Every Province of Tamriel has its secret histories, but no land in the Empire is as undocumented and unexplored as Black Marsh, and no race is as misunderstood as the Argonians.
~ LORE MASTERS ~
I'm not perfect, and I promise you now, with a series as ambitious as this, I will slip up. I'm counting on the lore masters out there to serve as a last line of defense in my fact checking. If you find a mistake, feel free to leave a correction in the comment section below, and make sure to include a source, or it will be ignored. NOTICE I SAID MISTAKE, not if I left something out, because I will come back to it later. Any corrections I'll be forced to make will appear as video annotations, but if I do my job right this will be a rare occurrence. Oh, and sorry in advance for butchering the punctuation of any names!
ENJOY!!!

An elder scrolls in black marsh seems fun for an argonian but a pain in the ass for any other race.

Might as well have a dlc to go to black marsh and elsywer. Unless the new elder scrolls 6 let's you explore all of tamriel. Then all you need is to explore other continents. Unless that's also part of the game. Then I'm sold.

The game could use a survival mechanic where the player needs to routinely get potions of cure disease or special potions of resist disease and poison, unless you start as an Argonian. It's something that could be manageable while still adding a bit more challenge and flavor to the experience.

X Probably, the trick would be setting it up so players would want to play a non-Argonian and want to overcome the disease system. I mean, people play fallout 3 in survival mode, this could be similar.

If you're not an Argonian, you start the game at a hospital getting diagnosed with Type 2 Hist Aids, and you health, magicka, and stamina will always be at 7 If you start as an Argonian, the game starts mid blowjob in your mansion

Did they forget the fact that the while everyone else ran around in circles while the Daedra invaded during the Oblivion Crisis, the Argonians actually fought the Daerdra and kicked their asses so hard they retreated back to Oblivion, and the Argonians actually FOLLOWED then and beat them on their own turf? Then they went on to killing thousands of Dunmer as revenge for the slavery. Ever wonder why there are no Dunmer saying "I survived the Argonian assault on my city"? That's because they didn't. When the Argonians attacked, they killed ALL the Dunmer in whatever city they attacked. The Dunmer were only able to enslave them back when they were a loose bunch of tribes with no government. But then they formed the An-Xileel government and beat both the Deadra and the Dunmer. Wonder why they don't go on the invade other parts of Tamriel. They must really like living alone.
@MsSomeone98
@MsSomeone98 10 жыл бұрын
Avonisea Telvanni How was it weak? They literally killed thousands of Dunmer. Not a man, woman, or child was left in southern Morrowind. True, the Argonians actually formed an army for the first time while Morrowind was in ruins. They didn't even drive the "drug addicts" back. All they did was just stop their advance. They couldn't actually destroy their army to the point where they couldn't attack again, for obvious reasons. When did the Argonians have their army devastated? Let me see.... The Argonians first formed an army after they firmed the An-Xileel government during the oblivion crisis.... It worked like a charm. They counter invaded oblivion and the Daedra had to close the gates.... Then they decided to fuck up Morrowind for revenge... They take the entire southern country... Lose only once and stop their advance? Where exact does it say that the army was devastated? It just days they stopped their advance after House Rediran managed to rally enough troops. They were never driven back into black marsh. So, they just stopped invading? House Red or an couldn't push them back if they wanted. All they did was stop their advance. Now, I don't know the details if their battle, but House Redoran Probably just set up a defensive position around their location and not lose to the lizardmen. Either the Hist ordered them back, or the Argonians were feeling really merciful. Either way, the damage was already done. They pretty much drove most of the Dark Elves to Skyrim. It seems the Dunmer got lucky again after the High King decided to give them an island. BTW, after Oblivion, no matter HOW much the Dunmer rebuild their province, they won't be able to enslave Argonians again due to them forming a government and military strong enough to perform an ethnic cleansing of half their country and kick the Daedra's asses. The Dunmer only managed to enslave them back when they were a lose collection of tribes with little to no government. Each tribe didn't care enough about the other to actually do something, not to mention the fact they only prayed on border tribes, never actually attempting to go in deeper, because there are a million ways those other tribes could kill them deep in the Marsh if they felt their previous Hist were threatened. Now that I think about it, it really depends in what the Hist want. The Hist want to interact with the rest of Tamriel and have their own servants? Argonians are there for it. They feel threatened by the Daedra? Order the Argonians to quite being tribal and form an actual government and military and kick the invaders' asses. So, the question is, did the Hist want the Dunmer dead? It seems simple. If the answer us "yes", rinse and repeat the Southern Morrowind Fiasco, but don't quit after not being able to take a city. If the answer is "no"? OK, just live your daily lives in the Marsh until the Hist want something or feel threatened.

Stopped reading at the second sentence. Again, the Redoran army merely defended themselves and stopped the Argonian advance. They did not beat or push them back.
@MsSomeone98
@MsSomeone98 10 жыл бұрын
Avonisea Telvanni Like I said, the Argonians just left. There is literally no way house Redoran could push them back, unless the Dunmer suddenly gained the ability to multiply and were given tanks and ebony armor. 15 years before Umbriel came, the Argonians just left Morrowind. They got their revenge, a few clans might just be mad enough to stay.
@MsSomeone98
@MsSomeone98 10 жыл бұрын
Avonisea Telvanni There is a way? A single a single house that managed to defend itself has no way of pushing back a full army, no natter the races. And yes, the Argonians did go back yo black Marsh. Read infernal City. I'd trust a book over what some random Dunmer says. The thing is, the An-Xileel are NOT a skirmisher based force. They counter-invaded Oblivion for crying out loud. They are a full-blown military and political faction, no more guerilla hit-and run tactics.
@MsSomeone98
@MsSomeone98 10 жыл бұрын
Avonisea Telvanni A large army fleeing from an enemy in defense doesn't make much sense to me. Nothing was said about any major Argonains losses or casualties during the attack on Oblivion. It was a landslide victory for the Argonains. I've seen the "Argonain home field advantage" argument before. I doubt they had the advantage in Oblivion, where they literally overwhelmed the forces of the netherworlds to the lint where Mehrunes Dagon's servants had to close the gates to stop them. Besides the Fighters quest, which by no means represent the Hist-Argonain relationship, we know little about the Hist except for the fact that Argonians are their servants and they protect themselves. Who cares about their military strength or government?!? The real mystery about the Argonains is... Why do they look so different in Morrowind than they do in Oblivion and Skyrim? Did the Hist decide to make them more human?

Aw, you left out all the interesting bits about Argonian biology. Like the fact that they are part plant, which is the reason for their long lives and immunity to most animal diseases and poisons. Or that some of them cyclically switch sex every dozen or so years to ensure that there is always enough males and females to go around each mating cycle.

A race so badass they drove back Daedra by themselves, lived in one of the most inhospitable places in Nirn, can breath underwater, heal wounds quickly, never get truly conquered by the passing empires and used to have a tradition of being assassins if they are born under the sign of the shadow... Oh and they are lizard men. 10/10 would breath under water and be overly reliant on histskin again. Argonian players in Skyim will know what I am saying.

+firestarter 111 I don't know what you expected from the ES game titled 'Skyrim', friend. :/ The game is focused on the Civil War and Ulfrik Stormcloak, and it alone wouldn't possibly give you so much lore about such an irrelevant race to the story's plot. There are hints and tastes of the lore, however, as with the mention of the Shadowscales when you join the DB, or the clearly evident references from NPCs about the Hist, and such things as the underwater breathing mechanic. The collective Argonian lore though is undoubtedly bad ass.

Around 6:40, the narrator says that it was considered impossible for 'non-black marsh relatives' to thrive in the land. This is true, and there's even in a skill book about this on the armourer's workbench in Whiterun in Adriaan's forge. If you want to read up on this story for yourself, the book name is: "The Armorer's Challenge" For those of you that are willing to click read more and not read the actual book, here's the story. (Mind you, I will not mention names as that just makes this story go on, much more. :P): The Imperials wanted to invade Black Marsh. In order to protect the army, like in any war, the men would need a strong set of armour. There was a fellow Argonian, who heard about the mission. He knew what was in Black Marsh and what the army would be facing. He knew that heavy steel would not make it, and the warriors would be stuck in the swamps. They wouldn't even make a whole 2km. The argonian, challenged Cyrodiil's most experienced blacksmith, in the challenge of armour making. (Don't ask me why the argonian was helping a raid on his own province. This is just a summarized version of the story.) The Emperor finalized that within 3 weeks time 'gladiators' would be suited with the challengers armour and the 'gladiators' would fight to death/defeat. The Imperial blacksmith used the most fine materials, weapons, techniques and skill to craft his set. Unfortunately for him he didn't know what was coming. The argonian knew what the conditions were in Black Marsh. And so, on the very last day of armour making, the lizard, grab a few pieces of light-weight materials and made some cheap armour. The next day, the 'gladiators' were suited up, and sent into the arena. The arena was put into a swampy condition like Black Marsh for this 'battle'. Heavy steel does not work well in a squelchy, sticky place such as a swamp. And two-handed weapons or even one-handed weapons cannot hit a fast-moving enemy/target when the attacker is standing still. The leather-wearing 'gladiator' simply dodged all of his enemy's swings, and he could move around and hit his enemy's weak points. And so ends this summary of a tale. If you've read all of this I thank you. And may you remember that being quick and light on your feat is sometimes, always the best.

There are numerous mentions of Imperials, Bretons, Nords and what have you trecking through Black March or living there and doing fine. On the other hand, maybe some (mostly central) regions of Black March would be too disease-ridden for those other races. But then they can give us access only to some parts of the country and the game would still have a huuuge map. Problem solved!

Before I kinda wanted TES 6 to be set in Black Marsh but after listening to this I don't want too much attention on Argonia. I feel a game on the region would lower the mystery of the land, robbing it of what makes it so unique.

If they plan on making a Elder Scrolls game based on black marsh it might be a little difficult considering mostly only argonians can live there right? just something I was thinking about because of all the poisonous things and diseases they mentioned.
@IAmEvilTree
@IAmEvilTree 10 жыл бұрын
I think it would be possible to have other species there but mostly on the edges of Black Marsh before the swamps fully set in, deep inside it would be just Argonians.
@johnw848
@johnw848 10 жыл бұрын
I agree. But the setting would not work if we want to get a full Elder Scrolls experience. A lot would have to be sacrificed for that to work... Firstly, Black Marsh is only habitable to Argonians due to their disease resistance etc. Black Marsh is pretty much a death trap to all the other races, it is full of toxic/poisonous flora, fauna, swamps and diseases. If Black Marsh was to happen: The lore would have to be sacrificed and reworked. or RPG elements would have to be sacrificed by making Argonians the only available race to play in the game. or The protagonist is a special individual who is immune to all diseases, like the last protagonist was a special individual who happened to be Dragonborn, Dovahkiin in dragon's tongue. Imagine you being the only Nord, Breton, Altmer etc. amongst a whole province of Argonians. Take your pick.
@IAmEvilTree
@IAmEvilTree 10 жыл бұрын
I think there can be other species at least on the outer parts of Black Marsh like I said in a previous post but I doubt they would want to abandon RPG elements or npc diversity. Maybe after the events of Skyrim a disaster occurs in Black Marsh that allows non-Argonians to pass into it's heart, some mystical wildfire or unknown invaders or something, and the empire and the dominion each want to use the opportunity to gain solid control over the region.

The next game needs to be set in Black Marsh. I like the feeling of Black Marsh that EVERYTHING is trying to kill you. If you aren't killed by Argonian bandits, you are killed by disease, swamps, monsters, insects, and poison. Elder Scrolls needs a new game with a hostile environment, not a walk in the park like Oblivion and Skyrim.

The most underrated race, and that’s why I always pick an argonian whenever I play Skyrim, Morrowind, Oblivion, and even Online. I love a good underdog story and they’re definitely the underdogs of the elder scrolls games. I like them because one, as a kid I was always a sucker for reptiles. I even wanted a pet lizard at one point or even a pet snake. Two, their culture and lore intrigue me greatly. Three, Nerevar was reincarnated as an argonian in my own head canon. And four, they speak for the trees.

misterbigsteve I think I will be a smart arse and give you a nice big answer... The Dunmer never met the Dwemer. The Dunmer never existed then. The Chimer, however, did meet the Dwemer and had a conflict with them. The Dwemer were no priests and were not religious. On the other hand, Chimer were devout Daedra worshippers. A war was inevitable. However, when the Nordic invasions of the Fire Era started to occur, the Chimer had a treaty with the Dwemer. Anyway, why did the go here? Simple, really. The Dunmer's ancestors, known as the Chimer, followed Prophet Veloth out of the elven homelands and to Morrowind, where they settled and eventually became the Dunmer, after being changed. How did they change, you might ask, yes? When the Tribunal betrayed Nerevar and Azura, who, in her fury, turned the Chimer's skin dark to blue shade it is now, and their eyes to a shade of red. This day, the Chimer in Morrowind all died, in one sense, and the Dunmer were born. While the Chimer may be the "Changed Ones", the Dunmer are the "Cursed Ones", and in case you wanted to know, Dwemer are "Deep Folk". What happened to the Dwemer? How did they become extinct? What happened to the Chimer and Dwemer Alliance? All simple answers, really. The Dwemer became extinct during a war that later occurred with the Dunmer, ending their Alliance. In this battle, Nerevar, a Nerevarine, died. However, so did Dumac, the Dwemer King of Resdayn (Morrowind's former name), and all of the other dwarves, too. Whether the Dwemer still live, but elsewhere is unknown, and not only did the Dwemer end, but this long word of walls does too.

also ability to breathe water is an absolutely exclusive trait to fish and amphibians, as far as vertebrates go. therefore, they would be incredibly hard to classify as NO real world reptile is capable of breathing under water, however the rest of their traits are distinctly reptilian or even vaguely mammalian (females with mammaries)
@meatmobile

Brian Stell There are a few exceptions to the 'reptiles can't breathe underwater rule', depending on your definition. Crocodiles can breathe WHILE underwater, but not through water. I think musk turtles can breathe while completely submurged, though. With their tongues.

The major problem with that, aside from technical limitations, would be to fill this world with interesting things. It isn't worth to have a huge world if it feel empty. They would need to fill it with a lot of random, generic things, because design with full details and filling each inch of this world with story would take too much time and resource, its unrealistic. We might get there one day, but it won't be in the next game.. About the MMO, correct if I'm wrong, but it isn't really 100% open world. You can't just travel the whole map with the same freedom you have in Skyrim, for example.

That's how they're described, but in practice, it's not quite like that. The Councils of House Telvanni are united and civil. The only case where killing another is part of the storyline, is done by the player to become Archmagister, and you have to slay another high-ranking official to become leader of the other Great Houses, and even is an optional way to become Archmage of the Mage's Guild.

In the lore there are all different kinds of Argonians, some are lizard-like, some are toad-like, some are snake-like, and a few are even rumored to have wings, but in the games you can only play as the normal lizard kind.

Gin, it's because that Arena was randomly generated every time a new game was created. The landscapes, dungeons, and towns were all random.

I have to say, I typically like reading the lore on the wiki, infact one day I spent an entire day learning about the Dwemer. But it's 3 in the morning and I don't want to read. Also your videos are easier to follow for longer periods of time. When I read I drift off sometimes...

Xar Gas "Again"? You have never done so once. In fact, you lost. Twice. You aggressed during the Arnesian wars, and lost. You aggressed to attack Morrowind when it was weakest, and you still lost. You are delusional, the Hist has made you as such. The Argonians can't do shit and waste all their Hist on wars with Morrowind that it can't win, the Argonians lost so badly that a SINGLE Great House, one that wasn't even the head House on the Grand Council until after the war, single-handedly destroyed their absurd invasion, even when outnumbered 5 to 1. The Argonians would be better off waiting for the Dunmer to perish from old age, and retain their Hist in coffers for Great House Dres to seize when the honorable Dres destroy Black Marsh.

The only Elves I like are Wood Elves because they are apart of the Aldmeri Dominion, but want to just live in piece. Yes they eat any meat that they come across because of the Green pact and the other is Orcs. But they're both Mer and Beast. Because they want to live in piece but the Damn bretons won't leave them alone even after the ass kicking the bretons got.

Yes, the Bosmer are cannibals because of the Meat Mandate, which is part of the Green Pact with Y'ffre. After a battle, the victor must eat the body of the loser within three days. The victor's family often joins in to make sure the corpse is eaten within the given time frame. Fasting before battles and family feasts have become common staples of Bosmeri culture because of this mandate.

Heh all this comments about how great/shitty races are.. Altmer: a kind of powerful race good at magic and dicipline, sometimes in a very awful way and racist as shit (the thalmor and ideals) but the psijic order has my respects Bosmer: a nice race good at athlethics which turn to them been great at hunting, they relatively passive... but due to a deal with the spiritual tree? something in valenwood they are.. cannibal Dunmer: a kind powerful race too, theyre good at magic and decent warriors, although theyve shown a little of racism sometimes they still a friendly one.. sometimes. (once they were the Chimer if not mistaken, i would like to see how they were before Azura turned them into the Dunmer) Orsimer: a beastfolk (elven kind) race, very powerful at battle and idea of honour and dicipline, though they are scattered all over tamriel (their most known location of residence is orsinium in high rock) Argonians: a decent beastfolk race, very friendly though theyre not known for that in black marsh, i read somewhere that theyre kind and good at water military tactics heh.. and the best guerrilla warriors and nice assassins Khajiit: a nice race with their known distictive ability at been sneaky.. they are vaguely known to be thieves and smugglers (and skooma inventors) although not all of them, most of them are friendly and good warriors.. as far as i know Redguards: a powerful race, very good at military tactics, though they seem to look at other races indiferently.. Bretons: a decent race with good magic knowledge and nice military training, dont know much about them, except that theyre men and mer at the same time Nords: a powerful race, known to be great warriors and blacksmiths, theyre known to have a great sense of what is Honor, theyve shown a bit of racism (not all of them) but not as much as the altmer or dunmer. Imperials: a good race, with decent magic and military training, they have shown a good understanding at government and general knowledge.. although in the recent era theyve shown a bit of weakness, i kind of feel that is not their fault at a 100%, of course a non very skilled emperor has part of the fault by not retaining the empire at its full (and its lack of not being dragonborn lol), and abandoning some other provinces which led to these races lose respect for them. Now id really like to know more about snow elves (falmer), dwemer and their dissaperance and how much the dunmer changed since they were chimer.. And of course, whats the fucking deal with the akaviri races.

because the psijic order act as the high elves did originally. back then high elves were simply the best race, now they grow weak. instead of making themselves better, they do what damage they can to the other races. i hope the psijic order bomb their ass with their majestic magnus power.

There are actually rogue pockets of the Dark Brotherhood left, mainly in Black Marsh. There are definitely still Shadowscales left, who are simply in total recluse as a means of survival.
