My 17yr lab is having issues walking, so i have been avoiding any wheat or corn feed and use a little more protien like chicken. Currenly im workong out his back legs and doing very small backyard walks.

My dog had degenerative myelopathy or canine ALS, the same mutated genes are involved in both humans and dogs if it is passed down through familial lines. It's a presumptive diagnosis and there's no pain associated with it although in its late stages as it progresses, breathing can become harder and distressing to the dog.

One idea could be to look at the diet, and see if a change in it would improve things. Another option to look at is fasting.

It could be his food. Gluten (wheat/barley/rye..oats/corn/brown rice) may hurt the gut lining so less nutrients absorb. Carrageenan/Xanthum gum may hurt the gut lining and antibiotics. Nitrites may hurt and oxides/chlorides/carbonates may not help.

Just for a vet to do that part it’s like $300

@@R3spectTheV3t no way. In my area. A vet consult is $100. Bloodwork for an elderly dog is $350. X-ray $80. MRI $500. Treatment who knows how much that will cost. All just to put your elderly dog down shortly after treatment if it gets that far.
