This channel is now my favorite Warhammer 40k lore channel. The quality of the content combined with the consistent and reliable upload schedule is second to none. I hadn’t heard of most of what was discussed in this video. I had heard the terms “Halo stars” and “Ghoul stars” before but was unaware of what existed therein. I find the “halo devices” to be particularly intriguing.

Lot of people seem to forget: Of all the Stars in our Galaxy, only a tiny fraction of them are navigable via the warp. All those gaps between human civilizations are filled with things that man has never seen.

I know there happens to be a over satuation of fake Abominable Intelligences creating fake 40k lore as of late has led to a burnout of the setting. This is what us old-school fans never wanted. Mainstream 40k ..... First of all 40k is really a tabletop game. Only recently they have spead out in garbage. 40k is not ment for everyone nor is it ment to be family friendly also. I mean look at the preamble. In the far future there is only war. Forget reasoning and enlightenment. Now we have female costodies. I mean how is that even possible. So, due to a very long period of not being able to play 40k, lore for it became my primary interaction, and one of my favorite avenues there was the Fantasy Flight Games 40k gaming lines; particularly Rogue Trader. I love that they are basically still just mortals, without umpteen augmentations, but they get all the good stuff, and we can see where unfettered human ambition might go. As a big fan, I'm also very fond of the Koronus Expanse, and the nearby halo stars. I think one of the reasons is, as the video said, it's warp stuff, but it's not Chaos. It isn't all conveniently Tzeentch's plan, or a bloodbath of Khorne, and I really like that. There's a fair balance of alien menace, which 40k often fumbles, and out there mystery, which is mysterious even to the aliens there, but it can also be "relaxed" enough to allow humans to get up to all their worst things, even without anyone else to do such to. Thank you for covering it in a video! Also an intriguing idea for what the Halo Devices may be for. My Rogue Trader will still elect to skip that experience, but it sounds cool...and terrifying. 😊

I've known about Warhammer since it first appeared in the US, but I never really took much notice of it. The past couple of years have seen me take a keen interest in the IP, from games to books, to any lore I can get my hands on. I even created my mighty T'au Grand Army of the Greater Good (GAGG for short 😏) recently to finally take the plunge into the table top game, and have the missus shake her head in woe and shame as I spend a fortune on little blue aliens and their Gundam battlesuits 😅 And almost all of this credit goes to you and your channel, coupled with Lutein, Arbitor Ian, and a few others. You've given me something to focus on and look forward to in what is a very trying and difficult time or my life, where I am surrounded by nothing except doubt, uncertainty, hardship, sorrow, and my own personal "Grimdark" existence....but I can watch your videos about another depressing and "Grimdark" reality and be distracted by it for a time, and that time however large or small is important to me for time won't be a commodity I can count on for too much longer. But for now, I can revel in the absurdity that is the Imperium of Man and have some moments of peace as you explain the far future of the 41st Millennium to me... Gratias Tibi Centuriones.... Danke

The entirety of halo stars is my most favourite part of WH40k. I would love in GW expanded a little into the veiled region. Opening it up all at once, by for example huge warp storm in the area that would blow away the nebula. Maybe now with Fulgrim's return, and him carrying the final crone sword, the story of Ynnead could progress, he would actually be born, fought Slaanesh, outcome i dont dare to predict, but the conflict itself could be enough to create events like eye of terror or cicatrix maledictum, blowing away and dispersing the nebula, uncloaking the veiled region. Then i would opt for the storm to either cease and vanish, leaving the area fully open, or just diminish in size, creating a barrier, a gateway, to the veiled region, partly protecting rest of galaxy from it (and vice versa), but not impossible to traverse through.

Maybe that's what happened to one of the missing Primarchs 🤔 The two lost Legions were thought to have been compromised during the Rangdan Xenocides, and Rangda (the planet) is located in the Halo Stars.

Beautiful simple name - Umbra - The deepest darkest part of a shadow/darkness. My theory - They are us. Literally the collective despotiry shadow of sentient and sapient lifeforms. The Chaos factions reporesent Death Anxieties, Passions, Conquest and Manipulation. The Umbra on the other hand are a reminder of unresolved resentments due to cultural repression and oppression. They are the echo and bridge of both the materium and immaterium that haunts the source of their creation.

GorkaMorka (aka Angelis) is also in the Halo Stars, just west of the Ghoul Stars. With all the warp nuttiness in that area it makes sense no Ork Waaagh has discovered it, despite the fact that there are many Ork Empires nearby. It's possible that the Waaagh power is getting reflected like the Astropaths of the Imperium, which could be causing the exacerbation of normal Orky Values (such as Gork? Or Mork?), and the civil war between the Orks. It may be whats stunting the rise of Warbosses on GorkaMorka, and why the Meks are in charge. (Also, love the use of the Karuva System image. Fond memories of Soulstorm. Love playing the Orks campaign and rushing the Blood Ravens and Sisters for the full Drop Army and Bases package.)

Thank you. They are called Fra'al, a nomadic xenos race with pirate like tendencies, usually spotted in Gothic sector but they are all around the galaxy too. There is a belief they have their own Empire because of the advanced tech they possess.

The description of the possible purpose behind the Halo Star Devices fits the symptoms, but I'm not sure that's what they're for. Practically nothing else in the galaxy works as originally intended - almost everything is repurposed from one lost golden age or another, or is running on some variety of "safe mode" - so why would some random xenos species' leftover contingency plan be so lucky? That's not to say I have any idea what the devices' creators meant for them to do; just that if they're working as intended, that's pretty rare in the grim darkness of the far future.

my personal head cannon on halo devices is they're all part of a larger machine. The goal of which is to create necrodermis and transfer the hosts mind into it. This means a couple of things; They're using an incomplete device - so errors are bound to occur Without assembling all of the devices back into the original machine, we will never see what it's truly capable of. and most importantly of all... The necrons did it.

Honestly, I just do a proper investigation on topic, look for books with mentions, offline and online, I scout forums, reddit, i search on russian forums because they many times have things that others dont, I look all over the place, I cross reference Lexicanum and w40k wiki if there are no other sources, old white dwarf magazines, everything. I even have old archive of books where I have around 500+ books as pdfs where I can go for answers. And of course I magination. The secret sauce is hust hard work and consistency, and a need to explore.

The Halo devices are no real mystery, judging by where they are discovered and what they do to those they bond to they sound not really like traps at all. They are basically extremely sophisticated survival pods, they encode the genetics and possibly even memories of a long dead individual of an ancient xenos race, and when you put them on, that individual then starts merging with and taking you over. From anecdotal evidence it may not even have been intended as a malicious transformation at all, since it basically seems to blend the two consciousnesses into a new entity. These things are life pods built by some xenos facing extinction, and seeing as they absolutely refuse to bond to anyone tainted by the warp, we can guess that their enemy were probably some warp-using or warp-dwelling thing, possibly the Enslavers?
