Really looking back now then this is so much better than a lot of the series and soaps that are on now then-which really pale in comparison somehow too. Indeed, you could say that a lot of them are pure drivel really alas too! If Eldorado were still on today-oh well if only too of course-thank you though so then too!

I loved Eldorado and its theme tune. Was really gutted and angry wen it was canned. Yentob is a first class tosser. 10 million viewers towards the end it was becoming huge and really good. Would of been massive by 1995 and maybe still running today. #bringbackeldorado

I say that of course as they now have The One Show on weekdays at 7.00pm really as we know I guess so then too. An Eldorado return would work for a number of reasons, three being: 1) The sunshine set would appeal to British viewers, much more uplifting than the grimness of Albert Square. 2) We're in a recession and need some kind of escape, just like viewers in 1992 did because THEY too were in a recession... daydreaming of living abroad anyone? 3) Los Barcos would still be the setting but after 20 years you could easily replace the entire cast and bring in decent actors. BRING ELDORADO BACK!

The only soap I've ever liked. I joined the 'Save Eldorado Campaign'. It was getting 8 - 9 Million viewers towards the end. Very respectable. If I won a double roll-over I'd probably produce a sequel. Marcus would be back and running a huge Magaluff style nightclub.... :-)

Why did yentob drop this soap. Sure it had it problems but it had a long future. We missed out on something special after a new controller played god. Many actors and actresses have passed who would have made this soap the best. I keep the Eldaarado theme music as my phone ringtone. loved you Eldarado who no"s one day they might come to their senses ans bring you back.

Tony Holland was not given adequate time to create high octane, legendary characters. If he'd been given a few more months to realise his actual vision, we would have had characters on this show on the same par as Den and Angie. Marcus Tandy came close.

Here's an interesting fact, there is a link between the profile pic of Norman Wisdom and Eldorado. William Lucas who played Stanley Webb played a gangster in Up in the world, i think it's called, where Norman is a window cleaner.

Joke was at the end this soap was pulling in 10m viewers which the bbc would give its right arm for now, once they had got rid of the dead wood actors that where in it at the start and got some decent actors in this soap had potential, marcus tandy was a legend.

@garymonc - Exactly; it just needed more time. It had already vastly improved by the time they cancelled it. I bet the BBC were kicking themselves two years later when Phil Redmond had dropped a plane on Beckindale and turned 'Emmerdale' into a genuine player. They could easily have built on those 8 million viewers.

I'm well aware of when the plane crash was, thanks. Emmerdale was at risk of being axed before that storyline - it wasn't suddenly a huge hit overnight. The point I'm making is that, following the impact of that storyline, its audience figures grew and it became a genuine ratings hit.

A damaged show that was never aloud to change, casting errors and original script malnipulation has taught the BBC a very valuable lesson, this would never happen again.
