Fun fact: that is where the second phase of Godfrey is stored. When you hit that second phase cutscene, they teleport the character up to the boss arena as the fade to black happens

That's just how phase 2 boses work, elden beast is directly below the erd tree, Melaketh is probably somewhere under his bossroom, and Malenia under hers. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Malenia is actually the exception I believe, she doesn’t use a separate model for each of her phases, just changes the existing one. Pretty sure that’s why both of her phases count as a single boss in randomiser unlike all other multiphase bosses which count as 2 separate bosses - because unlike all of them, her phases are 1 entity and untangling that would just be too much effort
