Either we barely control sin . Because we sin daily but the main thing is to hate that sin ... the thing we are different from other Because we hate sins and it doesn't matter that if we sin we don't have salvation ... but the thing is we hate sin even if we do not knowing .....That's why paul discribe in Romans 7:15-20 15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. 16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. 17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. 18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature.[a] For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do-this I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.

The Apostle Paul says to take your thoughts captive. So yes you can control your thoughts. The devil will put thoughts in your mind, but we must take them and either rebuke them or act on them. Prayer is the only answer. God bless

It’s very interesting that you’re talking about this retirement issue. I never understood this retirement planning so you’re actually planning to do nothing for the rest of your life. It sounds so boring. My husband and I are not planning on this so-called traditional retirement. It sounds ridiculous. We did not plan on selling our house downsizing moving to an extremely disgustingly, hot humid state I know many people who planned and planned for their silly retirements and didn’t quite make it there husband‘s best friend who plan for his big big retirement border mansion in Florida. The guy literally died and Hart had a heart attack driving to the new house with his stuff, lock stock and barrel with him in the car, the White called us and said Mike just had a heart attack and died moving to his retirement home. I just couldn’t believe it that cemented it for me. We will never plan for a silly actual retirement idea. Just seems so ridiculous to me. Isn’t there is saying when you make plans God laughs at you.
