I agree. But scientifically, our brains are out off by new music around age 30. The most important years of our lives in terms of finding and appreciating music are 12-22. Throughout our life our brains will always prefer the music of our youth. But I do agree with you, it’s not important that they listen to it in their free time, but take the time to appreciate it. It’s not easy. Our brains make it difficult.

They are aware that Swimming Pools is ACTUALLY about, - Kendrick Lamar talking about his grandfather's addiction to alcohol. - Kendrick's personal addiction to alcohol by peer pressure. The metaphor around the term "Swimming Pools" is being so addiction to alcohol, that you're constantly "swimming" in it.

I gotta disagree about the “he should rap about college”, Kendrick isn’t praising violence, he’s against it, he raps about gang violence as a warning he’s trying to uplift the community and this country, he has so much staying power and is a leader, it’s hard to see with only a few songs and not analyzing each album, so I digress

They showed songs from To Pimp a Butterfly, Swimming Pools is legit the least encrypted one, King Kunta is his view on the world and the industry as a black man making it through, Alright is about how even through all the oppression they’re going to make it out alright, Blacker the Berry is the biggest one and is what a lot of people consider his best song- it’s a look into black and black violence and how we can only take action on white and black violence once we figure how to settle gang violence and whatnot, and even if we go into rhyme patterns they’re significantly better compared to how they were in Swimming Pools during Good Kid Maad City

Anthony Decarolis they don’t have to like it. It’s just they underestimate the talent these artists have. And instead of listening to the meaning of it they just pay attention to the explicit stuff. The flow, style, and wordplay these artists have is countless and amazing. But they don’t pay attention to it. And they like to say their music is better when it just talks about the same shit over and over. Their music hasn’t progressed any. That’s why it’s called 50’s and 60’s music. Because it was a part of that decade and it never progressed. They just made new genres. The only genres that progressed any were Rock and Country. But even those didn’t change and venture as far as Rap did. Rap is by far the most open minded, creative, talented type of music, yet people like to call it vulgar and say they don’t understand anything. It’s ok not to like it but when you bring it down even tho it’s more superior to other genres, like the ones they like, it’s not factual. They don’t have to like it from a personal level, but when they talk about it on a public and general level and say some negative shit about it that isnt even true it gets me frustrated. Cuz they were taught and even just learned to hate it, and ofc there’s the stereotypes that people say. Which also aren’t even true. But that’s just my opinion. It’s not like it’s gonna change anything, but that’s the point I’m trynna get through to you.
