It's a fantastic game, i have played both arkham horror and elder sign, but this one is by far the best of the lot. It's game mechanics are more straightforward and simpler than in AH (not sacrfificing the depth of the game) and not so random as in ES. Awfully difficult tho... but that's part of the appeal for HPL fans i think :)

I have a couple of question about the game, hope you could answer me them 1) when I buy items by throwing successes of influence, can I buy two item? for example, I have 3 successes and one item cost 1 and second 2. 2) Can I fight monster and close portal if they both on the same position? 3) when I win the monster, do I get something? 4) if i get an illness like "dark pack" by methose cards, and the illness is activated by the symbol on the mythos card, will is the illness is activated at the same turn?
@glowingturtle96736 жыл бұрын
1) Yes, you can buy multiple assets. 2)Yes, you have to first fight the monster and then, if you survive, you interact with the space (draw a portal card if there is a portal, or draw a location card) 3)There is no reward for killing a monster but you do stay alive, so that is something. :) 4)If you activate any Reckoning effect it takes immediate effect. Remember to resolve Reckoning effects in their proper order (monsters, conditions.. etc). Take a look at the back of the rulebook for which order to resolve them in. I actually do a play through of this game on my channel if you would like more clarification. Hope that helps!
@davidkyo19856 жыл бұрын
@@glowingturtle9673 Bit late to the party, but: 2) You only get to resolve the non-combat encounter after fighting IF you actually defeat all the monsters occupying the given space (unless you have a spell or item to bypass them in the first place). I also made this mistake initially and wrongfully believed the game to be easy-pants.

The game looks great with beautiful art and standing somewhere between Arkham Horror and Elder Sign when it comes to complexity and length.
@red.erased11 жыл бұрын
This just looks like Arkham Horror to me in terms of Complexity and Length. The only thing I see them dumbing down is removing the Character stat sliders, and condensing location decks together more, due to fewer main locations on this map. Doesn't mean there'll be any less encounters, or battles, or gate jumping. Just my thoughts. But I agree, looks soo beautiful, I sold my mega AH collection so it will be nice to start over with this series.
@Geppetto1911 жыл бұрын
Redgurr I can see why it looks the same in complexity, but consider my experience last week at BGG.Con. I had read the rules through once prior to playing. We had five players in our game, none of whom had any experience with this new game (one hadn't even played Arkham Horror). We were able to play the entire game in just over two hours. That included a bit of time at the beginning with me explaining it. And almost more importantly, none of the players seemed confused in the least as to how to play after the first 20 minutes. It is just more approachable to new players than Arkham (my favorite game).
@red.erased11 жыл бұрын
Adam Jeppson Yeah, I get what you're trying to say, but I'd attribute some peoples learning curve for Arkham Horror to the horribly made rules book. That thing is one of the worst I've seen. My first game of Arkham was just shy of 2 hours, Everyone has different experiences with every game. Some of my friends instantly clicked with Arkham and had less than 2 hour games, some of them never did learn it thoroughly even after several games, and those games would usually drag out to 3-4 hours. I hope this game comes out with some nice expansions soon. Base game alone wouldn't hold my interest for too long after seeing all the components today. Not after playing with 5+ expansion Arkham hehe.
@Geppetto1911 жыл бұрын
Fair enough. We've played a couple games at home now with just my wife and me (both veterans of Arkham), and it just seems to play faster. And, yes, expansions are already needed badly. We've already started to see some encounters more than once. The Mythos cards are the worst offenders though. We saw probably a half-dozen in both games.

The broom closet horror is the best horror!
@AstraIVagabond9 жыл бұрын
+zevroSC2 "Stanley was instructed very clearly by the Narrator earlier, in his infinite wisdom, to walk straight down to the end of the corridor. But, unfortunately, Stanley disobeyed the Narrator and opened the door to the broom closet instead. Then, an ungodly mass of tentacles emanating insanity, born of an ancient evil too grand and terrifying for the mortal mind to truly imagine without reducing its host to a babbling lunatic, burst from inside the broom closet, wrapped around Stanley and devoured him by throwing him into a gaping maw, through a tunnel whose walls were lined with innumerable rows of teeth like scimitars, into another dimension where naught existed but pain and madness, populated only by shambling half-corpses that Stanley knew instantly upon seeing was what he had been doomed to become as soon as he had entered this grim plane. That should teach Stanley a lesson about disobeying the guidance of the Narrator! You should know, Stanley, that this is exactly why you never got that promotion you were hoping for. Such juvenile impudence."

@Josh Dracoian Nope, it's a reimplementation of a boardgame first released in 1987, way before Call of Cthulhu LCG (which, by the way, was a reimplementation of another CCG called Mythos from 1996), although also based on the very same Call of Cthulhu TRPG. By today, there are so many different products in the franchise that I wouldn't even dare to guess...

this game is so unbalanced and overpowered it's not even funny.. i'm faced with 4 gates and like 9 monsters (half of them spawning other monsters every other card) on the board by turn 5 every time... and nothing i can do about it because every monster has 3 health and -3 strength qualifiers. so i'm stuck rolling one die..which comes up a 1 or 2 every time. and this is coming from the guy who couldnt roll a 5 or 6 if he rolled 10 dice at a time.
