pre-premiere theory about this song: it's about the proposed nanotechnological scenario with the same name as the song (and game!). gray goo is basically proposed to eat and destroy the entire world after something happens. in this song's case, ellie and dex fucking around a bit too hard (/j). this may be inaccurate, but it's what I think. Will expand on this after getting home and listening to the song (I'm probably gonna miss the premiere I am in a dairy queen at the time of writing of this). most of this is inferences from the name and art post-premiere update: I WAS RIGHT. WHAT THE FUCK.

Wanna know the best part about grey goo? Once it starts it can’t be stopped. You can try, but by the time it’s detectable it’s already reached an exponential level of expansion. It’s glorious and terrible grey would consume so fast that even a nuclear attack would be negligible. Once the earth is destroyed it would likely go for other planets, and eventually begin harnessing the energy of the sun. It could build a solar engine and in billions of years reach another star system. The cycle would repeat until heat death. Something truly unkillable.
