Welcome to another edition of the VT Podcast which I’ve called Ideas That Matter.
In this episode, I talk about Elders.
We owe our greatest wisdom to the elders in our society. They have lived through a lifetime of experiences, and they understand the world better than anyone else.
We look to them for advice on how to navigate life, and we listen to their warnings about dangers that could befall us. Our elders are setting an example of what it means to be a responsible, healthy, and contributing member of society.
What would we do without our elders?
Listen in.

Mr. Thembekwayo, you are touching a nerve - yes, at times 'we Elders' are losing or have lost, even given up our voice.. we have fallen into a "preserve the Peace at all costs" kind of excuse-living, becos we don't want to 'rock the boat' with our younger generation, the more accomplished, more travelled / more 'educated' know it all, do it all, Say It All kids; we too easily 'accept undercooked directives downwards / upwards' ? Yes, It is time to engage our wise & proven brave hearts - and step to the plate..intervene, give guidance again, speaking our truths softly..intrinsically as all good advice is - like soft falling snow: the softer it lands, the deeper it sinks in.. regards and God bless Vusi! yours, Pastor Rovaro - Pretoria / Marabastad boykie..

Hello Vusi, thank you so much for sharing this episode on ELDERS. This is really inspiring and it is sad we are lacking in elders these days and this just inspires me to become an ELDER in my own space. God bless you Vusi.

Our elders did their part by raising us and taking us to school. Most of them unfortunately lost their cultures and adopted the western cultures. As much as we love and respect them, their wisdom is contaminated in a way. I am not saying all elders should be like our fathers Credo Mutwa, Ngila Muendane, Joshua Maponga etc but most of them focused too much on providing for their children and did not spend time gathering enough knowledge for us to consult when wisdom is needed. Some are busy teaching us the wrong ways of getting rich. They have experience but their wisdom is not much on the things that matter

@Vusi Agree with your insights at the beginning to the podcaster. Content creators should focus on sustainable and impact influencing rather than instant gratification from popularity and advertisers. Let your content be your engine for motivation and the good deeds that will come out of it.

Even before I went deeper into this podcast I was like omg I was thinking about this just this morning - I was thinking WHY is it that today's parents are more concerned by being their children's "friend" instead of being the elder?

"Imperfect people trying to do this perfectly." "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled." Mat 5v6. [Akekho olungile ngokuphelele, sonke silambela ukulunga. Sometimes we win and sometimes we appear to have lost yet we've learnt and we hunger and thirst once again.

Unfortunately I lost respect for Vusi the moment he said "Cyril better step the ** up". Pres Ramaphosa is an adult and ELDER and I can never respect anyone who feels comfortable to use such a language toward an adult; public figure or not. It is the little things that says much and that one action eclipsed everything for me from that day. I thus cannot listen to anything moral or social from him. Hopefully it was a mistake such as he has mentioned and has gained wisdom from that. Good business speaker though.
