Remarkable to find a band with 70s writing sensibilities with an updated sound. These guys a re a hidden treasure.

The 2nd half of this song is beyond godly. IMO one of the best tracks of the past 10 years.

Easily. One of the best songs I've heard in a very long time. I wouldn't even say decades.

When I listen to this song (all Elder songs actually), I have the impression of hearing a lifetime of adventures in a far away fantasy land. The combination of heaviness, melody, phrasing and the length of the track, really conveys that feeling of scale and, in simpler terms : Life. Because life is just like that, it has contrast, up and downs, heavy hard moments and softer easier times. It literally takes you to another place. No, I'm not stoned, I was listening and it dawned on me. It doesn't take a genius to see how far this bands is gonna go, and how iconic it will be.

Your thesis really tied the comment section together.

It certainly deserves to be iconic, but we know, in this sick, sad world, music of this purity will not be allowed to thrive.
@borisstojanovic66467 жыл бұрын
It will be iconic in it's own way.. If anything we can learn from history of art, it's that it takes time for a perfection to be recognised.. And I will be proud to say that I, among all of you people who were lucky enough to hear about this band, was a part of it all..

I got goosebumps the first time I heard 14:39. Immediately fell in love with this band. The whole thing had been great up until that point, but what a way to end it. Reminds me of a lot of my favorite Pelican, Pallbearer or Ancestors tracks.
@freezknotable8 жыл бұрын
Amen Brother, The beautiful thing about Elder is not only are they incredibly prolific with original riffs they pull out of thin air, but there is always a moment (different for everyone) that sends chills up your spine. On every song here on youtube there is a comment like yours with the time the moment occurs. My favorite is in the song Compendium, go watch it and see my comment with the time it happens. The Compendium uploaded by BitGeeker.

I've got that feling at 11'42". The song is like 4 seasons or a long trip with lots of different vibes. After Dead Meadow it's my favorite band of this century.

Official lyrics, taken from the CD's cover Angelic visions hewn in white A relic sacred, gift divine Bathed in a sallow golden light Piercing the vessels of mankind Who kneels before the mantle of gold Projecting thoughts into the sphere Where light dissolved manipulates The weight of aeons cold austere The void benign and whispering A feather carves a cresent path Age-hardened stone is giving in The selds we've sewn rising forth The sons of trite and jealous birth Who wash their hands in blood and soil A golden light in earthly toil

I came on here specifically to see if anyone else mentioned how epic the whole outro of this song is (specifically from the part Graham above me mentions). The hairs on the back of my neck stand on end when the guitar kicks in here. Sublime stuff.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. This section really hits me with a sense of epic nostalgia that's sad in a way. Like you're thinking of a place that feels like home to you but in reality it doesn't actually exist, although you can still feel it. I think the word for it is hiraeth.

Little known (or observed) fact: Set this song right before your morning shower, around the 8:07 mark you'll be stepping out, drying off and feeling like a bar soap God, coming out of the mist and into the muddled moore.

I have listened to this song for two days straight now only sleeping 5 hours. I think there is something supernatural going on here.....2 days ago I thought I knew this song like the back of my hand butt every fuckin time I listen to it I hear something new or it sounds totally different doing riffs and time signatures that I don't remember or thought were in another song . Yes sure 7:55 starts it but there is definitely something going on at 9:56 and 11:04 and 11:40 and 12:17 every time it changes its better than the riff before and I go sideways gleaming the cube riding the tube inside a wave of Heavy fuzzed out wall of sound and 13:49 and 14:39 im surfing or snowboarding or flying or driving a car like a spaceship thru different landscapes and it starts right away too at 00:00 and then 00:39 and then 1:15 so im going to go put my head in the microwave for an hour.
