with aggressive whiners who demanded unreasonable changes. Anyone who uses the GitGud as a serious statement is either trolling or to stupid to listen too. I'm currently on your PC control section of the video. I completely agree and most pc souls players have complained about this for years. I play on controller but it is on pc it needs decent keyboard and mouse controls. Edit post full watch. I haven't seen any well known Souls creators bullying over this game but sure some scum are because scum always exist. I've also seen people like QuantumTV blatantly lie about it to further support his narrative that Souls Players should kill themselves and are apart of a globalist conspiracy. I've noticed most bad journalists or KZbinrs say something incorrect or something someone disagrees with and then over react and label it a hate mob. Checkout Actman's EldenRing hot takes video or Fritingaplay's videos documenting EldenRing salt to see how hostile some people are to fromsoft fans and EldenRing. I agree with your video pretty much entirely. I was glad you brought up Upper Echelon's take on the reviews which he even called ahead of time. Most of these 10/10 reviews are garbage and undermined by those same journalists complaining about the game and how much they hate the game after they posted the perfect scores. Most souls fans are debating the changes between DS3 and EldenRing or how well The formula works for an open world, meanwhile journalists are pumping out 10/10 reviews where they say nothing about the game's mechanics, systems, ect, and complaining about it being racist, anti working class, anti globalist, ablist, and of course they're think pieces about how horrible from software fans are while never citing any examples because they don't to have they're victim hood questioned. Shout out to UEG and Actman for both calling most people are going to say the same things Souls players have been saying since DS1 and act like they are the first figure it out. As you noted and fans have been saying for over decade, the game is only as hard as you want it to be. Some play styles Excell at certain areas of the game and suffer in others. The souls games of always had a win is a win mentality. While people applaud displays of skill, they generally downvote and spit on people who complain about cheeseing bosses because it is an intentional mechanic. Summoms, ashes, and Arcane is literally a stat for people like 21kiloton. Arcane boosts status effect damage and how quickly it procs. People forget this is an rpg. The time spent leveling Arcane and getting a poison or bleed weapon is apart of the journey of playing through the game. There are alot of legitimate criticisms to throw at the game which is why it can be frustrating to see terrible essays on the series. Noah Gervais's retrospective on the series bugs some fans not because he is bad at the game, but because spend over hour and half complaining about strawman of DarkSouls players and saying objectively incorrect statements. My favorite was when he said DarkSouls fans will tell your supposed to be able to complete the game and are never allowed to level up or upgrade weapons. Then he got mad when people asked him who actually said that to him because those statements are not common among souls content creators or fan spaces. Since HDBOMBERGUY's infamous DarkSouls 2 video journalists and they're KZbin equivalent keep trying to establish this narrative that DarkSouls players are holding the series hostage and forcing Miyazaki to make games agianst his wishes, rather the reality. Miyazaki has found niche audience that wasn't being catered to and most souls like games fail to appeal too. That niche turned out to be pretty big but as the massive return and refund rare shows many people do not enjoy what the game offers. I like you picked up on the choices in design that have at this point become Miyazaki tropes. The Tree Sentinel was placed where it is to teach the player that backing down and coming back later is not only okay, but sometimes necessary. Of course the players love the fact that Miyazaki's approach means if you want to you can just stay and keep punching the brick wall until you can break it. The fact that players can just learn perfect mechanical execution or bumble threw is a freedom of choice most games don't offer. If a western AAA dev made this you would have a terrible unplayable cutscene Kung fu boss. Great review I think whole this game is more newb friendly. It needed more tool tips. I like the player now finds notes and can look at them anytime in the inventory, but the game doesn't communicate notes are important and as a result players can miss critical info. I think the player should have been given 1 of each crafting container and a starting recipe for each item type In the tutorial so players see what uses the system has rather ignore it. I've seen seen series vets fall into this trap or not knowing the mixed pyshic exists because both are new to the series. I'll stop criticisms there to shorten this Manifesto of a comment. I'll end by saying I hope you do one of your funny tips for new players video after you finish your playthrough.

I can say those perfect scores were always looking suspicious to me as I know most of reviewers didn't even get out of first area of the game, which is basically like a large tutorial. No reviews mentioned horrid PC performance, inability to change mouse and keyboard binds (you can't for example rebind map at all without using 3rd party app :/). If any reviewer got out of Leyndell and went to Mountaintops of the Giants, then MAYBE they would start to realise how much re-used content is in this game and how the difficulty spike goes NUTS. I would give this game 7.5 out of 10 right now.

As someone who has never played a souls game, I was on the fence about getting this game. I watched quite a few YT videos before finally taking the plunge (sick of buying games that aren't for me and not being able to refund because it takes more than two hours to figure it out). I'm an older gamer (55) with arthritis/carpal tunnel so I mainly play with a controller on PC (I would have found that as heresy when I was younger). I agree with your point about bad porting to PC kb&m layouts being a problem in the industry. Just started playing the game this morning and will be consulting a build walkthrough along with fucking around with the open world free exploring. I have a feeling this game will be my new crack for quite a while.

It's so refreshing to see an honest review (whether you agree or not). Too many simpletons that give this game a 10/10 while there are so many things wrong or could be improved. Don't get me wrong, it's a good game in general (i've logged over 300 hours and counting) but it's wonky as hell. Been complaining about consoleports for years, mainly for the shitty practice of adding shared button controls like mentioned in the video. Love ya, bro. I've been a souls nerd for a few years now. I know you newboys are in this weird place where you want advice and want to learn, but at the same time when a vet gives you advice it irritates you. I get it. But lemme respond to a few sporadic statements: 1) "You get one-shotted a lot." All of the souls games are pretty darn fair, and they all employ this same type of education through hardship. If you're getting one-shotted you need to ask yourself what you can do to not get one-shotted, and the short answer here is you need to level Vigor. You need more HP. It's the most important stat in all of the souls games for precisely this reason. Baddies hurt. A lot. So get more HP. 2) Regarding the story, yeah they're all vague nonsense, but I enjoy the aesthetic of it. It's mysterious in an edgelord sort of way and I appreciate the charm of it. 3) Nobody is good at souls at first. And even vets get destroyed by bosses and hard enemies. So don't beat yourself up about thinking you're bad at the game. 4) I don't get the widespread reviewer shit giving on the PC Port. I play it on PC. I've not noticed ANYTHING about it. I get a little stuttering here and there but mostly very smooth and good looking. Is it because you're using a mouse and keyboard? Look Fromsoft has NEVER done good with kbm. Oh well. The games are just too damn good for me to take points away for this, when controllers are better anyways for a game like this. 5) You keep coming back to the pc port complaints, but really it boils down to mouse and keyboard controls. I know you'll scoff at this but seriously just use a controller like the other 99.9% of people playing this game. If you were to load up a flight sim and complain about mouse and keyboard controls when it was designed for a HOTAS, I'd tell you to get a HOTAS. 6) There should never be a soulsbornering easy mode. The SOUL of these games are difficulty, because it is a journey of self-improvement. Literally built into the mechanics and lore. In the other souls games, those NPCS that attack you? They couldn't beat the game either. They gave up and turned into shells, empty zombies. The game is absolutely going to frustrate you, and piss you off. But then when you "cheese" a boss or use your noggin one way or another to beat the boss, you've overcome the challenge and grown. You've looked within yourself and used abilities unique to you to overcome it. That's the whole point. 7) *placeholder for anything else I hear :) *
@torahibiki
@torahibiki 2 жыл бұрын
This. I agree wholeheartedly. No hard feelings or anything when you keep dying and try get a little advice. But when you go out and complain that a) the gameplay and UI is terrible and b) that the game story and learning curve is too obtuse in front of the souls community. You're just asking people to pull the "git gud" card. Like going to the worng neighborhood. There are just things you gotta use a bit of common sense for. No souls player thinks the gampley and camera and user experience is the holy grail on thier first playthrough. But after they beat it they're so used to it that if they change it too drastically, it will cheapen their achievements.

@@ZeroFallout1 Thanks. The way I look at it is the developers put all the weapons, spirit ashes, and sorceries in the game, not only so we'd be able to fight the enemies, but also to make the experience more enjoyable. For example: I earned Mimic Tear fair and square, slogging through Ranni's Quest under-leveled. So I don't feel bad summoning her, when I'm having trouble staying alive against a dragon that spews rot-breath in a 30m radius. Does it make some bosses easier? Without a doubt. But it doesn't really take anything away from the ever increasing difficulty, as one progresses through some of the mid/late game areas. The game doesn't play fair, so why should gamers be expected to?

You can more or less set the difficulty of Elden ring by yourself through exploring the world and getting the better gear, this is what (imo) makes Elden ring better than something as ds3-ds1, because it allows for people who are new to the souls game to get a feel for the challenge without throwing them into a bloodbath of razor wire and a blender fusion, as an example for ds3, faron abyss watchers, you cant just move on or past them with your mediocre gear and + 5 weapon max, the best you can do is explore the deacons church witch other than levels provides no extra better or additional armament to use whereas in Elden ring you can explore, level up, get better amour and get different spells, it makes the game a complete blast finding out new ares, hell after 104 hours i still have found new places in Elden ring.

I think you'd enjoy the game a lot more if you give up on the weird self imposed restriction of not using a gamepad, even if you're not used to it, you you could easily, I mean would you play a light gun with a gamepad? Of course not, I think the same applies here, while the developers are definitely to blame for not putting in any effort in trying to translate the experience to keyboard and mouse, most of these games are designed with a gamepad in mind and using one would make the experience on par with consoles Nice review, keep it up

Great review! It's good to know that to expect when you play on PC. There's a huge PC market, so I assume they would fix keybind issues as fixes come out, or not. My own thought about the straight line gush 10/10 ratings may have more to do with the blatant disregard for money sucking micro-transactions. This one is buy once, play. That's it. Good for them. The game looks beautiful with plenty to explore if this is your kind of thing.

@@torahibiki that;s bs. Go to Steam and read how bad stuttering is. I have Unlimited Cache size selected in NVCP too. Vastly surpass recommended requirements for the game and the game still stutters in wrong places (like boss fights). It is way better now than it was at launch tho, so it's definitely game engine problem and not hardware you may have. RTX 3080 issues were a thing in Elden Ring for a good chunk of time, remember that.

Even then, this game has issues with controller as well. The fucking lock on and flying bosses are such an obvious weak point, i started to wonder if they did any damn QA on this game. Hell, even DS 3 had issues with the Nameless King Bossfight and his dragon, but this is just highlighting how broken these mechanics really are. I seldom get killed by getting pit against a wall like before, but grabbed out of a dead spot and getting killed here is even more infuriating. It is puzzling me how many just overlook flaws which date back to god-damn Demon's Souls and From will not get better at fixing these fundamental issues as well, if that is the echo they are getting over and over again. Fuck me..

To explain the rationale of the lore style a bit: Miyazaki grew up reading westerm fantasy books that were a little advanced for him, and he could often only understand half the Kanji. This let to him using his imagination to fill in the parts of the story he couldn't decipher. It became a style he liked, and enjoyed incorporating his own elements. He takes this approach in his games. I'd venture that 85% of the lore is buried in item/armor/weapon descriptions. It's done to a degree where if you alter an armor piece, the item description will often change to provide more lore. The other 15% usually comes from exhausting NPC dialogue. Dark Souls 3 was extremely obscure until the DLC was released, then the story became much more complete. This is something common in From Software games and I assume the DLC will reveal a lot more about the world and events. I very rarely agree with your assessment of games, but I really enjoy your videos.

For a first timer I recommend using guard counters with a shield that blocks 100% physical damage. At least if you want to do lots of stagger to the enemies so you can do those badass critical attacks. But really glad you are enjoying yourself. 👍😄 Edit: Also forgot to say thank you for the criticism of the mainstream game reviewers. The camera thinking it knows best was really what stopped me from playing it at first. Had to wait for the modders to do the job of removing it. But then about a month after I hear that fromsoft added it to the game themselves. Blew my fucking mind. I feel that fromsoft is just like nintendo. They're about 5-10 years behind tech wise. Next game will still have a shit camera, but at least the key icons will be in something I'm actually using.

It is good to have people addressing issues with a fresh look upon the game. I for one, because I played all of the other games available on PC (with mouse and keyboard), have not felt the control issues as much, I am not saying its a good thing I didn't notice, getting used to something even if its bad does not excuse it from not improving, but I do want to say that compared to the other games Elden Ring did improve and hope they will continue to do so. Hell the original Dark Souls needed a mod for it to be even viable with keyboard and mouse.

I'm sure Elden Ring is a great game, but I have two things I can't get past about it. 1. It's so dark I can't read the damn menus. i know this is an intimately personal gripe but if I can't read or see what the feck is going on, how the bloody hell am I supposed to play? Ask my girl friend to crank the brightness up? nah she'd rather do something more fun. 2. the story doesn't want to be told, it wants to hide in tiny bits that are hidden throughout the world. no. just, no. If you're going to tell a story then tell a story, don't dangle shit around and pretend it's impressive, it's just wasting my time. I can now add a 3rd with controls that want to be as sadistic as the bosses. Kudos are deserved there, that in itself is an impressive feat. =)

Far from perfect since there is no such thing in life but one of the most memorable and rewarding experiences that the gaming industry has provided in a very long time. Couldn't wait to hear your take on this even though I knew that you are going to play it on PC which is unfortunately not the same experience as on PS5. Fromsoft games are Console games and even though I wanted to play it on my PC I knew the Console version will be the "better" way to go. I have rolled a fat one,poured me self a glass and I'm strapped in for this Killoton ride. Put on your diapers, pull out your butter knife and go kill a God. Elden rings grind emphasis more on stat requirements to use better weapons to do more damage, then just grinding stats to do more damage outright, grinding runes/souls to level up slows down considerably quicker then previous games as you only get enemies closer to endgame that's worth farming souls for, which I guess is for preparation for ng+ Tldr: just bump up the VIT stat and enjoy the exploration, until you find the weapon(s) you like

Magic is not that OP as you said. 1. Spell range is really low, like half of bow range or even less. While NPC spells range is like unlimited. 2. They cost a lot of FP and since it does not regen you can easy deplete all your flasks while boss is still up.

Just watched this! Great and fair points across the board. What a shame the PC port is such assitry. I felt betrayed with the PS4 Cyberpunk release and you equally should feel betrayed for the state of the release. Some people give normal people a bad rep. A huge part of their games for me and everyone I know is working together and helping others out. I'll spend fifty hours on a character putting down my summoning sign to help others on key bosses and hard levels. Any new player should reach out online and there are a ton of us who would love nothing more than to make a new character and go on a new journey with a new mate. With all the mechanics, it can be overwhelming to new players. Having someone to play along with, not just actually playing in their world, but learning along with them, can make it easier and more enjoyable. Keep up the good work dawg.
