The difference in Rennala's expression and character between phases was very striking to me. It's like she went from a mad, almost child-like sorceress to a regal, graceful monarch. It's something I haven't seen a whole lot of people talk about but it's stuck with me pretty well.

So, I think Rennala is dead. The start of that Phase 2... That is EXACTLY what our spirit ash summons do. Theres even a slight chime coming from behind Rannis voice. She even says "you will not disturb my mothers slumber" I mean, its gotta be right? Ranni gave us the spirit summon ability. She is puppeting Renalla, Making sure everyone thinks Renalla is still alive. Plus like, Rennala is the full moon queen. Ranni is the darkmoon princess. But there is one moon, and its half full. Like the full moon and dark moon were one.

@@darkhobo I thinks Phase 2 is all an illusion, since after we killed the Phase 2 Rennala we still see her caring for the "Egg" unharmed, still tending to her grim art and even offering us the opportunity to be reborn

@@micoalfonsop.goloran7242 so you think its a brand new type of magic unseen anywhere else. And it looks and acts exactly like another type of magic that we have seen elsewhere? And youre basing this on what exactly? A feeling? Why is it so hard to say "oh Ranni, Selvius, and Sellen are all puppets, Rennala might be one too" I don't see how people arent seeing it. You have to actively ignore the evidence.

I love how she doesn't die after you beat her but becomes an ally NPC. I wish more Fromsoft Bosses did this. So many of them I do not want to kill but the game forces you to, when 30 seconds to explain yourself could have diffused the situation.

The reason I believe she didn't die, is because I believe you didn't fight her at all. I believe you fight Ranni, desperately trying to keep the illusion alive of her mother as a mighty regent sorceress, who in reality is just crawling on the floor towards the egg the whole time you're in that moon fight (just my 2 cents, no evidence other than "it makes sense to me")

@@AyakaruJuuhachi I've heard that theory and I think you are right. I still would like to see more boss fights that don't result in death for the foe. Like, If only we could have beaten Quelaag and then talked to her. I ended up joining her cult and helping her sister anyway so her death was completely pointless.

I believe when Radagon left Rennala he did a lot more damage then what we see. After he left Rennala and gave her the Amber Egg she was reduced to what we see her as. The mages of Raya Lucaria, who once held Rennala in high regard, were disgusted at what Rennala had become and so probably came to the conclusion that the royals were weak and caused the split from the royal family, which lead the royals sending the Cuckoo knights and Soldiers to bring the Academy to heel. Raya Lucaria shut itself off and the Cuckoo forces destroyed the mage town. Although what I don't know is where have all the Carian Royals gone. Also why have all the Carian Roytals gone yet the mages of Raya Lucaria remain.

I'm not sure if anyone agrees, but I am of the stance that you don't fight Rennala in the second phase, but her daughter, Ranni Ranni is a strong mage, undoubtedly, and her mother, while being hailed a sorceress queen, is a but a shell of her former self, completely absorbed by the care of the egg. She barely even acknowledges you in the first phase. So I believe Ranni saw her mother collapsed, dragging herself on the floor to reach the egg, so she intervened and tried to keep up the illusion that Rennala was still a mighty and fearsome sorceress
