But its really up to you, the game itself wont tell you how you can change up your gameplay. if you want more than just dogde and spam attack, you'll have to mess with magic and art of war to make your gameplay more variable and make more opportunities for yourself to take advantage enemy openings.

Some games are just art and flaws or tech problems won't take away that. People can complain about about the horse or aiming in Shadow of the Colossus or the aiming in Silent Hill 2, nothing can take away how special and "something else" those masterpieces are 🤷‍♂️

These “flaws” are just limitations of the tech of the time. Sure, there are better graphics available today, but they know not everyone has a PS5. Even if this game was 32bit it would still be a masterpiece. The fact that it released alongside a graphically top knotch game proves that at the core, it’s the gameplay that makes a game

Because it's amazing that's why. As a veteran souls player it's absolutely a 10/10. FromSoft took pieces of all their work and put it into an open world formula with the tightest mechanics we've seen yet. Praise the sun 🌞

No run backs to bosses is a game changer. Granted, some of the toughest From bosses in the past had close checkpoints and I wound up spending 3+hour on some of them.

@@prototype8137 While I far prefer close bonfires/checkpoints to boss arenas, I have plenty of memories of the tension of running to a boss, or deciding if I should keep my souls to level, before exploring further, whenever a fog wall appeared. ..but there’s ARE plenty of tedious examples (Quelaag, O&S without stair skip, Flexile Sentry, Bed of Chaos, Twin Princes elevator, False King Allant elevator etc) and straight bad examples (DS2 DLC optional bosses, Darklurker, 4-2, One Reborn without teleport.. and Micolash could/should have been next to the fog wall) The bad outweighed the good, but I’ll still look back on the runs fondly. Made the first playthrough more nerve wrecking and immersive.

the fact this is fromsoft's first open world game. They kept the appealing features and world building from their previous titles, while filling a world with interesting things. ( They trust the player to find stuff on their own )- something most devs don't do nowadays. It's not a map with marked objectives, so it's not just a lazy checklist simulator. It's about exploration and cutting your own path. Open worlds have been so lazy in recent years, so seeing fromsoft knock this game out of the park is worth the high reviews. I don't play games for long stretches anymore as my ADHD kicks in, but I've had this game 27hrs and I've clocked 17hrs so far. Pretty much played non stop aside from sleeping and eating.. just woke up and all I want to do is keep playing.

My sentiments EXACTLY. Couldn’t have said it better myself. The open world design is just flawless and full of wonder. No one telling me to go somewhere and complete a quest, or kill some chickens or collect some wood and run back to quest giver. I’m the agent of this world and I get to choose where to go and what to do FOR MYSELF. I’m in love with it.

I will call Elden Ring the triple D open world experience, cause it has boatloads of Discovery, Density and Diversity...it's a one of a kind open world, I don't remember an open world feeling this exciting to explore or evoking feeling of genuine adventure since Dragon's Dogma's fantastic open world (The vanilla one). Dragon's Dogma is such an underrated gem of a game, hopefully Capcom will stop fooling around and get to making a proper sequel to it after seeing the success of Elden Ring.

I always wanted to get into a souls style game, but never did because I was nervous. With Elden Ring I bit the bullet and tried it out. Omg is this game good! I'm barely 10 hours in and am completely hooked. I'm not very good as you can imagine from someone with no experience with these types of games, but I still can't put this game down. I do feel myself learning the ropes and it's incredible to kill a boss you've been stuck on forever. Even if you might feel like the game might be to difficult, try it anyway! I'm so happy I did! 😁

You can run away and level up which makes this game a little friendlier for new players. If your on PS5 I recommend Demon souls remake. Graphics are insane. When you feel crispy try Sekiro. Hardest platinum and game I think I've played. Welcome to suffering

You have no idea, I spent +30 hours in Limgrave thinking I found everything and that it's safe to watch other streamers playing that part of the game now. Only to find out that they continuously finding stuff I somehow missed in Limgrave, it's really crazy how dense and full of secrets this world is, truly spectacular.

Guy at the bottom said at 14ish minutes “I tried sekiro and bloodborne and I played an hour and wasn’t good at it.” Dude it took me a while to get good at sekiro, as with everyone. They are specifically designed to take time for you to learn. Nothing is worth being good at if you could pick it up in 1 hour and be good. Think how long it takes just to learn to dribble a basketball. Why is it a bad thing if it takes effort? I mean do you but I’ve never understood the mindset. My ex wife was that way. If she wasn’t immediately The Michael Jordan of whatever activity she would quit.

You're right but some people are fast learners. They only ever succeed in life and hence get disheartened at first failures and think of themselves as losers even though they are not. Souls games are all about picking yourself up and going for it, not giving up even after a failure.

Sekiro is basically a rhythm game. If you don't master that parry you're done. It's one of my least favorite From games along with Dark II/III. Not saying they're bad games, just that they didn't do for me what Demon's, Dark, and Bloodborne did for me. I think Eldin Ring is the culmination of all of this. I can't wait to play it.

@@w1nch3ster1 Loved the world design and alot of the ideas in Sekiro. Though I did complete Sekiro, I felt like I had to exploit EVERY encounter and the combat just never clicked for me. I didnt make a real effort to learn it properly as I just tried to exploit all the bosses. I played Ninja Gaiden Black at a high level in the past, but the delayed input response on the combat in Sekiro never clicked with me. I can appreciate alot of what it did, but in the end it felt like a massive grind for me that I was glad to add to the KILL list and be done with. Looking forward to this game in a few hours. Loved the Souls combat even though it is a little more delayed and tactical then a regular hack n slash game, and of course Bloodbourne. The more open world looks like it adds alot to the formula. Bloodborne probably has my favorite combat out of the FROM games. It felt a little faster and more precise than other souls games. It seems like this game builds off of that further.

To try and answer the question about the main difference - for me as someone who tried to get into every other From game but couldn't, I think I can boil it down to one simple observation. In all previous games I felt that the game world hated me - which was fine and lend itself to great sense of atmosphere and accomplishment - but also that the game itself hated me for trying to play it. Here I feel that they kept the feeling of the oppressive game world while at the same time making the game itself the complete opposite. I still feel the world is trying to kill me, but finally the game itself is my ally in this - not another foe. So it grants me many more options, many more things to do, it just likes me. Miyzaki likes me for a change. That's a good feeling and I think that changes everything.

Over a hundred hours in and still veey much hooked. Souls veteran, I am wary of changes and new things. Sekiro gave me headaches and IK+ ding ding ding flashbacks. Elden Ring is different. I missed so much stuff I had to rake notes for NG+. That's a first for me and I'm loving it.

From Software really perfected both ends of the spectrum with the open world. One minute it’s sweaty palms fighting a giant boss on the edge of your seat, the next you are on your horse strolling through a dense forest with sunlight peeking through the trees collecting resources. It’s breathtaking

The great thing about this open-world is that not only are there giant areas to explore, but you still have those classic Dark Souls levels. All of those Legacy Dungeons and castles are as big as an entire Dark Souls level

Here's the thing the game does have bugs and frame drops, but in no way does it distract from how beautiful and fun the game actually is, this game genuinely fun exploration is very much the best every new area feels intimidating and I Don't know how to explain it but it's magical.

I'm pretty sure I found a "wrong" way to play the game: jump in without learning what "target lock" is and try to fight enemies without it. Still had fun, tho.

That is great way to fight groups of enemies. Lock on helps if you fighting one.on one. If it is difficult terrain lock on can be obstucle. Sorry for bad english, Best of luck onward to become Elden Lord :)

I am almost a newb (having played only about 10 hours of DS2) but I went with Wretch, and have been having a blast. You start with nothing, and I just explored to my heart's content, learned the controls, and looted and looted and looted.

Samurai is a fantastic starter. Has a fantastic starting weapon and weapon skill, great melee stat distribution, and gives you a ranged weapon right off the bat.

I think PC issues were overlooked too much by reviewers. It's ok to have minor issues but there were lots of glaring ones like the dx12 stuttering, fps cap and no resolution support outside 16:9

It's INSANE how good this game actually is. As a hardcore souls fan whose favorite game of all time is Dark Souls 1 I obviously had high expectations going in, and they were still HANDILY exceeded. I'm not surprised this was the first FromSoft game to get a 10/10 from Dan. It's honestly crazy to see this game get the kind of critical recognition and sales that it's getting because at it's heart it's still the niche, challenging RPG they've been making since Demon's Souls. But honestly it's long past due. This studio hasn't missed in 13 years and have steadfastly refused to compromise on their vision despite a ton of pressure to put in easy modes and whatnot. Even today with Elden Ring Miyazaki is shutting those discussions RIGHT the fuck down. Best developer around right now.

You are pointing the issue. You hear it right now in this video. Those scores are given by Souls lovers. That is for a good reason, those games being rather hard and the time to review limited, the game sites give the review to the "soul guy", so obviously the score gets a big bump.

The hype is fine. What's not fine is how many people are outright ignoring some of the stupid UI design decisions that From just refuses to fix from previous games (in this video the fact that there are "quality of life" improvements to the formula is pretty much bullshit). There is literally NO in-game way of knowing what status effects do or what the icons mean. There is NO way to compare items before buying them. The stats screen is still a mess, particularly the right side. Relying on outside internet sources for a AAA RPG title is some bullshit. These are things that keep this game from being flawless, which is what a 10/10 should actually be. These are things that outright impede the player. You can hate on Forbidden West all you want for the hand-holding questing gameplay and icon explosions, but at least I can find IN-GAME what everything actually fucking means. And would it ruin the immersive experience to at least have the map update with the NAME of the goddamn region you're looking at? Is that a step too far for the diehards?

Completely different. Best way I can explain it is they got it right. In every way they gave you the wants (and needs) every open world RPG gamer has always wanted. No other game has done it like they have. Hell they did it with the dark souls saga too but with the exception of those particular releases not being open world. Why do you think it took them so long and all those release delays kept happening? It's just the way they make the games. a great example would be the 'no quest log' feature. Frustrating at first but you actually get a real sense of adventure from them when you finish one. The sense of accomplishment is high as well. Lastly since I know this reply is way too long, they also now hold the world record for most boss fights unless I'm missing a game somewhere. My favorite used to be Witcher 3 but this game has it beat. Far as how it runs on whatever systems or pc, they will fix all that in time. Do yourself a favor friend. Go buy this game and enjoy.

One time playing cyberpunk 2077 i was soo overwalmed with markers i saw myself running into a wall cuz i was so focus watching the marker and not the game itself, that sensation was terrible. In From Software games is like you really watching literal every step u make, its just another feel

The reason that one dude had to run back to a check point is probably because he left combat area in the fight. This caused him spawn back at his sight of grace. It happened to me fighting the Erdtree Avatar. I stepped outside the statues area during the fight and was sent back to a sight of Grace. You can tell if you’re in the re-spawn area if you see a little tombstone to the middle left side of your screen.

If you're having a podcast named ..why I gave X game a 10 .... you likely need to tune up your objectivity. What elden ring has made me appreciate about other developers that build games that actually detect a keyboard and mouse, produce 1000 of hours of voiced dialog, fill a world with intractable npcs, and tune there game with difficulty settings is that's a whole lot of work that just gets taken for granted... if 20% of people that purchased this game make it to the end I'll be shocked

Digital Foundry had the same issues and he ran the game 720p on a 3090, again do you want to run that past me again? Do you not think this is a problem? Have you not seen the stuttering some ppl are getting on rigs that has no business struggling? And it's not like the game is pushing the bleeding edge of graphics either. AC Valhalla has a much bigger world and looks way better but yet I can run the game at 90fps and above? I love fromsoft games but this is poor optimization bud.

@@andremostert8630 Im playing with an rx580 and a r5 1600af. the performance has been fine for me so far. Im playing on 1080p with medium settings and only place the framerate was bad was at the beggining in the fight with the tree sentinel. Outside of that Ive been playing mostly with 60 fps. Sure there are minor drops once in a while when I enter a new area but its not very disturbing. And the reason for this is most likely easy anticheat which had to be added bc of recently discovered exploits in the dark souls series that let people hack other peoples pcs. easy anticheat is famous for lowering the fps a lot and from soft had no other choice but to add it. it wasnt really their fault and they will fix it eventually.

I find it shocking that this is ok for them to release the game like this. And it's sad because the game is awesome but if you look at most of the negative reviews on steam it's all about the poor quality of the port and performance. That is 100% on the developer.

I think it's hilarious how this game just kinda dropped in my lap. I'm a huge soulsborne fan and wasn't really onto sekiro, so I didn't really hype. They could make an Elden Ring 2 in 5 more years and I bet it would still be top notch

I just beat a dragon when earlier this morning. It was pretty fun and rewarding, died to it twice before killing it. It had pretty great animations and yeah, the most efficient way to take it down is targeting it’s feet.

The early bosses are essentially tutorials without calling them that. It is open and you can play it as you like. So far bosses require different answers. If you like this kind of game it is certainly fun.

I doubt there will be an Elden Ring 2 but I hope so and would be nice for it to be on another continent but same world as lands Between. Even better idea: they make a sci Fi type game or some sort of world where guns replace swords(their fallout to Skyrim if that makes sense...) But same mechanics and everything. Armored core was good but not quite the same type of game at all. My point is this format works. It's amazing and I'm ruined on all other games that hold your hand thanks to from software. TO THE PEOPLE BITCHING ABOUT NO QUEST LOG: this makes the game better and you just can't see it cause you're so used to games holding your hand with automatic markers showing you exactly where to go. They are trying to make the experience more genuine and give you a true sense of adventure as well as accomplishment. FromSoftware doesn't make games hard for the hell or just to be assholes. They do it to make you a better gamer and giving you a challenge worth your money.

I love souls born and I’m really good at combat(💪🏼) BUT⚠️ I cannot perceive the story the connections that you have to make to progress things! If I go in blind I don’t get anywhere so I have to look up stuff on the wiki(💪🏼) I would never on my own figure out the mechanics! So I looked them up then I look up a sword. I look up where to get a good piece of armour then I look up on the best way to use magic. Almost everything I’ve ever found in the souls game I found through the wiki!(💪🏼) THat’s where my joy comes from hunting stuff down! Ps I know people are against looking stuff up but I still have to apply the tips and it’s still hard,

Sekironis the easiest out of the lot is just different I wasn't a souls fan I bought sekiro,ds2 and ds3 in Jan to get ready for this ,think it's just harder for souls fans as they are set in their ways as an outsider without these problems fount it easier with the mechanics but u bant really grind if your stuck u just need to persevere lol

Why in the F did they not put an option in the settings to turn off the camera auto center on movement?!?! Like for a game that boast about its exploring, kind of silly you cant look left or right while moving without fighting the game and creating stutters and blurring that's unplayable. There’s no need to create so many classes. Just spec into whatever looks fun. Although you start at level 1 vs the level boost of the others, you have more freedom to dump points wherever you want.

I would strongly recommend watching Fextralife's Class Guide, you can even go further by watching his build guides if you're planning a certain playthrough. It still depends on how you want to play the game, (i.e. do you want to be an elemental mage or a rouge adept in sneek/bow attacks). At the end of the day it all boils down to enjoying the game and discovering and trying out new things. I think it's why majority gives this game a 10/10 s due to its extreme replayability in terms of trying a different playthrough/new characters with different sets of skills/armors & weapons.

Love the game and it’s been one of the best soulbourne games to date but of course none of the reviews discuss the multiplayer and I how outdated and Unnecessarily tedious it is. Like you can roam limited part of open world with a friend but can’t enter certain parts of the map or dungeons but can kick them and walk a few feet and resummon them.. it’s insanely stupid and pointless. Maybe It should be limited in other aspects as far as progression or being sent home upon death or something of that nature or have a separate function for one or two friends that will stay in the game with you. I hate to say it is just such a lazy way to keep multiplayer a part of the game by tacking on and old system made for the older games with barely seemed to show any rework to the multiplayer to fit the massive change to open world . Maybe it was the working conditions or maybe it was another way for them to cut corners on top of the other reused assets? I really don’t know but I do know it taints the experience of the game a lot when People just want to explore the game with a friend(s) or at least have the option there. You see it in all the comments and Reddit post talking about it but never on any major KZbin platform and it should be talked about more because it’s the only thing from keeping it from being the perfect game in my book and honestly could be a easy fix for them with a update to lift some of the walls and limits.

they can always patch pvp and coop inthe future, im positive this game will be played for years like skyrim or gtaV. chances are fromsoft will hear what their audience wants and will most likely make changes. along as people speak up.

It wasn’t much as an issue in the old souls games because Of the way the areas were designed but on elden Ring both my friends and I was really annoyed on having to jump back and forth when we explored and found a dungeon or area all because we were stopped by mist walls in the “open world”

I think the devs intended co-op to be used as needed, meaning when you are stuck and need help. Just because you can summon players doesnt mean this is a co-op game.

@@blastofo yeah I don’t really buy that because from how they showed off the game when the first gameplay was accounted to the incentives to coop and pvp they put in the game. Plus with how the summons are basically AI help that you can do in place of coop. Maybe that’s how it was in the old souls games but it worked with how the areas were set up for the most part even though it was always a yern to want to just play the entire game with friends too when I played them but it wasn’t as frustrating as this one. I mean 5 games later you think they would change something especially when taking the games in a new direction outside of a new look and lore.

I'm playing on mid-range PC and never experienced any stuttering, and only a couple crashes in +30 hours of play (lost no progress at all), which is nothing really by modern games standards.
