I also completely agree that Skyrims scaling enemies didn't feel that good to play against. I like feeling like I've progressed past points of a game. I don't want a spider in a starting area to be level 60 because it's "scaling" with me.

100% This is my main criticism of most all western RPGs. It breaks immersion and makes character progression meaningless.
@KurosakiYukigo2 жыл бұрын
Scaling can be good, it's just that many game devs, especially Bethesda, are really bad at it. It's not fun to go around oneshotting everything because your build has become amazing... but at the same time their "solution" is just to make the enemies unrealistically tanky. "Damage sponginess" is a huge issue that dozens of Skyrim mods try to fix. The better way to scale is to give familiar enemies new abilities, resistances against certain strategies and better AI. Obviously they'll need some more health to just not be obliterated by you, but so often difficulty boils down to "this common bandit can take 18 chops from a greataxe"
@theobell20022 жыл бұрын
It really just depends on the game. I couldn't imagine a game like Borderlands 2 not scaling enemies to your level in your third playthrough. It would just become boring.

When you finally beat the game you’re gonna be like, “Yeah I probably should have fast traveled.” Especially if you realize that you missed a quest or an item and have to backtrack all the way to a place like Caelid or something. There are also some important areas that you’ll be spending a lot of time in that aren’t physically connected to the mainland at all. So once you’re teleported to them, you’re gonna have to fast travel back to the mainland anyway in order to continue the game. There’s one place near the end game that you get teleported to, but if you leave that area and then need to go back, your only choice to do so will be to fast travel. Also the Four Belfries teleport you to places that you can only leave via fast travel. @hossdelgado6262 жыл бұрын
Yeah honestly Zelda breath of the Wild has the same vibes as a dark souls game mechanically. Your given tools, there is an enemy. Go make it unalive. How you do it doesn't matter, you can cheese it or run up and bare fist brawl it for the next 4 hours. Just have fun, and learn to watch and listen to enemies, react to what they are doing but don't panic. You will win, it's only a question of time. To anyone aiming to get into Dark Souls, it isn't as difficult as everyone says, it can be frustrating yes, but not hard. Even the weakest enemy in Dark Souls can kill you if you don't pay attention or panic, that's not difficulty though. From Soft always gives you a way to fight back. You can win, you will win, and when you do you'll feel a feeling that's hard to find anywhere else. Goodluck tarnished one.

The games have always been pretty easy imo
@Chromodar2 жыл бұрын
To me a hard game is a mechanically challenging one that requires precision, timing, reaction speed, complex button inputs and so on. Soulsborne games were never that. The proper word to describe them is "unforgiving". You get punished harshly for making mistakes, but everyone's capable of learning from mistakes regardless of mechanical skill. Literally the only thing required to succeed is the strength of will to not give up in frustration, which is directly reflected in the story and themes of Dark Souls series with hollowing. Credit to anyone who picks up these games scared of the difficulty but ends up finding that strength of will, OP included.
@MrGilRoland2 жыл бұрын
This is the key, especially for Sekiro. And when you beat that boss, you feel a badass for the next few days.
@JB-xl2jc2 жыл бұрын
Honestly if you're patient and focus on learning timing, they're not particularly difficult. They can be punishing especially if you rush or aren't observant, but the big lesson is to be patient and keep trying, learning along the way. Which is pretty good as lessons go.
@mythical_pizza2 жыл бұрын
I had never played a Souls game before, all my friends said "I would hate it" as I'm the kinda person that plays everything casually and on easy difficulty. But I kept seeing videos, and in addition to looking cool, it was almost comical how often people died. So I went in with the expectation like I was rewinding a final destination movie, that I would die all the time (as a method to alleviate impending frustration from getting too close and failing). And I had a blast. I mean a genuinely good time. It's not often I can say im glad I didn't listen to my friends. I still haven't beaten it yet, I'm at the Malekith fight (pretty far in) and yeah I'm not bored yet. I also want to now go back and play other fromsoft titles. For anyone out there like me who doesn't like a challenge, I don't know how but this game is for you too. It's immensely accessible and an incredible gateway into the genre.
@ordinaryhuman56452 жыл бұрын
These games are as challenging as you make them. Just wandering around and leveling up a bunch makes the game much easier than not exceeding level 100/120/150 like a pvp tryhard. And the game gives you plenty of OP tools to use (especially summons). So while parts of the game feel harder than past FromSoft games, they can also be made much easier.

Update for PC players regarding performance: it’s apparently a very mixed bag on whether you’ll be able to run the game with or without issues. My personal experience was pretty great and reflected as such in the video, but I’ve read about tons of people (even those with powerful rigs) running into issues. It also seems like the day 1 patch made the game somehow run worse for some people than the pre-release review version. Might be a better call to go with the PS5 version for now or wait for upcoming fixes.

First time i fought the dragon Agheel, I wasn't confident enough to take him up close as one hit from his fire breath killed me instantly. So in order to beat him I had to run rings around him on Torrent while pelting him with arrows. It was the cheesiest way to beat him but it still felt like the most intense battle ever. Running around at full speed dodging his fire breath as it fills the screen, shooting arrows at his head when I can, all while the intense latin chanting goes on in the background. I don't think you have to worry that you used Torrent to cheese the fight, because I think the devs actually intended for you to do this fight that way. BUT if you use Torrent to cover more ground you can not just dodge them but you have enough time to get behind Agheel to get a few easy hits in. That’s not really what they’re saying. Obviously exploring areas between bosses is huge part of the fun, but that’s not what they’re talking about. There’s no world building or exploration in running from your bonfire through an area you’ve already explored to get back to a boss over and over. The game isn’t going to be a boss rush, just when you die to a boss you can hop right back into the fight rather than make the same monotonous run back through an area sprinting by every enemy waiting to get back into the fight.

Nothing in our universe will ever be perfect. It seems like, for a lot of people, elden ring is as close to perfect for them as a game can get. We're talking about people who's favorite games of all time hands down and still playing those games today is dark souls 1 bloodborne dark souls 3, obviously if elden ring is remotely close to veing an outstanding game objectively then those people will hold that game in their own mind as being much more. For me BB was my start, its my favorite, behind DS3 and sekiro. Elden ring looks like it has lived up to every ounce of hype it had, fromsoft is genius when it comes to managing the hype for their games too bc they drip feed information during development so rarely therefore all people xan do is simply wait months and months for any information, they can't build unrealistic expectations based in dev showcases or in depth detailing of mechanics.

I found the best way to explain the difficulty is that it lowers the skill floor while maintaining the skill ceiling. You can start out and level up enough to face a challenge at a level you are comfortable at but at some point you reach diminishing returns while the enemies still remain tough so you have to get better at it. But you can do a lot and go a lot of places within that.
