First of all, thank you for cranking out these videos. I have been following your guides since DA: Inquisition, and you have become the standard for RPG guides for me. I love the Fighter, Mage, Thief triad, and I love the hybrids(Fighter/Mage, Fighter/Thief, Mage/Thief) even more. My favorite is the Fighter/Thief, or "Duelist" archetype(kind of like the Silent Sister from Inquisition). Hits hard at all ranges with physical damage, moves fast, high single target damage with 1 or 2 AOE options, and can take a hit and/or parry damage. Little to no magical talent, but can possible shut down mages with anti-caster gimmicks. Have you made a build like this in Elden. If so, send the link. If not, please consider making one and adding it to this amazing collection of builds. Thanks, and keep growing bro! You have a long term subscriber!

If you start as a confessor you can easily combine this build with paladin/templar build. The merchant in Mistwoods sells medium shield 'Blue-Gold Kite Shield' for 1000 runes, that has 100 damage reduction and also reaches 65 guard boost, although a little bit latter because only at +24, in return it only requires 12 strength, so you don't have to spend even one point in that stat and you can still rely on guard counter.

They nerfed the azur comet skill dmg by 30% and the fire skill dmg by 22.2%. I had to switch builds because it was so strong that it wasn't even fun for me. I switched back after patch and now it's much more reasonable. You feel rewarded for getting the skills off with really good damage, but not so much damage that you're just spamming it over and over HP be damned. They both *feel* better than a lot of spells, but they're also just slow enough that you could use faster spells and get a similar and safer damage output. Amazing skills if enemies line up, or are spread out in front of you. Unsafe against fast, aggressive, and/or competent enemies. If an enemy can side-step, you aren't hitting the beam attack mid-combat. Using the fire skill mid combat with multiple enemies will probably get you killed. IMO it's much more balanced now with reasonable damage and drawbacks.
@arturo9292 жыл бұрын
@@Allanfallan for me it felt more like a 50% dmg reduction in the commet skill, my moonveil does way more dmg to the point where that sword is just collecting dust
@Allanfallan2 жыл бұрын
@@arturo929 Moonveil has the better skill overall anyways. The real strength of the weapon is the int/fth scalin naturally and high attack power. Ancient Death Rancor is one of the most underappreciated spells in the entire game imo. I'm glad to see an INT/FTH build based around Dual wielding the Night and Flame and using Death Staff + GO Seal. I've been playing it for awhile now since the patch and it just feels so good. Get a friend to drop you a second Night and Flame. It's huge if you don't want to wait to try this until NG+. With this build you have the option to cast basically any spell you want with the amazing scaling off of the Death Staff and Golden Order Seal. At the same time you can just whip out the dual N+F and absolutely melt everything in melee. The swords aren't very big though, so you really gotta get into the danger zone if you're dual wielding these. If anyone is interested, a level 150 stat spread should look something like this (with Confessor start): 40 Vigor 25 Mind 27 Endurance (Stam for dual wield, and enough to carry dual N+F, Brass Shield, Death Staff, GO Seal, and Gelmir Knight Set + Greathelm) 16 Strength (Req for Brass Shield) 12 Dexterity 50 Intelligence 50 Faith 9 Arcane No talismans required. The points in Endurance are personal preference for equip weight and because dual wielding takes a lot of stamina. If you like to spam spells more you might want to add more Mind. You could also go more INT/FTH to push closer to the soft cap to get more damage.

The high AR is because it has triple split. Each split will be affected by a different resistance which are the usual physical then magic and fire. So a weapon with a single damage type like physical will only have to overcome a single res stat meanwhile a weapon split between 3 damage types will have to overcome 3 res stats. Which is why on an enemy with similar resistances for each damage type, a weapon with 500 on a sinhle damage type will outperform a weapon with 500 ar split between multiple damage types. Split damage weapons have been like this since the days of Demon’s Souls, their high AR is a bit deceptive because in reality they also face effectively higher resistance. Of course there are exceptions, some enemies are weak to specific damage types.
@shonixgaming30762 жыл бұрын
Yeah, this weapon has a huge problem against Mohg since he heavily resists fire and has a rather middling resistance against magic, leaving most of the damage on the physical part of this. But because this weapon requires you to build Int and Faith, you should be able to use a spell to bypass it.
@NgocLinhNguyen2 жыл бұрын
The resistances in previous games are flat values, while in ER they are percentage-based. Each enemy in ER has different "absorption" for different type of damages. Typically, absorption for physical is lower than that for other damage types. For example, many bosses have 10% absorption for physical, and 20% for magic/fire/lightning. While at the same AR, a pure physical weapon still outperforms split damage weapons, it's not as bad as previous games anymore. A flame art Uchi with 200 physical AR + 400 fire AR will deal 200 * 90% + 400 * 80% = 500 damage. To reach this number, a physical Uchi must have at least ~555 AR. As a ballpark, a split damage weapon with 10% more AR will outperform a pure physical weapon. In previous game, the split damage weapon would have to have WAY more AR.
@Ken_Jones2 жыл бұрын
Exactly this. And that's why no one is talking about it. However, it's a good weapon and nice build.
@smokeythebeast82882 жыл бұрын
@@Ken_Jones yeah but unlike previous games split is different I thought this went by percentage opposed to flat and if that is the case that changes everything. Either way at plus 10 pure physical damage outstrips three of my plus-7 greatswords which is kind of silly considering you attacked so much quicker. And I am not talking about a r I am talking about physical damage numbers. If I'm being completely honest it's taking a little bit to adjust to changes and I'm not even going to get into the fact that some of these weapons are janky and the numbers just plain out do not add up when you do the math summer hitting harder than they're supposed to some lighter and I have no explanation for this. Being kind of a number geek and a person that likes everything to fit into its place and have everything be mathematically sound this type of crap drives me nuts especially like I said previously when numbers are not matching up the way they are supposed to and I have encountered it on numerous separate occasions and even taking the opponents damage negation into account the numbers sometimes just plain out don't make sense
@abednegokurio92442 жыл бұрын

I've been playing with a similar build, one thing I feel I need to point out is that regular Rancorcall is waaaay more FP efficient than Ancient Death Rancor, and is viable as a more spammable damage spell. I also love Adula's Moonblade for AoE situations as a kind of mixed advancement of both Carian Greatsword and Glintstone Arc

given that your faith stat would be wasted levels if left alone it' probably best to pump faith at high levels causing prince of death staff & golden order seal to become stronger. if you have levels to spare some arcane can let you opt into rot & ice breath attacks. at that point you're practically an omnicaster that can do faith / sorc as well as having a melee option. I initially went for a paladin build, inspired a bit by your beginner guide. I focused heavily on endurance, strenght, and faith for a heavily armored and shielded guy (this is also my first souls game, so wanted to survive). I kept trying weapons but couldn't seem to get off the starting broadsword. I eventually got around level 85 and I thought my broadsword wasn't putting out enough damage and was making fights more difficult than they had to be. So, I respec'd into endurance, faith and int (for night and flame), and just enough strength to wield the icon shield when using the +5 strength amulet. And now I'm just whipping through the world, I love it. I still mostly focus on melee, but I do use the sword arts when the opportunity arises. I actually use the flame attack most, as I tend to use it when I'm surrounded. Also, intelligence offers a ton of great damage utility that I was missing in my faith based melee. I also love the shield buff magic spell, as it works great with the icon shield that can't get the barricade ash of war. Also, Icon is a great shield for the sword of night and fire because you don't need to switch it off due to it not allowed to have a skill. Anyways! Loved seeing your take on this and I'm constantly impressed with this game and the so many different ways you can play.

I only needed to use the beam from the SoN&F for opener, like this: Buff, Elden Stars, SoN&F, powerstance. It worked against every boss, even those that were supposed to be resistant to holy damage. Faith builds are SO good in this game

I dont have the cat imp head, but I do have the Queens Crescent crown you get from the Fingers lady at the Roundtable hold. It's better than the olivinus glintstone crown as it gives the same Int boost, without the sacrifice of anything else.

Are you planning on doing a lvl 100 build revolving around the blasphemous blade? love your videos!

Likely will get there at some point.

Given the staff and seal of this build you're really best off keeping faith and intelligence balanced. It's very tempting to pump up one or the other but you lose significant AR and aren't maxing your staff and seal. For dual welding you can use Crystal Sword, Golden Epithet or something else you like. Dropping duplicates is meh imo. Comet skill is great, but faster bosses can dodge. Flame art won't miss ;) key to this build is not over leveling Mind, ironically. You want to increase damage and not miss. For buffs I like to stack them after using a flask which has cerulean hidden tear, which means no fp cost for 30 seconds. Now I'm charged up with full fp and tons of health.

I mean you want to increase your health, not damage.

Hey man, I found your comment really insightful. How would my stats at lvl 100 look like if I balanced the stats like you said? What is optimal?
@maiknocon7732 жыл бұрын
get great shard of alexander instead of godfreys icon. 20% increased dmg to all skills so the laser will benefit greatly

New build ideas I've theorycrafted in my mind: Beast build (talk about strengths of bestial incantations and the cinquedea), Frenzy build (talk about strengths of inflicting madness), serpent/poison build (talk about strengths of inflicting posion), St. Trina build (talk about strengths of inflicting sleepiness); there's a lot of spells/incants/armaments that involve these status effects and niche damage types, and it would be sick to see builds around them! Love your work cas + fextra, you guys rock

I've actually been off-handing the Sword of St. Trina with the Sword of Night and Flame and the sleep procs are phenomenal even there

You can pack A LOT of utility into this build late game with the stat spread these weapons/catalysts encourage you to push. Law of Regression, healing incantation of choice, Golden Vow, Ancient Death Rancor (magic), Adula’s Moonblade (frost), Lightning Spear (lightning), Black Flame (fire), Radagon’s Ring of Light (holy), AND the awesome weapon art skills. By far my favorite setup to play the game with in the late game and NG+. Only thing you’re really lacking is bleed. Haven’t died in my second journey yet, and now I have my second SNAF for when I just wanna power stance them. Absolutely filthy build!

Just a random tip related to Golden Vow. The Golden Vow weapon art can be used in any melee weapon and it costs less FP than the actual spell, not to mention its cast speed is far faster in the form ashes of war. It's a good idea to keep a Dagger (or whatever 1.5w thing) with it, and just use it to cast it.
@kiorodjirane85172 жыл бұрын
If you use incantation you don't really need that. Golden Vow is only used before fighting for Boss fight or Hard fight. And on either of this case the FP consomption and casting time are irrelevant.

I have no idea why people are giving this guys builds so much hate on the wiki. Some of these builds (especially carian battle kage and deaths poker build) have helped me a lot. Even in pvp against those annoying pesky bleed users

Not going to lie, I've been browsing other builds looking for a replacement to SoNaF because I felt it was ruined from the update, but now that you are still signing off on it, I may just have to give it another chance. Masterful build as always!

Ruined? Gotta play with it. I hardly felt the change because its one od the best, most versatile weapons in the game.

If you can get the Lazuli Glintstone sword, it works well with the Sword of N&F. I dual wield both and am wrecking bosses, and I'm not a mage build.

There's one aspect of this build that people keep SAYING is true but I'm not really seeing in practice: Ancient Death Rancor and how great it is at staggering. ... Well I'm not really seeing it do much of anything. Am I misunderstanding something? I've seen it work against humanoids (and humanoid bosses, as long as they're not on horseback... these had no effect on the Draconic Tree Sentinel, Valiant Gargoyle, nor any Lesser Runebears, for example). Let me be descriptive: When they get hit with skulls, I don't see them wince from the impact the way humanoids do. Their attacks are 100% uninterrupted, continuing like the skulls are just doing the tiniest sliver of damage that they're doing. Their stance never breaks either - depleting my FP bar multiple times to hopefully achieve this effect to no avail... It could be that I'm misunderstanding what "stagger" means, but I'm hoping someone could elaborate here... Perhaps it was a patch that nerfed this spell? I'm going to experiment with spells that fextralife lists as particularly effective at breaking stances in the meantime...
@sykomos11 ай бұрын
Sigh... I figured out the problem, but it's not the cheese mode being described. I uhhh didn't realize I could hold the cast button down longer to cast a more powerful version of the spell. This is apparently called "charging" a spell. it does fairly decent damage, actually, and Ancient Death Rancor being the heat-seeking missile barrage that it is can be pretty helpful as a last-ditch cheese-mode for killing bosses because you can just keep your distance and whittle them down with it. But - I thought the point of this spell was stagger more than it was damage. And to that I say - ehhhhh even when charged I only see it staggering lesser enemies or humanoids. When you get invaded by an npc, it's a perfect spell to use on 'em to interrupt their attack animations. But poise is poise, and enemies with high poise don't care about your skull-slinging. Bottom line - it's a decent damage per sp, but stagger really isn't all it's cracked up to be. IMO the major improvement here would be towards finding a spell set that breaks stance so you have lots of free comet hits.

man the melee damage dual wielding those swords looks nuts!!! ive been running an arcane bleed build and i do like bleed and some of the arcane spells but damn those swords look sick and the weapon art looks fun to use as well. sort of making me want to switch and try that build out

Using this now for a while, its awesome :) lasering never been so much fun. If you ll have time, would be interested in a 130 (150) version where to evolve, bests. ps: i advise u do some bleed+X builds, bleed+cold, bleed+fire etc.
