I don't think so. Elder is one of few good exceptions because they feature so much more elements from Prog, Psychdelic to Post-Rock elements. Plus their song structures are unpredictable and vary a lot. Most Stoner Metal bands just sound generic, repetitive and boring with maybe 1 to 2 riffs overall in their generic 3-4 minutes songs. Just Kyuss rip offs for the most part.
@greeneyeddevil72515 жыл бұрын
@@TonyRedgrave1501 I'll go ahead and agree with that. Doom metal and stoner rock are my favorites and have been for the past few years. There's lots of good stuff, but you have to sift through plenty of cookie cutter bands to find it (as with any other genre, imo).

in fact their last album is boring as hell. Dead Roots and Lore are their masterpieces.
@TonyRedgrave15015 жыл бұрын
@@Ariovistus50 Boring?!?!?! Are you kidding me?! "Sanctuary", "Blind" and "The Falling Veil" are Elder's most varied tracks to date! If so I would call "Dead Roots Stirring" or the first record kinda boring and generic. I like them both but the first one is typical Doom with longer jammier songs and "DRS" is typical Stoner Metal without any own character and style. It sounds really similar to "Kyuss" or "Colour Haze" just with longer tracks. Since "Lore" they found their own style and "Reflections of a Floating World" goes even further and adds and puts even more elements to their style. More melody and psychedelia and prog than before but still with heavy doomy riffs. "Lore" is heavyer but "ROAFW" is more complex and melodic.

just went to a gig with them, pallbearer and irist three days ago they came on for the last of the three sets and absolutely blew everyone away (and blew out my eardrums, but entirely worth it)

@@SoSheolH EartH, London? I was there too. : ) Didn't like Pallbearer at all, but Elder was perfect, as usual. For your ears, I wouldn't mess with it. Invest in decent ear plugs or, as I do, just roll little balls from a Kleenex. The sound is even better that way.

@@steventhepaut6191 totally right on the earplugs, i literally just didn't think about it beforehand - first gig i've ever went to full stop, so maybe excitement messed with my brain luckily my ears had fixed themselves by the next day as for pallbearer, from what i'd heard beforehand i wasn't a big fan, but i thought they did pretty good live, and irist who went on first were cool, but absolutely nothing could compare to elder's set know it was absolutely packed in there, but might have even passed by you at some point - entirely dependent on positioning though, i was nearer the back by the sound guy (although i wish i'd have gone up the front for elder's set, people back there were not nearly as motivated as i was for that performance)

Was lucky to see them playing with Earthless last year. Kinda wish they played two separate shows so both of them could play longer! Anyway it was still the best night of my year!

I dropped acid to this album with a dear friend in 2016 and the memory of staring at the artwork while the album played and it changing into something more beautiful every every time I blinked will stay with me forever.
